Back to self hosted datacenters it is. We rely on big tech way too much.
- Comment on Microsoft's cloud admin portals appear to be down worldwide 1 week ago:
True but the impact of these AWS/Azure/Google outages is huge and affects companies and services world wide.
- Comment on Bill Gates warns AI will take over most jobs and leave humans working just two days a week 2 weeks ago:
Earlier this year, Geoffrey Hinton, dubbed the “Godfather of AI,” highlighted the severe wealth disparity that AI developments could generate.
“We’re talking about having a huge increase in productivity. So there’s going to be more goods and services for everybody. So everybody ought to be better off, but actually it’s going to be the other way around,” Hinton stated during a panel discussion. “And it’s because we live in a capitalist society.”
“And so what’s going to happen is: this huge increase in productivity is going to make much more money for the big companies and the rich, and it’s going to increase the gap between the rich and the people who lose their jobs. And as soon as you increase that gap, you get fertile ground for fascism,” he continued. “And so it’s very scary that we may be at a point where we’re just making things worse and worse.”
This seems spot-on to me. All you downvoters obviously didn’t read the article.

Same. Made a bunch of IRL friends in this game. It truly is something else but so time consuming, reason why we all left the game eventually.
- Comment on Can someone give me some primers/resources on understanding politics in the Netherlands? 1 month ago:
NL might be paradise compared to the US, but I have never been to the US so not sure about that. We don’t have Trump here though so we do have that going for us.
Dutch politics is a joke, politicians prefer throwing mud at eachother over actually solving problems, of which we have many, and increasingly so over the last decade. Notably drug related crime (which is probably what our southern neighbours are referring to), poor care for the elderly, housing shortage, inflation, shortage of staff, etc, etc.
Our government, like many other european countries, is still very pro Israel, even though the vast majority of the people that live here are are not, especially in the current timeline. Not sure what the exact reason behind this is.
So, not exactly paradise I’d say.

Just needs a little more water and electricity and it will be fine.

I laugh at all these desperate “AI good!” articles. Maybe the bubble will pop sooner than I thought.

“Doing Our Part to Make the World a Greener Place”
Clown company. You can’t promote AI and do a claim like that at the same time.

I do not wonder anymore because he and his little band of insider traders have done this many times already (when they’re not too busy abusing minors).

I watch this dude sometimes, he says he’s a fulltime game dev but all I see him do is play other games. The game he works on has seen very little progress.
Would be nice if he at least admits he’s a streamer and not a game dev.

It amazes me the sane half (third?) of the US hasn’t overthrown this government yet. Or have they fled to North Korea where things are much better?

Besides, Cook also threw money at Trump.

My first Atari was a 1040ST. Amazing machine, spent a gazillion of hours on it gaming and programming in GFA Basic.
- Comment on Pixelfed Uptick in Monthly Active Users 5 months ago:
Maybe because Meta is going to use your photos and all the other shit you post to train their AI models.
I think they started doing this 2 days ago, it was in the news, here in Europe at least.

- Comment on Star Citizen’s new cash shop offerings provoked fresh pay-to-win and predatory monetization accusations | Massively Overpowered 5 months ago:
I played this game and threw some money at it. I wanted it to succeed. Recently there have been plenty of developments that convinced me to quit this game completely. This one just gives me more confirmation I did the right thing.
I think CIG is at its tipping point now and it will be game over for Star Citizen in a few years.
Class action suit anyone?

- Comment on Microsoft CEO says up to 30% of the company's code was written by AI | TechCrunch 6 months ago:
Horseshit.
The current state of code generated by AI is sketchy at best. I often get plain wrong answers because the model tries to derive. It comes up with calls to functions and properties that just do not exist.
“You are right, I made a mistake. Here is a better answer.” Continues to give wrong answers.
Apart from that, apps that are glued together from AI generated code are not maintainable at all. What if there is a bug somewhere and you so not comprehend what is actually happening? Ask AI to fix it? Yeah good luck with that.
I do use AI for simple questions, and it works fairly well for that, but this claim by MS is just marketing bullshit.
