- Comment on Profit slide at Target hints at meager holiday season for the retailer 1 day ago:
Fuck Target. I don’t even know how it’s still considered the “luxury Walmart”. Their stores are filthy and understaffed. The aisles are blocked by huge bins of online orders. It’s been a miserable shopping experience since COVID, at least.
- Comment on 'Grandma doesn't need slippers': Fox News slammed over Christmas money-saving tip 2 days ago:
The actual quote is a lot more tame than “fuck grandma”.
“Budget, budget, budget,” Warshaw said. “You need a plan. Also, remember, adults don’t need gifts, OK.
“Focus on the people in your life who are aged three to 18. Grandma doesn’t need slippers. If they don’t live by you, don’t get them a gift. Now’s not the time to spend and break the bank sending packages across the country.”
I agree with all this. Even more, I’d add to focus on smaller, handmade gifts for kids. Fuck the American consumeristic holiday mindset. I’ve not given a single gift more than $20 since I was a teenager and I don’t think I’ve received one (certainly not asked for one) in that same time. It’s dumb, wasteful, guilting, is only perpetuated to make profit for the corporations, and no, Grandma probably doesn’t actually need slippers.
- Comment on Nearly a quarter of U.S. households live paycheck to paycheck, report finds 2 days ago:
I agree. Even “lazy” home cooking (frozen meals, Ramen, frozen pizza) is always cheaper than restaraunts.
One of the best things I ever did for myself, IMO, was making a budgeting spreadsheet. Except for a basic =SUM() tile showing how much I’ve earned minus what I’ve spent, it’s all manual, nothing is automatically filled in and I have to really reflec and be honest to myself about every purchase I make. Everything gets logged. I don’t know how much I was spending/earning before the spreadsheet (obviously) but I just know that I’m budgeting smarter with one.
- Comment on Nearly a quarter of U.S. households live paycheck to paycheck, report finds 2 days ago:
This is a big reason why me and my partner dramatically downsized our apartment and went from spending ~40% of my monthly income on rent in a downtown townhouse to literally the cheapest place we could find, which is a 2br with about a third of the square footage and is unofficially dorms for the college four minutes down the road. Most people ask what we’re studying when we give them our address even though we both graduated years ago. Rent is now less than 10% of my income. It took months of literally spamming the leasing office to get this place and in the end the only thing that worked was finding out one of my partner’s friends had another friend who lived here and was moving back home so we were able to take over the lease at the 11th month and renew it in our name.
Not saying this as advice to anyone, I understand we were pretty fortunate. I’m just saying this to tell you that living paycheck to paycheck fucking sucks. It sucks big ass fucking balls and at this point we’re just squirreling away as much money as we can and waiting for better days. We’re not giving any more money to any parasitic landlords than we have to.

Went out for drinks the other day. Asked the bartender for a rum and coke.
She asked if Pepsi is okay.
I said “Sure.”
Imagine the look on my face when this blonde bottle jockey pours Pepsi and Coke in a glass and hands it over to me.
- Comment on Trump scraps tariffs on beef, coffee and tropical fruit in a push to lower grocery store prices 5 days ago:
This is the case for most of US exports. There’s a unique situation where we have the infrastructure/capital to produce some actually good stuff, but at the same time American consumers have no standards. The good stuff gets sent abroad to discerning markets and we import cheap slop to sell here
- Comment on Trump scraps tariffs on beef, coffee and tropical fruit in a push to lower grocery store prices 5 days ago:
Increase grocery supplier profits*
because so many people are buckling down and spending less at the grocery stores. Their support is more valuable than his tithe right now, as he’s polling historically low among almost every demographic on almost every issue. These “savings” (read: tax cuts, tariffs are taxes never forget it and the taxes were pushed exclusively by Trump and have never been popular even among the most hardcore MAGAs) will never be passed on to the consumer. Consumer prices aint going down, but Trump’s taking less of a cut of the profits for now to keep his crony friends from turning on him.
- Comment on How bad is it really to listen to music with headphones? My mom told me if I keep doing that I'd go deaf... Is that fearmongering? 5 days ago:
Listen to this guy OP. Don’t be like me and give yourself tinnitus by your early 20s listening to Nine Inch Nails full volume for hours on end. Aint worth it.
- Comment on Years later, Arkane’s Dishonored is still a modern stealth classic 5 days ago:
I understand what you’re saying (I think) but you know that… you can kill everyone, right? The worst the game does is throw a few more enemies at you (to kill) and some moral characters say mean things to you. Pretty standard RPG mechanics, IMO. It’s just a choice and like I said, the narrative framing sets you up to be a highly-trained stealthy assassin, not some mass-murdering juggernaut. But you can do that if you want
Similarly I could not use the tools the game gives me
Offers* you. There’s even an achievement for completing the game with just a sword and pistol, no upgrades or powers ;) Choices!!

IIRC you still get the low-chaod ending if you only kill the targets. It’s just by going wild and killing everyone that you get high-chaos, and I think this fits in the moral framing of the game.
I do agree with your gripe that D1 gives you a lot of fun ways to kill people and challenges you not to use them, while at the same time giving you very little nonlethal tools. They addressed this well in the sequel IMO, but I did also love the challenge and the temptation knowing that these enemies would be so easy to defeat with a rat swarm but I just shouldn’t. Like I said, keeps with the moral framing about the slippery slope of mindless revenge IMO

Dishonored (1) is my favorite game of all time. I’ve put in so many hours across every console I’ve owned since it came out in 2012. Some of the best DLC story expansions of all time, too. Glad to see it still getting some love and mourning the fact that we’ll never get another game.

PS5 still has no games. It’s an anomonly. Even after 5 years and dozens of games, the console still has no games. Wow. Truly one for the history books. I can see why Sony is already talking about releasing the PS6.

It’s possible and FWIW, that would be a damn fine game to be remembered for. RDR2 was phenomenal and made even better by the fact that online never really caught on so it could just exist as its own thing, unlike GTA V which is also a great game but also inseparable from GTO:O at this point that no one even bothers talking about the great single player of the game
