its kinda sad how one of the biggest women’s community on the lemmy/main side of fedi is !femcelmemes@lemmy.blahaj.zone…
i mean, it’s a great community, but yea.

tbh these people would probably say linux is too niche anyways
but, like, imagine a project that’s entirely free, backed by donations, fully open-source, and so successful that it’s name has become a generic term for what it is. a project so successful that basically everyone who’s ever been online has used it and uses it frequently. a project so ubiquitous that almost everyone takes it for granted.
- Comment on Eight years on, Mastodon stubbornly survives 1 week ago:
some weird wannabe social network with no large corporation behind it and no VC money in the bank cannot work, should not work, will not work.
techbros can’t even imagine something working without capitalism, they truly have no imagination… no wonder they made genAI
- Comment on Switch 2 GameCube controller will only be offered to those who pre-order the console 2 weeks ago:
using last-gen hardware in their consoles
I mean there’s nothing inherently wrong with that (if only they charged last-gen prices as well lol)
but anyways here’s a bunch more shit they’ve done:
- killing emulation projects
- patenting basic gameplay elements
- sued a man so hard he was forced to pay them part of his income for the rest of his life
- charging full price for basic rereleases
and for a few older ones, just to show that they’ve been shitty this whole time, actually:
- attempting to kill game cheating devices (like the game genie)
- preventing 3rd parties from releasing games on competitor’s consoles, essentially giving themselves a monopoly
- attempting to kill video game rentals
- Comment on Note: before tariffs 2 weeks ago:
i said ubisoft but quality stuff by sony or microsoft (or any big studio) goes on sale too like a year after its released
for nintendo, a 7 year old rerelease of an 11 year old game is full price! even at retail! and the used copies aren’t much cheaper!
the only mario games on switch that go on sale are the mario + rabbids games, which are pretty good (definitely better than some 1st party nintendo stuff). the reason they go on sale, well, they’re published by ubisoft!

also, at least ubisoft shit goes on sale, and the used copies are less expensive…
for nintendo, once in a blue moon the game will have a 10$ discount and that’s it

yikes
- Comment on Switch-2 3 weeks ago:
remember when they released a 60$ HD upscale of a 40$ game that, itself, was at some point permanently discounted to 20$?

also, idk how true this is, but ive seen that google sells pixels at a loss when they’re on sale (they expect to make back the money by spying on you)
so if you were to get a pixel while it’s on sale and install grapheneos on it, not only would you get a nice phone with a secure os, but you’d do so while costing google money. win win win!
