Good to know it’s still moving forward. I thought the project died because I’ve never really heard anything since the initial promotion of it a couple of months back.

Well, it is developed by a sole developer who also solo-develops Pixelfed. The guy spreads himself way too thin, so development moves slow.

I want to like Loops but I kinda do not like the lack of a recommendation system. And also it needs more users to actually have content. I keep checking it every once in a while, but 90% of what I scroll through are nothing but nature shots.

Everything has to start somewhere.

I remember when he announced that videos could be uploaded from the website next week…he said that in February. In August, he said it would be possible soon. There was an instance (loops.gay) that allowed you to do that, but it disappeared.

The “Explore” tab always has the same 12 videos. Look at it again 6 months later, same videos.

Makes sense. It was in pre-alpha.
Now that it’s in alpha, you’ll have 13.
Once it hits beta, it’ll skyrocket to an even 20.
Valon_Blue@sh.itjust.works 23 hours ago
Is it finally ACTUALLY AP enabled now? Been waiting on that.

Last I heard, and this seems to be the case as of this moment as well, only a few accounts are federated for testing (as in, maybe just one?). Mine definitely is not. Of course, this could change at any moment since it's released as alpha.

Question: can they get sued for putting TikTok-like in the description, or does that only apply when you’re making money?
autonomoususer@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
‘Open source’ misses the point of libre software.

Another salvo fired in the battle between Perfect and its mortal enemy, Good.
autonomoususer@lemmy.world 2 hours ago
Only if ‘open source’ wasn’t so blatantly engineered for ambiguity. It’s they’re only hope to derail libre software.
DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world 5 hours ago
Libre software misses the point of good sustainable software development.

Again?
irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 hours ago
After announcing it ~7 times.
Chozo@fedia.io 23 hours ago
So does this mean it's in a state where people can start hosting their own instances and begin federating yet?
Die4Ever@retrolemmy.com 22 hours ago
Seems like it, but nothing here yet aside from the official instance

Videos are hella compressed, dansup commented months ago saying hed update that soon increasing the limit, never did, my shit looks terrible
Coopr8@kbin.earth 21 hours ago
Looking great! I'd love to add this to my fedi-toolkit
FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 23 hours ago
All 7 users will be pleased.
Luci@lemmy.ca 23 hours ago
8 now that’s it’s foss
kernelle@0d.gs 23 hours ago
Every platform had 8 users at one point!
ThunderLegend@sh.itjust.works 3 hours ago
It was my experience when I tried it earlier this year. Around 5 people posting a lot and the other casual users just uploading tik tok videos.
wiki_me@lemmy.ml 20 hours ago
It actually reports about 27K monthly active users and is one of the more popular platforms on the fediverse.
JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 5 hours ago
And I still can only get 0 like, 0 comment shaky cam video of a screen capture of ultra zoomed in tiktoks or blasting shitty electronika music at 100dB clipping all to hell with 2005 era Microsoft visualizer videos.
Just like pixelfed, there is no way to discover anyone except the same 10-12 rotation of people they put in explore.
