The new moon and full moon do not comprise the majority of days.

gonna use this as an opportunity to educate:
You can tell the time by what shape the moon is and its position in the sky, e.g. a full moon in the northern hemisphere rises at ~18:00 and is highest in the sky at midnight.
This is why the moon is generally associated with nighttime, the blatantly obvious phase is only above the horizon at night, while the basically invisible phase is only up during the day.

ewigkaiwelo@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Don’t forget it will be visible from the Moon Next Night
Johanno@feddit.org 1 month ago
And day.
Except for the dark side of the moon.
While it isn’t always dark there you won’t see the earth.

It is pretty sick how the sun and moon just happen to seem the same size from the surface. Nowhere else has the magic of eclipses like Earth.
Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 1 month ago
Plenty of other places have it, and even more would have moons that take up a larger field of view than their star. The universe is so large it’s not like it would be unique to earth.

It’s also a now thing. The non avian dinosaurs didn’t have them either
