I think Ham radio means hobby and amateur radio, I.e. not professional. Radio is a type of radiation at very long wavelength. From the wiki: “long waves can diffractaround obstacles like mountains and follow the contour of the Earth (ground waves), shorter waves can reflect off the ionosphere and return to Earth beyond the horizon (skywaves), while much shorter wavelengths bend or diffract very little and travel on a line of sight, so their propagation distances are limited to the visual horizon.”
Others have explained mesh pretty well.

Just installed two Bluetooth mesh messaging apps on my phone, just in case. Is there one y’all recommend? Are BIT and Berkanan ok?
I already have too many hobbies, not going to get into amateur radio. I guess I’ll go buy a battery powered radio receiver when I get a chance, or one with a crank.

Ah merci. Ravi de vous parler en Français.

That’s the hardest part of gaining conversational skills: being ok with not being understood, ok being laughed at a little bit. If you’re afraid of speaking the language you’ll never progress.

- Comment on What's it going to take to truly stop the US? 1 week ago:
How is the US population to unite, self organize into militias and erect barricades with the current surveillance state and social media polarization?
Americans are staying at home doom scrolling and getting angry about their scarecrow neighbors they are made to dislike.
We know for sure that Americans are not ready to do anything more than voting and praying to answer any form of the social question. Haven’t been for a while. We’re on the slope of them not caring about the political question either. It’s all bread, circuses and surveillance algorithms.
- Comment on Room temperature IQ is a far bigger insult in Europe than America. 1 week ago:
I hate this insult… if you are going to tell someone they are dumb just tell them they are dumb.
Why do we have to dance around with fancy concepts like temperature and IQ to throw an insult?
What even is temperature?? Little electrons vibrating for some reason and at a macro scale can be sensed as some energy level? I don’t even know but you know who else vibrates? Your mom.
Yeah that’s right, we don’t need science to insult people here.

My method of patient gaming is to only buy games that are $10 or less
Just got subnautica, hades 1, disco Elysium, oxygen not included, hollow knight (I’m sad to learn I don’t like platformers that much…), kerbal space program.
Shit, I have so much to play for the next 5 years just there.
Factorio and Hades 2 were my exceptions, got them full price.

Omg I hated that show… I’d like that saw the bit in Queer as Folk that was amazing at being super critical of commercializing gayness and they decided to make a show out of it like “wait, but what if we could actually make a shit ton of money off of stereotypes?”

The saddest news is that they are down to like 4 mechanical engineers. There were at least 30 when I was working there.
I was told all the engineering actually gets done by the contractors in China. The engineers just send a wish list and the China team hacks it together.
iRobot not going to make it. 4 engineers can’t innovate just like that.
- Comment on iRobot’s revenue has tanked and it’s almost out of cash | "Roomba customers are understandably concerned about the impact these current financial troubles might have on their home cleaning robots." 1 month ago:
I used to work at iRobot. Chinese manufacturers cloned Roomba so well that parts from their robot like wheels assemblies could be dropped in and the Roomba would work.
The issue is that iRobot decided not to litigate patent infringement in China because it’s an uphill battle.
I agree that iRobot was very slow to innovate. They were on the brink of releasing a lawn mower robot but covid hit and the C suites made the decision to kill that product and fire that team to reduce risk…
