- Comment on Squarespace to Go Private in $6.9B All-Cash Transaction with Permira 4 days ago:
This is just the public warning to stop using square space. Once the PE vultures are in, the product will be made worse and more expensive until it shuts down for lack of “profitability”and growth.
- Comment on YouTube's war against third party apps is just as ridiculous as its war on adblockers 2 weeks ago:
That is absolutely a solution. But what I’m talking about is a way to monetize while keeping the service free but without showing ads.
This is the billion dollar idea. If not trillion.
- Comment on YouTube's war against third party apps is just as ridiculous as its war on adblockers 2 weeks ago:
This just in, people don’t like ads. At all. Most people.
It is time to find a new business model that works. I’m not smart enough to know what that is so that you don’t piss off customers, but whoever figures it out will be a billionaire.

I still believe their naming conventions has destroyed the brand.
Grandma that wants to buy a toy for their kids can go to the store and buy the next PlayStation. Xbox… which one do they buy? They don’t, they buy the easy option.

Quell the outrage.
They are paying for it. Here’s a quick link from the top of search.

This. I always say this exact thing.
If you provide content for free, expect people to take it for free.

- Comment on Palia developers lay off a third of staff just weeks after cosy life sim's Steam launch 5 weeks ago:
Video game developer here. It has been happening since the games industry started. Frequently, early games were made by contractors that were let go at the end of a project.
Many studios have done this for decades. Many developers actually like this as contract work pays differently than salary work and gives different freedoms.

Welcome to Lemmy. Where the idiots rule and the comments are always the stupidest thing you’ve read today.

People here are weird. I tend to just ignore the votes.
- Comment on Tidal’s subscription is getting simpler and cheaper — yes, you read that right 2 months ago:
I’m not the OP, but when Spotify added these is made the user experience worse.
I used Spotify for music and only music. So seeing a row or two of podcasts inserted before music was really annoying. Getting podcast recommendations was also annoying. If they would have let me just opt out of seeing podcasts, there would not have been any issues. But they didn’t.
I don’t use Spotify anymore.
- Comment on Tidal’s subscription is getting simpler and cheaper — yes, you read that right 2 months ago:
It takes a month or so before recommendations start to get close to my tastes. Apple has consistently recommended either old bands I haven’t listened to in years or new bands that I end up liking. Sure, they still fail from time to time, but I listen to a very wide variety and Apple seems to be the only platform to recognize that if I’m listening to metallica, I don’t want to hear kid cudi in the same playlist
- Comment on Tidal’s subscription is getting simpler and cheaper — yes, you read that right 2 months ago:
I spent a few months with each of them recently.
For me, Apple Music recommendations are by far the best. Tidal was decent but the UI was a pain and the integrations didn’t work well. Spotify had great integrations and easy device switching, but the recommendations were terrible, for me. YouTube music is the worst of the batch. Bad UI, bad recommendations, and just not a music lovers platform.
So, I use Apple Music. For me, it is the best since the GOAT Google Play Music was retired.
- Comment on Lemmy Active Users looking good 2 months ago:
Personally, I think it is worse here as there is almost zero opposing voice. On Reddit, there are people from almost sides of most topics. Here, in most conversations, there is only one side represented.
Now, I tend to agree with the bias here, on some things, some times. But even when I agree, I want to see arguments from the opposition. Otherwise, I never learn.
- Comment on Lemmy Active Users looking good 2 months ago:
I dont mean to be rude, but people that have been banned from Reddit coming here does not improve the community.
- Comment on Lemmy Active Users looking good 2 months ago:
I’d say this is only half of the answer.
After browsing Lemmy for a while, you get the sense that the average user here is the type that gets upset about a social media company making changes to an API. That is a very specific type of person and you can see it in the comments.
I’d guess people get turned off by that type of person and leave.
I come here once Reddit and hacker news content is old. This isn’t a place I’d recommend to anyone, unfortunately. There are extremely strong biases all over and deep echo chambers. Users here seem like the perpetually online type. Most perspectives I’ve seen have been heavily influenced by online discourse rather than reality.
I visit this site less and less due to the user base.
- Comment on On social media we have these huge conversations where nobody involved has any actual experience. They're just repeating what other people said. Isn't that literally insane? 2 months ago:
When this happens on a topic with which you have expert level knowledge, it is so blindingly obvious and eye opening just how wrong every other conversation may be. It strongly suggests having a highly critical eye on any topic.

I don’t use Linux at home because I don’t want to fiddle. I want to sit down, open steam, and play a game.
I use Linux for many things, but my personal computer uses windows because it just works all the time.
- Comment on Why were so many people believers in the conspiracy that 9/11 was an inside job 2 months ago:
Because I knew someone would take the bait. The saudis did it is another conspiracy theory from the time.
The conspiracy theories around 9/11 are almost as numerous and as fun to play with as JFK assassination.
- Comment on Why were so many people believers in the conspiracy that 9/11 was an inside job 2 months ago:
As I said with the very first statement, I don’t believe any of this.
why not just fund the terrorists and ignore warnings?
This is exactly what many tinfoil hatters thought and probably still think.
- Comment on Why were so many people believers in the conspiracy that 9/11 was an inside job 2 months ago:
I didn’t actually believe this, but it was fun to entertain the idea.
Here’s why. At the time, there were a bunch of very odd coincidences. I’ll do my best to remember the best of them.
- The CIA/NSA (one of the “secret” agencies) put out a budget report showing a large amount of money that was not trackable, in the billions.
- Coincidentally, the section of the pentagon hit by the “plane” was reportedly where financial records were stored.
- By “plane”, I mean object. If you watch the 1 video that got out (all other videos were confiscated) from the nearby gas station, the thing that hits the pentagon does not look like a plane but instead a missile.
Next!
- reportedly, the owner of the twin towers took out a massive insurance policy against the buildings the day or week before 9/11 (I forget exact timing)
- also, the building was covered in asbestos, the cost to remove was in the billions, and the cost to keep the building occupied always also increasing
Next!
- building 7 (I think that’s the right one) collapsed under what appeared to be demolishing conditions
- building 7 was never hit by a plane or anything else, it just dropped like it was purposefully demolished
There are more, but it’s been 20 years and my memory is hazy.
Overall, there were some oddities around the whole event that, when allowing yourself to think completely outside of reality, make sense as to why it was an inside job.
Finally, personally I believe the Saudis did it in cooperation with Bin Laden and their goal was to bankrupt America. They did a pretty good job, from their perspective.

- Comment on Reddit exodus - Using Lemmy from my existing Mastodon 3 months ago:
It is even more annoying on Lemmy clients that show every link in a comment at the bottom of the comment in easy to tap boxes. This is great for 1 or 2, but every mastodon post has everyone @ing everyone else.
I just downvote it all, block the users, and move on. That shit is annoying.

Yes, I read the bit about transcription.

Because it is actually a decent game and is a lot of fun to play. The story is silly, as expected. Combat and movement are a ton of fun.
My only current complaint is the missions are a bit repetitive.
