      Political bullshitery doesn’t belong in shower thoughts. They aren’t shower thoughts lol. A shower though is like “I wonder if skin bugs use my nail bed as a sleepy bed”

      Perhaps you don’t understand how the fediverse actually works.

      1. You posted in a community which has rules that are enforced by its moderator(s).
      2. That community itself lives on an instance which also has rules, enforced by its admin(s).
      3. The instance lives on server infrastructure also subject to rules.
      4. The countries where it’s posted, hosted and published also have rules.

      In other words, a post is never made in isolation. Just because it was removed is not evidence of censorship.

      Providing a single example of a post you made in an unknown context is not evidence.

      The only post I’ve had removed wasn’t anything controversial, but it was clearly against the community rules when I looked after the fact.

    This gets posted pretty frequently and I agree with it. However, it’s not obvious to me that there is a clear line where something moves from showerthought to unpopular opinion, making it hard to enforce. You could say that no opinion is a shower thought but that’s even tough to enforce.

    Using an example: “if you dot your t’s and cross your i’s, you still have i’s and t’s.”

    I would say that’s a good shower thought. I don’t want to pull that down, but it’s not an objective fact. I would understand if some people thought that was an opinion, because you would have really tall i’s and really short t’s.

    All rules are subjective, I’m just trying to tease out my understanding of this common critique.

  In my house, I have a no dumping on the couch rule. If you come in and take a dump on my couch, I don’t care how insightful your thoughts are, you’re out the door. In terms of the fediverse, you merely seem confused about what constitutes taking a dump. These rules are available though, you just have to read them.

  If you have spare time while developing your Don Quiote complex, give a passing thought to what censorship means. Nobody is banning you from having your super intellectual thoughts about government on the internet. Start a blog, your own lemmy instance, and fire away. But nobody has to listen to your thoughts; we’re free to go seek out other bullshit if we so please. That’s not censorship, that’s how the free exchange of ideas works. You don’t have the right to be heard on your terms in somebody else’s forum. And who knows, maybe modding your own would teach you a level of empathy that might make you feel embarrassed about your comments on this thread.

  /c/showerthoughts is notorious for deleting posts, the subs definition of a showerthought is very “narrow” in nature and they definitely don’t allow anything considered “political”.

      Some mods don’t want to have to spend a lot of time deleting bigoted and abusive comments.

      I did meet one who was a conspiracy theorist who deleted any evidence that debunked his bullshit. I just blocked his sub.

  In advertisement based platforms that makes sense as they need conversations to be in line with what advertisers want to sell on.

  But unless you are being a colossal knob or a mod is a colossal knob then the only censorship is self censorship on fedi platforms.

    That’s just not the case when you argue against Marxist Leninism on tankie instances, express any nuance regarding trans people (I say this as a trans person) on blåhaj.zone, or mention other highly charged and divisive subjects. And yes, some people self censor, but only because if they don’t they’ll get properly censored or banned, and have to create a new account.
