They should replace the XPS name with the Longitude?

It’s used for PCIE so of course it can.

I don’t think they can. They would need to rethink their company culture, but because the current one makes big numbers go up, they don’t really have to change anything.
- Comment on Amazon worker who was ran over and shot during NO attack denied medical leave. 3 months ago:
Here in Romania, the state pays for your salary during medical leave so it’s not a burden to the company (between 75% and 100% of the salary depending on the medical reason, for up to 180 days. There are other social nets beyond the 180 days). Of course, there is a tax for that that everyone pays, so it’s like a state-run insurance fund, but unlike private insurance they can’t deny it.

For big contracts between companies, this is actually done, in a way, through source code escrow. Would be nice if this was a thing for consumers as well.

- Comment on Apple’s first Mac mini redesign in 14 years looks like a big aluminum Apple TV 5 months ago:
I seriously don’t understand why Apple won’t make server macs, with proper server features like IPMI, rack mounting support, virtualization. As a software developer, macs are horrible to work with.
Beyond the nightmare that is code signing and certificates (required even for debug builds), the physical devices are special snowflakes. Getting them to play nicely in a CI/CD system is really difficult. They often freeze or misbehave requiring physical access to fix. Also, if you want to target older OS X or iOS versions, you need to use an older version of XCode (that Apple makes really difficult to find) and an older version of MacOS.
There are many other use cases beyond software development, such as render farms, network storage, backup etc.

There is the LTSC version (not sure if 11 is released yet, but 10 definitely is) which is basically debloated windows. Made by Microsoft, and targeted towards embedded devices.
- Comment on YSK: You don't own your Kindle e-books. 6 months ago:
Amazon is on my shit list and will not buy any products from them ever again. They are one of the worst monopolist mega corporations. They treat their employees like slaves, are anti-repair, anti-consumer.
I gifted an older Kindle to my sister, and the screen broke (out of warranty). I contacted Amazon about it, and they basically said they don’t make replacement parts and don’t service the kindles, they can only give me a small discount for buying a new one.
I looked up a guide on doing it myself, and even if I find a replacement screen, it’s really difficult. The screen is glued with a strong adhesive. The entire device looks very cheaply built and deliberately made really difficult to repair.

You can use an USB cable to upload files to the Kindle, the @kindle email address is just a convenience thing. Calibre is great for converting to a compatible format.

Which is why I will never buy a modern console. Once the company making them shutdowns the servers, the hardware will be useless. Unlike retro consoles that use physical media, which are highly sought after today.
