The weird part is apparently Canada got hit by this too.
I’d be curious what those “market conditions” are that screw over our northern neighbors too 🤔
commander@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I’m guessing they haven’t fully siloed the Canadian supply chain from the US one, it may not be worth it yet to fully silo them off onto separate shipping, packaging, and support channels

Nintendo Forced to Raise Price of Console due to Thinking of Bigger Number
caseofthematts@lemmy.world 2 days ago
We’ve always been affected by American prices of things. Some things fly under the radar and will be slightly cheaper here, but for the most part, the prices here are matched market price of the US, despite having a weaker dollar.
I can’t imagine anyone would want to buy new games or old consoles for these insane prices, but then the Switch 2 did crazy numbers, so what the fuck do I know?
yggstyle@lemmy.world 3 days ago
The market conditions are nobody kicking Nintendo’s lawyers in the teeth and telling them to piss off… regardless of jurisdiction.
Follow that up with the consumer base clamoring for a gimpsuit shaped like the switch 2 and you get this result.
“Yes corporate daddy, punish me harder”

No dude your comment just makes no sense.

$70 was already ridiculous for a Joy-Con
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 day ago
I think its ridiculous that every console’s controller is $70 or more, but the JoyCons are most ridiculous because they are also built like trash and get terrible stick drift after just a few months.

Defective from the factory by design joy con.

Well, changes are PCs will be getting more expensive too. This isn’t really a Nintendo thing but a Trump tarries thing
ramenshaman@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I thought he was going to exempt phones, chips, and computers? Idk, he changes his mind on the tariffs every couple of hours. Fucking jackass.

Didn’t upvote or downvote you, but just voicing my disdain for that stupid ass slogan because “master race” has always been associated with Nazi beliefs and I don’t think making it cute or trying to take it back is something that should really even be considered.

That’s fair, I was never a fan of the name.

There is no price increase :

Oh no. I’ll have to continue to use my Steam Deck even harder now.
hitmyspot@aussie.zone 3 days ago
Lol, you think steam decks won’t go up in price too? Sanctions affect everything. If you already have a deck you’re unaffected but if you already have a switch you’re also unaffected, for now…
I have a PS5. I don’t intend to ever buy a console again. That era is dead.
ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 days ago
Similar situation here. Bought the PS5 and probably used it for a year or so and now it’s collect dust. Literally. Kind of regretting getting one. I only game on PC nowadays.
I was thinking to get a Switch 2 but then all the chaos hit with the emulation takedowns, Nintendo suing Palworld, Prices of Nintendo games, prices of their accessories and the whole game key card stuff. Just to much negativity.
Still thinking about Steam Deck but it’s 3 years in its life. So not sure whether that’s worth the €700 euro. Have heard it struggles with the current games.
hperrin@lemmy.ca 3 days ago
Sure, the deck can go up in price, but it would have to go up a lot to even reach the Switch’s current price. The Switch was already way more than I’d be willing to pay to get locked into Nintendo’s ecosystem.
