It could have been, but there weren’t any others growing nearby. This line of fruits runs into the main path so they could have been stomped out.

At this point it’s best to accept how we’re going to be portrayed. There isn’t much we can do to absolve ourselves of their preconceptions. Best to make sure you’re prepared for the worst of it and hope it doesn’t come to that. I for one, refuse to be led by fear. It may not be an Amanita and could be a Hygrocybe. I didn’t dig down to see if there was a universal veil. It does look a lot like Amanita jacksonii.
