- Comment on Raspberry Pis are cheaper than Mini PCs again 5 days ago:
Sure that’s still a lot more than the original goal of $35 computing but you can still get a basic kit for the rpi Zero 2 W for $40.
35 dollars in 2012 is 49 dollars now whenntaking inflation into account. You can get Pi 5 1GB model for 45 usd.

Lid should go down unless you want all the poopy microparticles coming from your toilet when flushed.

In Europe it is mostly just defines by if you have ancestry or not since pure bloodedness really has bad connotations in Europe.

- Comment on Chat, is this true? Can cybercriminals really just tick an "I agree" box and do a cybercrime? I'm literally shaking and crying rn 3 weeks ago:
I can just swing a hammer and commit a felony.
I can just throw a match and commit an arsony.
I can just “speak convincingly to the secretary” and commit a cybercrime.
I can “just take this beer over here” and commit a theft.
Not all crime is complicated.

All do, but a lot of people don’t care.
- Comment on Expecting a LLM to become conscious, is like expecting a painting to become alive 5 weeks ago:
If you did, you could at least expect a human to learn and grow, or have a bare minimum standard for ethics, morals, or responsibility for their actions.
Some minority do, but you are somehow ignoring the currently most talked about person in the world, the president of the united states. And the party in power. And all the richest men in the world. And literally all the large corporations.
The problem is you are not looking for AI to be average human. You are looking for the domain expert of literally everything and behavior of the best us, but trained on the behaviour of average of all of us.
- Comment on Expecting a LLM to become conscious, is like expecting a painting to become alive 5 weeks ago:
You are comparing AI to a person who wrote a dictionary i.e. a domain experts. Take an average person from a street and they’ll write the same slop as current AIs

- Comment on YSK that giving kids a laptop doesn't improve their academic performance. 1 month ago:
also no one bothers repairing laptops anymore
Just because you don’t doesn’t mean no-one does it. I know plenty of people who do. I know plenty of local repair shops.
Of course if you are a mac user (which are made to be hard to repair) or otherwise have plenty of spare income just to buy a new computer every time the old breaks, but a lot of people dpn’t have that money these days.

- Comment on The U.S. patent for MP3 audio was granted on this day in 1996 — laid the foundations for peer-to-peer music sharing, iTunes, and today's streaming services 1 month ago:
Well, flac is hardly superior.
The files are HUGE and there is way less support for flac. The flac is inferior in a sense that the “revolution” would have never happened with flac.
Then again, the whole comparison itself is dumb because it’s apples to oranges comparison, because mp3 is a older lossy codec and flac is newer lossless codec.
