I used to work as an assistant editor for Fox Channel in Argentina many many years ago. And there was this trailer for a star trek movie that had the name on text on the trailer and the scriptwriter wrote “Zulu” instead of Sulu (my knowledge about star trek is limited to memes of today) so I complied and wrote Zulu on the trailer. Nobody else notice and was aired like that. the next day it aired some guy I have never seen on my life entered my island with my producer and the screenwriter and the guy was furious, asking me why I wrote the name wrong and telling me that they had been receiving calls from all latinamerica saying thay we were fucking stupid and had to pull off the trailer from air. I show him the script as it came to me in the email and the screenwriter facepalmed in shame. They asked me to correct the name and re send the traileds asap. After thay I learned thay the guy was like the director of costumers relationship and the poor screenwriter was demoted and transferred to write the trailer is the cooking channel.
Directed by JJ Abrams

JJ Abrams already directed three star trek movies
I mean, I’m not really a fan of them, but it is what it is
FoolishBrainiac@beehaw.org 11 months ago
*directed two Star Trek movies.
Beyond was directed by Justin Lin which is why it was better than the JJ movies
TeenieBopper@lemmy.world 11 months ago
I mean, the first one was a fun popcorn flick. Into Darkness was… Eh, not the worst movie I’ve ever seen. I can’t adequately judge Beyond because it came out about three months after my dad died (who introduced me to Trek and sci-fi in general) and he would have loved the ending.
FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 months ago
My dad was a film historian, and there have been so many discoveries and so much movie news he would have loved to know about since he died. I think about that every time something new in the classic movie world comes up.
negativenull@startrek.website 11 months ago
As well as Star Wars movies
andthenthreemore@startrek.website 11 months ago
Didn’t direct beyond. And it’s by far the best of the Kelvin films.

Yeah, but still, fuck JJ Abrams and his abominations

Must go faster? She can’t take much more of this, Captain. I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

Somehow, Khan has returned
Whayle@kbin.social 11 months ago
Obviously it would be Scotty, not Sulu!
GratefullyGodless@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Sulu’s the one driving the ship, Scotty just hangs out by the engines and whacks them with a wrench occasionally.

Going above warp 10 is definitely not recommended.

CBS giving up their baby? Not until it’s been milked completely dry.

If Disney acquired it, it would be because they bought Paramount.
bleistift2@feddit.de 11 months ago
Disney would never have allowed Kirk to kiss Uhura.
Doug@midwest.social 11 months ago
You mean the Disney that conservative groups got mad at because two women had a split second “kiss” in a movie, or the Disney that made Song of the South?
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 11 months ago
Or the Disney that didn’t let the cops be gay in Gravity Falls, or the Disney that doesn’t let gays in Pixar films, or the Disney that relegated Finn to a minor character for being black

Misters Chekov, fire butt torpedoes.
nxdefiant@startrek.website 11 months ago
Misters Chekov Do you want the Disney-owned, AI generated force ghost of Anton Yelchin to show up? Because THIS FAR AND NO FURTHER.

Misters Chekov Do you want the Disney-owned, AI generated force ghost of Anton Yelchin to show up?
Beverly Crusher would.
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Nah just the regular force ghost

Disney is not in a position to be acquiring large properties right now. Maybe Amazon is interested?
Blackmist@feddit.uk 11 months ago
What, so they can lock it behind the Star Trek Plus channel, just 4.99 a month on top of Amazon Prime.
Now with extra targeted adverts!

This is why I supported a Tarantino Star Trek, to forever tarnish the brand with violence and language so much that Disney would be afraid to add it to their monolithic catalog of IPs
Patches@sh.itjust.works 11 months ago
Don’t lie. You just wanna see T’Pol’s feet.
Cause that’s all that’s guaranteed from a Tarantino flick.
EmergMemeHologram@startrek.website 11 months ago
“Quinton, why is 30% of the film closer up shots of T’Pol rubbing her feet in de-conn?”
jayandp@sh.itjust.works 11 months ago
Modern Disney doesn’t care. They’re releasing Deadpool 3 rated R next year, and Echo in January is TV-MA.
Blackmist@feddit.uk 11 months ago
Disney plus in the UK has that Pam and Tommy show featuring a talking erect penis.
Have fun with that, kiddywinks.
WarmSoda@lemm.ee 11 months ago
Disney has always released r rated movies. They have specific studio brands for that stuff.
VindictiveJudge@startrek.website 11 months ago
They could always bring back Touchstone to compensate.
driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 11 months ago
Disney already owns Pulp Fiction.
FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 months ago
I’m with you, except he wanted to remake Yesterday’s Enterprise, and that would have been a travesty.
