Oh yeah, I didn’t post this to imply it’s a good thing, just relevant to the discussion of clean energy

Residents don’t want them, but tech companies definitely do.

- Comment on Theoretically speaking, if one wanted to sail the seas while being not very tech savvy – is using a VPN (Mullvad) enough? I would never, of course… but theoretically? 6 days ago:
Yep, binding Mullvad as the network interface should do it!

Fr. I’m just as worried about AI and automation as anyone, but it’s amazing how fast people were to come up with a slur for robots. I don’t think it’s a good impulse

- Comment on Gen Z males twice as likely as baby boomers to believe wives should obey husbands 2 weeks ago:
Feminist is such a loaded term too, after decades of vilification by right wing media. My mother would happily say “oh yes, of course I support equal rights for women, but I don’t think I’d call myself a feminist.” (Now, whether what she believes is equal rights is actually equal rights is a different question.)
- Comment on "Ok, Millenial..." 🙄 3 weeks ago:
There is a strong overlap between furries and IT professionals. I’d go so far as to argue that the presence of furries in an online community is a sign that it’s a healthy one.
- Comment on You ever wake up and question, "am i the bad guy"? 3 weeks ago:
I constantly feel as though I’m a bad person. It’s my Catholic upbringing haunting me, mixed with my anxiety. I try to remind myself that I’m not awful as I think I am.

- Comment on What are we being distracted from? 5 weeks ago:
Everything is a distraction from everything else. I doubt any specific catastrophe is planned, particularly as a distraction, but the cumulative effect is deliberate. The faster they go and the more chaotic everything gets, the harder it is to stay focused to stop them. See Bannon’s “muzzle velocity” theory

- Comment on If I took antidepressants for my Weltschmerz (world-weariness)... would I become a worse artist? 1 month ago:
Absolutely not! I have always found that my creative output has been at its best when I’m at my most mentally healthy.

That would be a great application for it! Okay, I’m swayed in the other direction. For stuff like schools, churches, etc, I can see it making sense. Especially if the machines aren’t hard to maintain.
- Comment on This Autonomous Snow Blower Shovels on its Own, Recharges Itself, and Keeps Going 1 month ago:
Yeah, that’s fair. Snow blowers as a personal purchase have always felt silly to me, since if needed you could always pay for a shovel/plow service that just come when it snows, so you don’t have an expensive appliance sitting around that might barely be used. Now I’m wondering what the cost comparison would look like between the two. I suppose it depends on how much snow you usually get

What was wrong with a $10 shovel?
- Comment on I sometimes worry that most of my posts from lemmy.dbzer0.com have been sorta doomeristic. Does anyone have any good Lemmy communities that would act as palate cleansers? 1 month ago:

- Comment on [US] How are so many people able to protest? (Logistically) 1 month ago:
In the US, you usually only get paid time off if you’re in a full-time, salaried position. Even then, most people only get two or three weeks, and it accrues over time, so you have to save it up for winter holidays, etc
- Comment on How to stay sane in a hostile environment that you can't get out of? 1 month ago:
Find ways to be anywhere but that environment as much as possible. Volunteer for something, join a club or sports team, or just hang out at the library. Being out of that environment will help you clear your mind. Use that time to start making plans to create your own safe place where you can exist independently. It might take time to get there, depending on the resources available to you, but small steps over time add up.
