The subtext there might be that Dr Strange felt so hopeless about the situation that he didn’t conceive to look into the possibility, out of an infinite number of them.
Dr Strange saw 4 billion possible futures and none of them had Thor lopping off Thanos' head on his first shot

It is suspension of disbelief, that somehow, there was only one practical solution to defeat Thanos. And they do not involve Thor going after his head, or Thanos educating the population of the universe about family planning and contraception.
ThanosWasRight is just a meme. Thanos could have gone for the latter option but his faux concern about overpopulation is a cover for his egomania.
Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 5 days ago
I joke about Thanos being right cause i think we should be reducing the population but I don’t actually think killing half the world is a solution
TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 4 days ago
The overall human population is actually slowing down and expected to plateau by 2050. Who would have thought that the more educated the population is, the less likely they are going to have tons of babies.
It is now the opposite, actually. Governments now want people to have more babies! But seriously, in this economy? And the future of the earth is not even certain it will be habitable for our descendants!

I don’t know, feel like I’m warming up to the idea lately.
CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Yeah, that plan wouldn’t work. There are plenty of people today on earth, where we have endless access to education and contraception, who go out of their way to have like 12+ kids. They know what they’re doing and simply don’t care.
Someone telling people “Hey, be real cool if you like, had fewer kids” just isn’t going to accomplish anything.
TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Just because there are outliers, it does not mean the whole trend is represented by it. That is to say, the population growth is already slowing down and may even decline after it plateaus. Education and access to contraception works.

The comics kind of address this:
Killing the holder of the Infinity Gauntlet usually results in someone equally bad picking it up.
So just killing Thanos often isn’t a complete solution, after the stones have been gathered.

Or even just cut off his arm.
AdamBomb@lemmy.sdf.org 5 days ago
Seriously, why didn’t they stick his arm through one of those portals and then close it? Wouldn’t that sever the arm and separate Thanos far from the gems?

This proves Thor is the most consistent out of everyone in that universe.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 days ago
How many of the possible futures included Ant-Man crawling up Thanos’ ass?
ICastFist@programming.dev 3 days ago
Probably a lot of them, but he didn’t have the guts to share that plan
burgersc12@mander.xyz 5 days ago
14,000,605 is about 1 billion less than a billion, so 4 billion is an extreme exaggeration

My mistake, I remembered the wrong number

Dr Strangelove saw one possible future and it had 10 women to each man.
seven_phone@lemmy.world 5 days ago
I must say that is an extraordinarily good plan.
davidgro@lemmy.world 5 days ago
The women are unlikely to think so.
It’s like the reverse of the well known statistic that nine out of ten people approve of gang rape.

He wasn’t in one of those realities. His set of infinities was limited by the situaltion.

Or the Ant Man thing.

I bet most universes did and he was too much of a prude to mention it.
