Get the same hairdresser every time, explain it once. The next time you can say “same thing as last time”. Maybe some small corrections here and there, but I never have to explain my wishes anymore.
- Comment on The DMA already having an impact. Brave Browser installs surge after introduction of browser choice splash screen on iOS. 8 months ago:
In this context, maybe it kinda does. We tend to be techies, so a bit more accustomed to shitty UI/UX than most users.

Why does it suck though? Works fine for me. Granted, I’m a software engineer, but even looking through my “end user glasses”, I don’t see anything wrong with it.
- Comment on Samsung does an Apple with its first Snapdragon X Elite laptop, suggesting the new Arm-based Windows machines aren't going to be a cheap alternative to x86 8 months ago:
If it’s anything like the new MacBooks, then hell yes. I can go full days at the office, programming, without a charger. My old dell xps would crap out after 2 hours, tops.

Techies? Probably. Your average user? They will keep using windows 10. Just like they’ve been using XP, Vista, and 8(.1) wayyyyy past EoL.

Pretty sure those safety barriers were designed with personal vehicles in mind (+ safety margin). A truck would’ve blasted through them anyway, whether it be now, or 30 years ago.
- Comment on A 7,000-Pound Car Smashed Through a Guardrail. That’s Bad News for All of Us. 8 months ago:
A little bit, yes. The electric version of my current car is only 200kg heavier. For context, it’s a small, compact city car.
But cars are getting huge in general, EV or not. A current gen VW Polo is bigger than an older VW Golf. All the while the Polo is (still is) the smaller brother of the Golf. - Comment on Compact Rivian R3 EV Makes Surprise Debut With Awesome Hot Hatch Styling And Opening Rear Glass 8 months ago:

There’s a Dutch “media company” that scrapes socials for quotable things, puts them on a black background with white letters, and puts periods after every word. Also mugs, t-shirts, you name it. They made it their whole brand identity to WRITE. LIKE. THIS. Insufferable, really.

- Comment on TurboTax maker Intuit spent millions in record lobbying blitz amid threats to tax prep industry 9 months ago:
One doesn’t have to exclude the other. I sense the irony in saying this, being Dutch (whose country is considered a tax haven for the rich and corporations unfortunately), but we don’t have to pay for tax software at least. Worst case, you’ll pay for a tax advisor/accounted if you have a really complicated situation with shit like alimony and wish to squeeze every last cent from it.
- Comment on TurboTax maker Intuit spent millions in record lobbying blitz amid threats to tax prep industry 9 months ago:
So your government could do what the commenter above suggested for 99% of the population. Got it.
Because that’s what they do in my country. Your income is pre-filled, and most people don’t need to do anything other than double check it and click submit. If you want to get tax breaks for edge cases like uncovered medical care, extra schooling, travel costs as a freelancer, etc., you just follow the mostly easy steps and fill that in. - Comment on Stop wearing Vision Pro goggles while driving your Tesla: U.S. transportation officials, Calif. police 9 months ago:

- Comment on Tesla recalls 2.2 million cars — nearly all of its vehicles sold in the U.S. — over warning light issue 9 months ago:
For critical safety information/warnings, I’m on the side of the authorities here. Same reason that emergency stops on machinery should have clear, contrasting colours.
If it were about the font size for the clock or the AC, I’d be on your side, though. - Comment on Tesla recalls 2.2 million cars — nearly all of its vehicles sold in the U.S. — over warning light issue 9 months ago:
Honestly, it’s not like traditional automakers have a good track record of reliable software, either. Have you seen older infotainment systems? It’s like they got someone’s nephew to do the programming, and like they made UI/UX decisions by throwing darts at pictures stuck to the wall to determine the flows.

- Comment on One month ago, I didn't really know what 3D printing was. Yesterday, I designed in FreeCAD my first model and printed it. What an amazing experience. 10 months ago:
Blender is great for decorative/pretty stuff. CAD software is great for functional stuff as pointed out by others. It’s just so much easier to get accurate measurements and dimensions with CAD software compared to blender.
- Comment on If so-called AI is basically just Large Language Models, how come predictive text on my phone is bollock-useless? 11 months ago:
Dutch also has the issue with the compound words. Autocorrect will often put a space in there, which is grammatically incorrect (and ugly). I feel like it’s at a point now where the incorrect space usage has become mainstream and might change the language rules. Oh well.
- Comment on What can i do with 3d models as an everyday joe? 1 year ago:
Seeing a lot of recommendations for the ender 3 here. It’s a great printer, don’t get me wrong, I have one myself and I love it. BUT. You have to be ready to tinker with it. A lot. It is by no means comparable to a desktop inkjet or laser printer. You will be tinkering with it for tens or even hundreds of hours to make it better and better. If you like the printer itself being a project, then it’s honestly great. If you want a care-free 3D printer, then yeah, they are expensive.
- Comment on We have had guns for 200 years but mass shootings only became common in the last 30. So what changed? 1 year ago:
Exactly. Around the world, western countries seem to be enshittifying. The only difference is that the US has widespread access to guns which seems to lead to lots of shootings of all flavours. We don’t have that shit here.
