- Comment on Sony cracks down on Concord custom servers, issues DMCA takedowns on gameplay videos 2 days ago:
they don’t even run their servers anymore, it’s not like the fan servers are competing with them…
is sony turning into another nintendo/disney? flexing their copyright muscle just because they can?
- Comment on Game marketing company takes down blog post bragging about how good it is at astroturfing Reddit after Reddit finds the post 6 days ago:
look at Mastodon and it’s practically what’s happening there. bot farms don’t even bother setting up their own servers, they just go to mastodon.social (by far the largest instance) and bot from there. and because .social refuses to have manual approval for each account, the problem keeps happening.

can second 8BitDo, their stuff is awesome
for 2D games (or games that are played with a d-pad rather), their Pro line is also very good! i have the Pro 2, and it works fantastic with Linux. idk about the Pro 3 but i can’t imagine it would be much different, and i heard the d-pad on that one is even better
- Comment on A hypothesis 2 weeks ago:
honestly i think part of the reason i’m a computer tinkerer now is my formative years were spent trying to run specific minecraft launchers, n64 emulators and other stuff on the family mac

omg right??!?!? i hate when that happens
- Comment on Missed opportunity for Oneshot to come to GOG? 2 weeks ago:
what GOG is doing is great and i commend their efforts (even tho i wish they’d relax their submission policies juuust a bit), and as a store, not having piles of shovelware is great!
but as a preservation platform, GOG’s approach is inherently limited. they can’t have every game, and they can’t keep supporting every game. that’s the fundamental problem with them as far as preservation is concerned.
the only way i can think of where we could have total game preservation is if every game ever made had it’s source code readily available, and all people were taught the programming skills necessary to make the games work on whatever future computers we have. that way, even the most obscure games which don’t have a passionate fanbase can be ported, fixed and played for years to come.
which, obviously, is not something that’s doable, by GOG or by anyone else
- Comment on Missed opportunity for Oneshot to come to GOG? 2 weeks ago:
it also kinda devalues GOG as a preservation platform, imo. honestly, even shovelware deserves to get preserved. but GOG being a preservation platform is more marketing than fact tbf
- Comment on Missed opportunity for Oneshot to come to GOG? 2 weeks ago:
apparently this is a big problem with GOG, they have a very strict and opinionated policy for accepting games on their store.
on one hand, this means GOG doesn’t have much shovelware, unlike Steam or itch. this is good. but it also means incredible games get the pass for ridiculous reasons.
iirc they passed on Balatro because it “wasn’t what they were looking for on the store right now”, and they initially passed on Undertale because the game’s graphics made them think it was unpolished… i wonder how many incredible indie games aren’t on GOG because of this?

of course they are. they aid genocide abroad, why wouldn’t they do it at home too?
- Comment on Apple Reportedly Moving Ahead With Ads in Maps App 3 weeks ago:
i just wish OSM was more complete… it’s fine for big cities, but when you live in small rural areas it’s practically useless. my village only has it’s roads mapped, nothing else.
(and yes i know you can edit the map. and that it’s the entire point of OSM. i know that. but it takes a ton of effort, and it’s an ongoing effort because cities change!)
OSM contributors, you are amazing and cherished and your work does not go unappreciated. i just wish there was more of us…
- Comment on Why are people using the "þ" character? 3 weeks ago:
sure, but you have to think about accessibility (like screen readers)
the iOS screen reader just read your last line as “sesides, it’s fun toe fuck around a ring little bit”

tbh you should do the same if you have adults
- Comment on Krafton is now an 'AI-first company,' will spend $70 million on a GPU cluster to 'serve as the foundation for accelerating the implementation of agentic AI' 3 weeks ago:
honestly for most people i feel like AI has already a solidified use, “the magic thing that answers all your questions and generates pretty pictures*”
compare that to NFTs which had strictly no use for the average person. i think what we’re seeing with AI is quite different
*(the fact that the answers and pictures are often garbage is irrelevant. as long as they’re good enough often enough, it has value to many people)

it’s nice to know that, to you, all we are is the last resort. the thing you’ll fuck when no one else wants to fuck you. just so long as you can drown yourself in beer to forget, of course.
it’s so nice to know that 🙃

haha yeah, im a quebecker :3
tabarnak is a swear word in quebec french, and like pretty much all swear words in quebec french it comes from a religious word (in this case, tabernacle) - maybe that’s why it sounds kinda fantasy-ish?
but you’re right lol, it really does sound like that!
