- Comment on If I took antidepressants for my Weltschmerz (world-weariness)... would I become a worse artist? 1 day ago:
Absolutely not! I have always found that my creative output has been at its best when I’m at my most mentally healthy.

That would be a great application for it! Okay, I’m swayed in the other direction. For stuff like schools, churches, etc, I can see it making sense. Especially if the machines aren’t hard to maintain.
- Comment on This Autonomous Snow Blower Shovels on its Own, Recharges Itself, and Keeps Going 4 days ago:
Yeah, that’s fair. Snow blowers as a personal purchase have always felt silly to me, since if needed you could always pay for a shovel/plow service that just come when it snows, so you don’t have an expensive appliance sitting around that might barely be used. Now I’m wondering what the cost comparison would look like between the two. I suppose it depends on how much snow you usually get

What was wrong with a $10 shovel?
- Comment on I sometimes worry that most of my posts from lemmy.dbzer0.com have been sorta doomeristic. Does anyone have any good Lemmy communities that would act as palate cleansers? 5 days ago:

- Comment on [US] How are so many people able to protest? (Logistically) 1 week ago:
In the US, you usually only get paid time off if you’re in a full-time, salaried position. Even then, most people only get two or three weeks, and it accrues over time, so you have to save it up for winter holidays, etc
- Comment on How to stay sane in a hostile environment that you can't get out of? 1 week ago:
Find ways to be anywhere but that environment as much as possible. Volunteer for something, join a club or sports team, or just hang out at the library. Being out of that environment will help you clear your mind. Use that time to start making plans to create your own safe place where you can exist independently. It might take time to get there, depending on the resources available to you, but small steps over time add up.

I signed up for a rapid response team training, and I’ve started 3D printing very loud whistles to carry with me and give out

Looks like my 2nd great grandfather was born in Hawkesbury, Ontario in 1881! I think that means I qualify!

Thank you!
- Comment on If you have ANY Canadian ancestor, you are likely a Canadian citizen as a result of recent changes in Canadian law 5 weeks ago:
So, if I understand this correctly, if I can prove that one of my ancestors was a Canadian citizen, then all their descendants have automatically been made Canadian citizens, including me?
- Comment on If you have ANY Canadian ancestor, you are likely a Canadian citizen as a result of recent changes in Canadian law 5 weeks ago:
Holy shit, I might be a Canadian citizen!
My genealogy might finally pay off! I have a lot of French Canadians back in my family tree. Now to track down the documents to prove it

Fucking awesome. Just erasing trans people from public existence for refusing to be treated like equals. What a garbage country and state
- Comment on Does each country have a book/library of the laws of the land that a commoner can consult to check if they're about to do something illegal? 1 month ago:
Oh yeah, definitely! Even in legal states, if you’re on federal property (like National Forests), possession is still a crime. Gotta be careful with stuff like that
I meant that they aren’t arguing over it as in the DOJ isn’t suing states over having legalized it. Although if I recall correctly, the Obama admin DEA did conduct raids on medicinal dispensaries in states where it was legal
It gets weird and messy fast
- Comment on Does each country have a book/library of the laws of the land that a commoner can consult to check if they're about to do something illegal? 1 month ago:
Yep. But when two laws are in conflict, the higher law wins. So state laws supersede local laws, and federal laws beat state laws. Of course, there is also weirdness where the higher body might just choose not to argue with the lower body over conflicting laws, like with cannabis legalization.
