I think they had some known about tunnels and in them some bricked off entrances to these places. Just an outlook and a concrete room with a hole in. Rough conditions even in peacetime.

Contact cement is great for putting soles back on cheap shoes and slippers, and I’ve seen it used on wood. I think it would work. Try a small patch overnight maybe? Remember to let it get tacky before bringing them together.

I just switched to migadu and found it painless and easy, I also run an email server with mail-in-a-box, which is great.
