Gilded Age 2.0 has been their goal since the last one didn’t work out.

They had to begrudgingly push out the New Deal because they knew that a violent socialist revolution where the owners get strung up from their own chandeliers was the probable alternative.
Now they probably think modern security and propaganda will prevent all that, or they’re just ignorant, shortsighted, and greedy, and they haven’t really considered the consequences.

It’s both, and they aren’t wrong.

We never should have accepted the compromise.

It’s the wrong way to reach the right conclusion.
But yeah if you take care of the needs of the people, like housing, social medicine and so forth they will be more productive, will create more children and -as unintended side effect- be happier.
Squeezing people for every penny will make them more prone to revolt, so it’s basic reasoning: of you’re rich and want to remain that way, take care of the people doing the work!

I think this is one of those “you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” types of deals.

But that’s not the goal of the health care system, at least in the US. Pharmaceuticals, hospitals, insurance companies, they are all part of a larger capitalist system that prioritizes profit above all else. It’s a conflict of interest, with the owners of the business on one side and the customers on the other. One guess which of those two gets to make the decisions on how the business runs. So, no, it’s not designed to keep you healthy, it’s designed to make a profit. And if the largest profit comes from making us healthy, then good for us. But either way we don’t get a say.

Money seems to get in the way of everything. We need a new middleman.

Keep workers healthy so they can be worked harder and make bosses more money. This is the point of forcing health upon you. This is why cigarettes, junkfood, and drugs and video games are to be banned.
Wasn’t there mandatory exercise in view of state owned Cameras in 1984? Star jumps for Christ and Capitalism.

I exist to fuck my woman, play with my dog, ride my motorbike and indulge in all the food and drink I desire
Work is merely something that I am forced to do to facilitate that
AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 day ago
Okay except they’re making us all less healthy…soo…

You mean they’re creating jobs in the healthcare sector?

They aren’t lying, we’re cattle to the ultra wealthy or owning class. No different than buying race horses. How much capital can we bring them set off by how much it costs for our upkeep.

Yeah it’s basically like “what do you think of the random African kid that mined cobalt for your phone ?” We’re their African kid, they don’t think about us, they don’t consider us, they couldn’t care less about us. We’re barely ants to these people.

Take a look at the plummeting rate of incarceration in the US over the last decade under Democrat administrations, especially with the legalization of marijuana, and then skyrocketing private prison population rates with the latest ICE campaign under the current administration. Then look at the 14th amendment and prison labor. Who’s donating toward and profiting from the current administrations human and Bill of Rights and violations?
