- Comment on Ubisoft Exec Says Gamers Need to Get 'Comfortable' Not Owning Their Games for Subscriptions to Take Off 10 months ago:
My argument against this is that at least I own a license to the game rather than just a subscription. Steam still has and updates games that were made unpurchasable a decade ago. Hell, people still play rocket league on steam.
This is a separate argument altogether. There’s own physically and own a license to. If you own it physically and your physical media corrupts (which happens often to digital discs) did you own it any more than if you had it on steam? It’s also illegal to make a copy of a console disc, btw.
What the article is talking about is not even obtaining a license.
- Comment on Prove it wrong: the fediverse is not as connected as we're told, and it's splintering even more now. 10 months ago:
Personally, I find it no different than how there are multiple websites and multiple forums on the internet. Reddit, stack exchange, other types of forums dedicated to specific topics, etc
You DONT need the “best” source of content, you don’t need to be connected to everyone, you don’t need to have access to all information all the time.

I’ve looked into Code Server, which is a github project I’ve found for self hosting VS Code, but it only works on Linux
Are you saying VS Code itself has a built in self hostable option?

- Comment on Steam will now accept "the vast majority" of games using "AI" generation, but only with disclosures 10 months ago:
No? I just don’t think you actually understand what it means. You’re attaching ideas to something that doesn’t fit the ACTUAL definition.
Being competitive is not the say as being anti competitive, lol.

"Formerly known as GameShark, AI Shark is set to redefine the gaming landscape with its revolutionary AI-enhanced technology,”
Also the date has been “debunked” as “just a guess” by ai shark.

That’s only if you’re using Unreal

You can argue a monopoly only where there are both an active actual monolog and when there are anti competitive practices in place.
Steam doesn’t do anti competitive, their 30% cut is actually a deal when you consider how much you get in comparison to Epic or Gog, who both take 30% but both offer considerably less. Valve doesn’t push for exclusives the way Epic does and valve doesn’t do anything to make you not able to publish to other stores at all.
Their edge is that they offer a better service for the same price.

When they merged with iron source, many of the board from IS carried over. Of course the ad company wants to run the game engine company like an ad company
- Comment on Sonarr not working? 10 months ago:
I went to the queue and nothing was there, only one out of my 15 trackers was down,
I saw somewhere you can make the software look for seasons by navigating to the show and clicking the magnifying glass next to it, and now it’s added a bunch of episodes to the queue.
I’ll have to dig through the log file because now it’s downloading hundreds of episodes so the log got all thicc on me
Anyway to make it prefer whole seasons though? I’ve got 146 torrents running now, lol

They’re eventually going to release SteamOS onto desktop platforms, but for now you can just install Linux.
SteamOS has so many deck and handheld specific features that it’s not really a good OS for desktop hardware. HoloISO is something you can install, though, as long as you don’t have a Nvidia card, which is just SteamOS packaged in a way that let’s it run on other hardware
