This comes across as if you’re on the side of those peddling this (most likely) fake story. While what you said is true, it comes across as unnecessary at best, and malicious at worst to warn others about the “risks” of helping others. Good Samaritans can face legal trouble, but that’s exceedingly rare.
Always help others if you’re able and do it within a reasonable lens, full stop.

Okay, so I managed to find a reddit comment section from 12 years ago (don’t hate me) that seems to chalk it up as most likely untrue. Not sure if there’s much more evidence to be found one way or another

Thinking that pirating a $20 game from Nintendo is fucking someone over is a wild take. Stop treating international giga corporations like people

Do you work for the billion dollar company? Weird fucking take you have portraying them as a victim

Probably not from indie developers

Piracy is justified because I already own those games, and they’re not backwards compatible. I’m not going to pay for the same game multiple times.

Yeah, they’re really not taking into consideration how effective the propaganda has been over the past 10 years or so. It’s frightening that you literally cannot convince people with facts and logic at this point, and it truly feels unwinnable.

Nope. There have always been assholes, online and in real life. This is not a generational problem.
- Comment on Can people irl be as mean as some people online? 1 week ago:
As someone who has worked in customer service, the food industry, and healthcare, yes. They can be just as bad irl.

- Comment on Is it really dangerous to fall sleep in the bath? 2 weeks ago:
The average person will be fine. If you are a (remarkably) heavy sleeper, if there are drugs or alcohol involved, if you have any neurogenic disorders or have difficulty protecting your airway, you have a much higher risk of a negative, potentially lethal outcome.

- Comment on TikTok's 'Addictive Design' Found to Be Illegal in Europe 2 weeks ago:
It has infinite scroll. It’s not highly personalized like tiktok, it has auto play but there’s FAR more text posts than videos, and the push notifications are far less extreme (is there even a setting to get push notifications for every upvote, like tiktok enables automatically?). Lemmy really isn’t anything like tiktok.
