A beard is like makeup for men. If done correctly, your short, neatly trimmed beard can highlight and strengthen your jawline and provide a contrast to emphasize hollow cheeks/cheek bones.
moonluna@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I didn’t know there was a beard shop for men to buy different shades and types of beards. I’ll have to tell all my guy friends, they’lllove this
bizarroland@lemmy.world 1 day ago
There is a trick.
If you’re a guy and you have a scraggly beard, and you really want it to fill out, and it’s gonna sound fucking crazy, but Rogaine.
Over the counter Rogaine, monoxidil shampoo.
Wash the area that you want to have a beard with it and in many cases your beard will grow in.
The good thing about that is, is that once your beard grows in, it will stay grown in.
Of course, be careful with it.
1: I’m just some person on the internet relaying information that other people have relayed to me. I have not done this myself, so take everything I’m saying with a grain of salt
2: You don’t want to start growing hair in places that you don’t want to start growing hair in, and Rogaine, Minoxidil, will increase the amount of hair that your body grows wherever it lands over a long enough time period, so be careful where you wash your body with the Rogaine.
A further caveat is that the area must have hair to begin with. It will not make your palms grow hair because you do not have hair follicles there, and it won’t work for everyone because all it does is prevent DHT from attacking the hair follicles, but that can be the space that those hair follicles need to get stronger and to start growing in a thicker beard.

Makeup. Guys can, and do, wear makeup too.
bizarroland@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Back when Zoom trials were a huge thing some of the law firms I worked with had the lawyers put on makeup because better looking people do better in court and it worked.
I saw a couple of firms have record settlements and judgments in their favor, in part because they were the better dressed, better looking, more well put together, side.
I’m sure the confidence boost of looking their best while being in a high stakes trial also helped.

Because the straights are too scared that it could make them gay. Homochondriacs.
solrize@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
It’s just called makeup. Almost all public “faces” such as actors and politicians wear it. There’s actually an Oscar category for best makeup and hairstyle or something like that. An extreme example, Mr. Spock’s makeup on the original Star Trek took something like 2 hours to put on each day. Leonard Nimoy wrote about it in his autobiography “I am Spock”.

Makeup. But less obviously

No way I’m putting makeup on as a male
Ziggurat@jlai.lu 1 day ago
Man tend to be more rationale than woman and wear make-up when needed, so basically when they are on a stage, facing a camera, or at events like larp/concert.
But it’s way more common than you think in every day life

makeup
Bubberpillar@lemmy.ca 1 day ago
The answer is a personal hygiene, a fit physique, and a beard!!
Personal hygiene = no greasy hair, no B.O., no bad breath. Keep your haircut maintained.
For physique, no you don’t have to be gym bro built but just don’t look like I can push you over😆 Ladies are more forgiving towards a belly as long as you have nice arms and broad shoulders. Us ladies love that lol.
Beards help immensely on guys who don’t have much of a jawline. Hides a potential double chin too.
Also important is knowing how to dress. You can put a little thought into something even as simple as a shirt and jeans. Like make sure your clothes are clean, aren’t wrinkly, and fit properly (pls don’t wear that shirt that you overgrew xD). Watches and collared shirts or sweaters instantly look more put together. If it’s a buttoned shirt, the fabric but most importantly length will tell you whether to tuck or untuck. Idk I’m not an expert on guy’s clothes. Just find some inspo or watch youtube/IG.

Cologne, worn moderately.
Smelling good is a huge part of being attractive. You can legit make heads turn by wearing a scent that doesn’t reek, doesn’t smell like everyone else, and compliments your own body oils and smells.
PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world 1 day ago
How does one “find their scent”? Just the thought of going to the perfume aisle makes me nauseous… And I can’t tell one from the other anyway.
shalafi@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Having an SO to rate the smell helps, but different people like different smells. No one-size-fits-all answer.

Just be clean. Fuck collective ideas on beauty.
overload@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
Ironically I think keeping a clean living space and bring kempt is a pretty big attractive quality, so this is a great answer.

Make up should disappear, and more emphasis should be applied in medically-sound skin care. Your skin should be healthy enough that you don’t need to cover it with paint.
I get that using colors is fun, but makeup as it is today is way beyond reasonable, it’s not only about painting your skin, it’s about insecurity.
Painted hair is cool though.

And also makeup.

Clothing is the easiest answer. I’m continually stunned by guys saying nice clothes are uncomfortable, expensive, too much hassle, whatever. Just went to the fair tonight with my wife and friends. I looked about as good as I can outside of a tux. (And a tux, minus the cufflinks and such, is a whopping $110 on Amazon.)
Not tonight’s outfit, but the vest is a woman’s from the thrift, $2. The shirt in that pic is also a woman’s, $3 at the thrift. I’m not wearing $25 in clothes there, including the watch, shoes and other jewelry.
Clothes are stupid cheap. Keep experimenting, see what looks good on you. BTW, there is no permanent you style. I’ve changed many times over the years.
One more easy tip is tooth whitening. My dentist made me a mold for $70, you can roll your own whitener with H2O2 and baking soda. 20-minutes a month and your teeth will pop.

Tattoos, yes. Sunglasses, yes. Regular glasses, yes. Seconding what another commenter said about just being clean and well-kempt.

You might just have the wrong shape of glasses. I thought for years I had the right shape of glasses on my face, but as it turns out a different shape looked way better.
