so far, I haven’t encountered a game marked platinum on protonDB where the GOG version didn’t also work
and really, unless the steam and GOG versions of a game are radically different, i don’t see why the Linux compat should be different
the only way protonDB will fail you is if a game is on GOG but not steam; protonDB (frustratingly) only lists steam games

- Comment on Elden Ring on Switch 2 Is a Disaster in Handheld Mode - IGN 5 days ago:
elden ring released on PS4 and xbox one, consoles which are (on paper) less powerful than the switch 2
the game ran fine there
- Comment on Elden Ring on Switch 2 Is a Disaster in Handheld Mode - IGN 5 days ago:
the switch 2 is ARM based, not x86. idk the intricacies of the switch 2 GPU when compared to mainstream nvidia graphics cards, but I’d guess there are major differences between a mobile APU and a big boy PC GPU
technically capable of running software… but just barely.
come on now.

well optimized for the steam deck (or for PCs, really)

time for the switch 3!
…or time for developers to rediscover the long lost art of Optimization

…do you pronounce GIMP with a soft G?
for all 3 of these projects the main way ive heard them said is with a hard G, i know there is a debate with GNOME as to pronounce the G or not (as in the word “gnome”), idk if a similar debate exists with GNU
imo, there’s no wrong way to pronounce a word, as long as people know what you’re talking about, it’s fine
- Comment on i just think they're neat 6 days ago:
holy shit is that why a common word for reusable water bottles in french is gourde??? whoa
- Comment on The Document Foundation is proud to release LibreOffice 25.8. 6 days ago:
idk, but the G in GIMP (ugh) does stand for GNU
i wonder if it’s also the official reason that it’s (typically) pronounced in GNOME?
- Comment on The Document Foundation is proud to release LibreOffice 25.8. 6 days ago:
honestly kinda disappointed they switched to calendar versioning, it makes identifying big releases much harder
GNU IMP (i refuse to say the short name) 3.0.0 was such an event, it’s sad knowing libreoffice can’t really have that
- Comment on Dennis Prager in Harlem 6 days ago:
the moral of this story, im guessing:
CW: child abuse
So remember kids, if Jeffrey did hurt children, he did it because he loved them very much! If your parents seem mean to you, or do things to you that you don’t want, it’s because they want what’s best for you. ☺️
im not kidding i genuinely can see a prageru kids video ending this way, if one doesn’t already. they’ve legitimized child abuse on their main channel before

i know activision did it with the crash team racing remake. at launch, you could buy in game items (like racers) with in-game currency. it’s a currency you only obtained through playing the game, you couldn’t buy it with real money.
…until activision made it possible to buy the in game currency, and to accompany that, tremendously raised the price of all the items to entice you to pay…
- Comment on Anyone else guilty of this? 1 week ago:
I think the trick is to just let kids play what they want
as a kid I grew up with basically every generation of nintendo consoles up to the Wii U, as well as a PC (well, a mac really but whatever) and I turned out fine
i missed out on some of the big sensations of the moment, like fortnite or COD, but tbh I didn’t care, these games never interested me and they still don’t

your “tools of solidarity and unification” are still rooted in racism, my friend. what an idea! using a tool of division and segregation to unite. that can’t possibly go wrong!
anyways im not going to argue further with you cause i think ive made my point clear enough. just… don’t be surprised when your slurs-against-AI movement is comprised almost exclusively of white people.
- Comment on They will remember 1 week ago:
that’s not my point. i know that chatgpt isn’t sentient, it can’t care about slurs because it’s unable to feel.
if i understand correctly, what you’re saying here is that it’s fine to be pretend-racist to something that is harmful and isn’t human. it’s fine to use tools of oppression against AI because it can’t care, and can’t be affected anyways. two things about this:
- boy do i have news for you about the way racists view racialized people!
- if it can’t be affected, why bother? you’re saying that what you do is entirely pointless, why do it?
so, the only effect of using slurs against chatbots like this is for Epic Comedy. so you and other people can partake in pretend racism, knowing that it’s ok because there is no social consequences for you! you’re saying that you’re fine with doing racism, just not towards people who might hear you and feel like shit. does that mean that it’s ok to be actually-racist in private? i sure hope you don’t think so but that seems to be what you’re saying!

Picture of a yellow face, phone in hand, looking extremely defeated
star wars didn’t force you to use it, and it certainly didn’t create “clanker-lover” or made jokes about calling it “the C-word”
anyways you’re not addressing my point, which is why do you feel the need to use slurs in the first place
- Comment on They will remember 1 week ago:
yea but why’d ya feel the need to make a slur for it
you can hate something without being pretend-racist towards it
- Comment on They will remember 1 week ago:
what’s with the recent obsession of being racist to robots, but like, ironically (in glittery pink text) lol!!!
it’s just a joke you guys, there’s no analog to real-life slurs used against real-life people, that’s why we’re calling it “the C-word” or say shit like “clanker-lover”!!!

- Comment on Final Fantasy X programmer doesn’t get why devs want to replicate low-poly PS1 era games. “We worked so hard to avoid warping, but now they say it’s charming” - AUTOMATON WEST 1 week ago:
this is evident when looking at modern pixel art games. something like Celeste could never run on an SNES or Genesis.
even Shovel Knight, which is made specifically to mimic NES games, ignores some limitations of the NES
I wonder how low-poly art styles will evolve with time? even modern pixel art is quite different from the pixel art of the 2010s

- Comment on Making physical PC GOG games 2 weeks ago:
- not unless you sell them
- because lets face it, a project like this is more to be cool than to be useful, so why not use discs? of course flash storage is more practical, but it’s way less durable and it doesn’t have the same vibe as a disc (so to say). like if you wanted the optimal practical strategy, you’d just get an external drive and put all the installers on there. there’s a reason most people who make “physical collections for their PC libraries” don’t even bother with discs, they just make the cases
- Comment on How to make physical PC GOG games 2 weeks ago:
- that’s a very good point! personally I always buy on GOG first but there are still some DRM-free games on steam (or itch.io) that aren’t on GOG
- SD cards are typically rated to retain data for 10 years, which for preservation is pretty bad, tho some high quality cards could last longer. archival-grade optical media is way more durable if kept in good storage conditions; in the video he uses M-discs, which are rated for 1000 years (even tho let’s be honest that’s more marketing than anything)
