I don’t know what I’m doing but I’m here now…
- Comment on I miss console ads being this weird 5 days ago:
There were some bizarre ads from around the late 90s to early 00s.
The Dreamcast Barber comes to mind.
- Comment on [Meta] Did we drop the "what are you playing" monthly thread? Also, mods haven't been active for a while, should someone take over? 1 week ago:
To me it feels like a big drop in activity on Lemmy over the past 6 months? So the weekly and monthly post are being forgotten and some are letting standards slip.
The HDD in my Xbox One S was starting to die so I decided to swap it for an SSD. Surprisingly easy to do with just a torx screwdriver and a spudger. So now I’m starting Red Dead Redemption again as I got so close to completion but didn’t quite finish the story.
- Comment on Patient gamers, what are your favourite city builders? 1 month ago:
- Ostriv
- Banished
- Surving the Aftermath
- Frostpunk
- Planetbase
Smaller scale than Cities Skylines and also have other gameplay mechanics but that’s how I like it.
- Comment on Patient gamers, what are your favourite city builders? 1 month ago:
I’m the same way with games that just get overwhelming and I loose interest.
Ostriv is another game like Banished where it is smaller scale so you might like that too.
- Comment on Is anyone still playing Command and Conquer Generals (+ Zero Hour)? 1 month ago:
I played it lots back in the day. I was watching a random Twitch stream last night for C&C Generals multiplayer. 5 player skirmish was just an absolute frenzy.
- Comment on What's your favourite era for video games? 1 month ago:
It’s still there but with family instead friends now. My kids won’t get the same experience though which is sad.
- Comment on What's your favourite era for video games? 1 month ago:
Probably the period of '95 thought to '05. Mostly because they were the days of local multiplayer with friends and also the jump in technology made things even more interesting.
Combined we had all the 4 player games on the N64. So Goldeneye, SSB, F-Zero, Mario Kart, Snowboard Kids, DK Racing, Perfect Dark, WCW vs NWO and more.
- Comment on The PlayStation 2 1 month ago:
I didn’t own a PS2 until about 2006 when I lived with my girlfriend (now wife!) but even then it was replaced with an Xbox 360 the next year.
I’m a Dreamcast and GameCube kid and I do love the PS1 but just haven’t got any nostalgia for PS2.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
You won’t believe what happened next…
No one likes post like these so please give more context next time.
- Comment on Older patient gamers: what is your preferred gaming platform? 2 months ago:
I’m glad you went with that and not on a history lesson…
- Comment on Older patient gamers: what is your preferred gaming platform? 2 months ago:
Probably the Xbox SS because of the quick-resume feature. Sometimes I just want to play for 15 minutes in-between other stuff so skipping the loading time is great.
- Comment on The Sega Dreamcast 2 months ago:
I think the 3 main reasons why are lack of DVD player, lack of 3rd party support and then the player base losing confidence because of the Saturn.
DCJY podcast Ep.100 is great for this and has an interview with Peter Moore that gives some details.
- Comment on The Sega Dreamcast 2 months ago:
It wasn’t really an issue while the console was still alive though, at least not until very near the end at least. It would have became a massive issue if the console continued though.
- Comment on SteamWorld Heist 2 - Official Reveal Trailer 2 months ago:
SWH is excellent so the same and more please.
- Comment on Games that still need more patience: what games released a year ago (or older) are you waiting for a sale on? Or that need another patch? 2 months ago:
Highfleet
It’s been on sale a few times but not more than maybe 30% so I’ll keep waiting.
Also I’m waiting impatiently for EA WRC to come to gamepass!
- Comment on Just a few attention-grabbing retro game ads that would land studios in hot water today. (more in post body) 2 months ago:
Some good nostalgia and my god they wouldn’t dare see the light of day anymore.
- Comment on How to revitalize this sub? 2 months ago:
I’d agree and I think especially the amount of comments per post has reduced.
- Comment on How to revitalize this sub? 2 months ago:
The monthly recommendation thread is from 3 months ago so doing that regularly is a start. It at least shows the community is active if it gets updated on time.
- Comment on SEGA SATURN, SHIRO! retro gaming blog 2 months ago:
There was a crossover podcast recently with DCJY and SSS! that was very good. Also I’ve never actually played on a Saturn before but I’m starting to gain interest.
- Comment on Has anybody played music on their disc-based systems? 2 months ago:
I often used the original Playstation and then my Dreamcast for CDs but not in a long long time.
- Comment on More ways to play your GOG games with Amazon Luna 3 months ago:
buying games on GOG (directly on our service or via Luna) will give you the best of both worlds – enjoying them on Luna’s cloud gaming service, as well as via offline installers or GOG GALAXY.
This sounds pretty good but not really something I would use GOG for unless it is included in Amazon Prime.
- Comment on What are the best indie games you've ever played? 3 months ago:
Citizen Sleeper, one the the best games, not just indie.
- Comment on Favourite developers 3 months ago:
Developers change so much that it is hard to have a favourite anymore.
SCS are doing a great job with ETS2 and ATS, supporting the game and releasing/updating DLC regulary. It feels like a true passion project for them.
Most of favourites are small indie developers and games like Live For Speed, Software Inc, Ostriv.
- Comment on Starbreeze removes CEO following Payday 3's poor performance 3 months ago:
Payday 3’s concurrent player count is 287 on Steam
Yep, that’ll do it… Those are absolutely awful numbers.
- Comment on Something about The Finals 3 months ago:
If you want a game that runs poorly then check out Squad…
Something definitely seems off about the 2070 if it is struggling at 1080p so don’t give up yet. You might still get to play if you diagnose what’s wrong.
- Comment on Physical or Digital? 3 months ago:
I don’t really have a strict on or the other preference anymore.
Nintendo 1st party stuff I always buy physical, Dreamcast I collect for so that’s physical too but for Xbox I buy mostly digital when on sale. I guess for Xbox its different because I have Gamepass (the £1 upgrade deal they used to offer, still 18 months remaining, but I won’t renew) so I haven’t bought a new game in like 2 years now. The there is PC… My games are all over the place!
Plus with a family we just dont have the space to keep everything forever that we buy anymore.
- Comment on EU says it’s investigating why Apple terminated Epic’s developer account 3 months ago:
I don’t like either company (but in this case I do suffer with Epic) but I do like all the drama they bring.
- Comment on Looking for emotional game recommendations 3 months ago:
It took me a couple tries with DS too. The first few chapters don’t do it justice but once you get past that it’s just amazing.
- Comment on Looking for emotional game recommendations 3 months ago:
Death Stranding had me all over the place. Also the first episode of Telltales The Walking Dead*.
Basically anything with kids can set me off and I find somewhat difficult nowadays as I have children of my own.
- Comment on What are some good games with *zero* replayability? 3 months ago:
It’s quite an open question. Most games I play are “one and done” even though I think most people go back to them. Even with replayability it doesn’t mean that you have to and I’m happy to leave things be once the story is over.
Mafia trilogy sticks to the story and will take a decent amount of hours.
Inside is short but fun.
