- Comment on Synology could bring “certified drive” requirements to more NAS devices 5 days ago:
I was thinking of buying a Synology system. I was actually looking at prices this past week.
That being said, I’ve got an old 2019 desktop running Windows that is coming to the end of its support, that I was considering making a Linux machine.
How complex is making a roll-your-own NAS?

- Comment on 6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux? 2 weeks ago:
I’m planning on it.
I tried a rest run on an old laptop I had, and it runs 95% flawlessly. My biggest issue is my new Brother printer that I’m trying to install connected to Wi-Fi. The system sems to know it’s there, but then doesn’t seem to install the drivers. My Android phone prints there just fine.

I found this recipe for Chickpea Masala a few days ago, and it’s fucking delicious. Also, its time and effort is pretty low. I might be able to make it stoned. Not quite as fast and easy as microwaved, but pretty damn close.

Not OP, but what do you do with the leftover potato scoops? Do you save it for eating later?

My local Madison insurance is forming a steering committee and has created an LLC. (I’m a member of the committee.) We will solicit donations, because mostly it has been one guy paying for a small regional instance of about 100 AU.
We think of it like public broadcasting, like PBS. I will be happy to kick in a few dollars per month to pay for it. We have contests, online meetups, and other fun. It’s not just Mastodon, it’s an active regional online community, and it’s worth it.
(I also donate to my Lemmy instance, because it’s worth it too!)

I realize that Mastodon doesn’t track birthdays for security reasons, but it would be nice to have a “special day” that popped up in friends’ news feeds. It’s probably the nicest feature of FB, to get birthday wishes from friends.

PeerTube is also a Fediverse service, and does the longer form videos, like YouTube. It mostly works fine; it just lacks content.

How to the French tell the difference between fried apples and fried potatoes?
Maybe context.

I’m not a fan of that, and Brave has issues with being Chromium-based, like Vivaldi.
