“All” here vs other social media is much better
It’s more likely that arguments are civil. There are still quite a few venomous arguments but I’ve noticed that it it proportionally less.
On Reddit or Facebook, if you didn’t like a group you left and made your own. If you didn’t like the admins, tough shit. Here, if you don’t like the admins, you can use a different instance.
Likes and dislikes are separate, and are in some cases viewable who submit them. I feel like this keeps people a little more honest.
I like the modlog and transparency. It’s so much easier that when someone complains about unfair mod action, to see if they are in the right or exaggerating.
There is an “end” to Lemmy. There isn’t just infinite content to scroll through.
Dislike
Smaller user base means that niches that Reddit filled just aren’t here.
There is an “end” to Lemmy. There isn’t just infinite content to scroll through.
Neutral
The types of common negative personalities here are different from that of Reddit. Reddit has more misogyny, classism, antinatalists, and obnoxious atheists. (As opposed to the chill atheists.) Lemmy has quite a few people that are pretty shitty to those that are disabled or cannot get out of some situations. If you cannot work towards the greater good without any rest, can’t escape a bad situation, or can’t just extend yourself further, you are trash. There are also more fringe beliefs here. I do like it because of the different perspectives, even if I very strongly disagree. (It makes me think!) Unfortunately we still have the dumbass arguments about generations but you can’t have it all.

I knew a fellow with an over 7" penis when erect. When flaccid, it kind of went… Back in a little, like a belly button. A pubic button if you will.
You’re right not to worry about flaccid size.

I made it out, but the absolute anxiety of always falling back into poverty weighs heavy. I truly don’t think I can do it again.

- Comment on 'Yelling; shouting, intimidation': These men abused their partners. They're now fighting to be better 2 months ago:
Honestly, good for them. I hope this changes abusers for the better. It helps when they go to these voluntarily instead of forced. It’s really great that they acknowledge some people who go to these are going for the wrong reasons. (My ex was forced into a program sort of like this by the court, and learned nothing but more vocabulary to try to turn it around on me. He still thinks he did nothing wrong.)

That is definitely better than it was before.
It would have been far better to just have serviceable dumb TVs with small smart sticks, but I suppose that doesn’t extract enough money for these poor destitute CEOs.

Get some Velcro cable ties or some twist ties or something.
Then you should bundle up each cable and categorize them.
- A/V cables
- USB cables
- Power cords
- Extension cords
- Specialized chargers
- Power bricks
- …and what ever else you might need
Look at your specialized chargers. Do you still own the devices that those use? Discard if no.
Look in each category. If you have a lot of any one cable type, consider paring them down. Get rid of anything damaged. I knew someone that went crazy on Mono price and had hundreds of USB micro cables. They donated all but about 50 and they are still doing ok in that department.
Now for all of your strange cables, it’s a judgement call for you if you want to keep these or not. Does the value they give you (the possibility of needing them again and saving yourself the need to procure a new cable) outweigh the cost of keeping it (the space they take up in your living space or storage, plus the need to have to transport them when you move)? The answer to this is different for everyone. If you have a very small living area, the “cost” of keeping those cables is higher than if you have plenty of space. If you don’t care about technology, that space could have been taken up by something you do care about.
I know it can be a big undertaking, but you got this!

I agree with you on the rest of your points, but where do you see food stamps only apply to the smallest containers of food?
I’m in a red state, and years ago I was on food stamps. I could buy most groceries without a problem with them. I could buy larger containers of pantry staples, as long as I had the available funds.
Are you talking about WIC? It was far more restrictive and honestly nerve-wracking making sure I got the right items that were covered. It didn’t help when the cashier would get snarky with you and act like you were a moron if you chose wrong. (Selecting the cheese was the worst.)
