Sometimes it’s difficult to parse the technobabble of the show. I had to look this one up, and I found this.

a source or cause of keen pleasure or delight; something or someone greatly valued or appreciated: Her prose style is a pure waste.
I wasn’t aware of the second definition. Sheds new light on a (admittedly not amazing) song by my favorite band!
The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn’t a search for meaning. It’s to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you’ll be dead.

Bringing joy is never a waste, and memes do that. Unless it’s the O’Brian Minion or something similar; that can die by Janeway’s hand.
