- Comment on “This is Not the Time for Balance”: LA Times Columnist Resigns in Protest . . . Over Balanced Commentary 1 week ago:
Litman admitted there is “very little leeway to reject the government’s decisions to dismiss charges” but encouraged Sullivan to “accomplish what Congress, multiple inspectors general, and a majority of the electorate have not been able to do — hold the president and his allies accountable for their contemptuous disregard for the rule of law.”
There has never been any possibility that he would be held accountable. The entire process is placation politics. The populace absolutely needs to feel as if the rules are fair, and as if the powerful can be punished. So the systems have created stalling and diversionary tactics to placate their needs, and keep them eternally waiting for justice. Have you never noticed that he’s always on the verge of facing consequences if we just wait a little longer? Then longer comes and the charges are dropped, or the hearings are postponed, or he was convicted but sentencing is in three weeks, or it’s been three weeks but now there’s an election so we must wait until it’s concluded for impartiality, or well he won, so sentencing is permanently postponed? There will never be meaningful consequences for these people. They will always promise action is just a little down the road, all you need is patience. Meanwhile they continue the exact same egregious and evil activities while the masses wait, permanently crippled by the promise of soon to be consequences. People cannot act out because that would be crazy, since the system will make things right soon… any day now.

This piece of shit plug-in has caused us countless bugs, and hurt our accessibility rating. We were forced by corporate to integrate it into the site, despite already having a AAA accessibility rating, and now we’re constantly fighting against the plug-in to maintain an accessible site. It breaks key features of our site and we have to code against a 3rd party API to get things working again. Pure trash.

I’ve only ever texted people, and always well before midnight. I’ve never called anyone on NYE, and I’m middle aged. Back in the day I was too busy in the moment to think of calling someone, and now a days nobody wants to be called, nor do I want to call.

Stop calling it diversity if you mean minority. Diversity means a variety of people from different backgrounds. So some Indians on a team do count as diversity, as long as the group itself is diverse. Every ethnicity can count towards diversity.

- Comment on Good ear protection for concerts. 5 weeks ago:
You want shooting ear buds. They actually amplify quiet sounds, pass normal sounds through, and muffle sounds above the threshold. But they won’t really work as you want, because the entire concert is above the safe threshold. That means they’ll effectively just be ear plugs during the whole show, so you might as well just get ear plugs for 50¢.
- Comment on Taylor Lorenz Says 'We Want These Executives Dead' Hours After Health Insurance CEO Murdered 1 month ago:
This event seems to have united all people in a way that I haven’t seen since 9/11. There’s nobody in the country who hasn’t been affected by the greedy and evil practices of health insurance companies. Conservatives and liberals alike seem to all be responding with “and nothing of value was lost” type responses.
This is from an article I read earlier today:
“Beyond the shooter’s own motives, it’s clear from the shockingly celebratory reaction online to Thompson’s murder that anger about the American insurance and healthcare system has reached the point of literal bloodlust.”
People are fed up, and millions have been pushed to a breaking point
- Comment on California bill would give public university admission priority to slaves' descendants 1 month ago:
Last time they worded reparations to exclude white appearing people of black ancestry, which is just outright racism IMO. It’s either to make amends for the systemic oppression of your ancestors, which resulted in you personally having a harder time in life, or its not. California made it clear with that distinction that it’s not.

Way of Kings is the best book in the series, so if you didn’t like that, then you won’t like the series.
Jordan tended to ramble (especially about women’s clothing), but I wouldn’t say he was a worse writer. Some of his writing was exceptional. It started tapering off near the end because he was dying. Book 11 especially is a hard slog. But when he was healthy he had some great writing.
Sanderson is a great writer too, but he uses a different pacing style, which is more modern. So his writing will click more with people today. I really loved how it picked the pace back up with WoT after the slog, brought it all together, and finished the epic story. Jordan had extensive notes, and he and Sanderson worked together to ensure the story was finished. I really love that Sanderson respected Jordan’s work, and finished it as Jordan would have instead of trying to make it his own thing.
I love both authors, and have read all of WoT and everything Sanderson has written. If you want to give an original Sanderson book a try, start with Mistborn. That book is very good, and isn’t a 1000 page introduction to a 14,000 page saga. It’s short and there are two more books that conclude the trilogy. He wrote more Mistborn books later, but they’re in a whole different era, and weren’t to my liking. The original trilogy is great!
