- Comment on Microsoft no longer permits local Windows 10 accounts if you want Consumer Extended Security Updates — support beyond EOL requires a Microsoft Account link-up even if you pay $30 6 days ago:
For me, Minecraft bedrock (for kids) but looks like anything MS tainted will start (or maybe already does) require windows.
Looks like I have to decide what to do soon because they’re still on W10.
- Comment on GitHub CEO delivers stark message to developers: Embrace AI or get out. 1 week ago:
The git site has instructions on how to create your own git server in 30 mins.
It’s very easy once you know it’s literally just an SSH account. For personal projects or small teams is absolutely fine.
For open source there are lots of GitHub alternatives

I could but I would also like to pay the artists (if it’s not gonna bankrupt me)

I went looking today to see if I could transfer Spotify or Deezer playlists and how much it would cost to buy all the tracks but the first few I checked were unavailable 😔

Short term gains.
They think they can treat people like shit and then just re-hire when they need then again.
I hope people learn not to trust them, customers and employees alike
- Comment on Water chiefs’ pay rises to average of £1.1m despite ban on bonuses and outrage over pollution 2 weeks ago:
For every 100k of pay and 10k of bonus they should have to drink 1 liter of river water from one of the waterways under their jurisdiction. Randomly selected.

I looked into arts council grants and they just flatly do not do game development, sadly

Already got the landlord and energy companies lording it over me…
Would like it if they had a loan option or similar. Business loan was the only option left, grants come in tranches anyway, could have just had milestone based grant tranches.
- Comment on UK announces £30 million funding package and tax breaks as it aims to be the 'best place in the world to make games' 3 weeks ago:
In order to get the “content” (aka “make the game”) grants (at least recently when I applied) you needed to have at least 2 PAYE employees working on the game AND have the other half fully funded by non grant means.
Solo Devs are rejected out of hand and that seems incredibly short sighted. I am biased though.
- Comment on Lactose tolerant individuals are descendants of those who survived diarrhea from drinking milk. 3 weeks ago:
Mammals drink boob juice (it’s in the name)
Mammals grow up and stop drinking it, so they stop producing the enzyme.
If you don’t stop (i.e drink a cow’s milk after breastfeeding) then you keep producing it I’m pretty sure I read about continued ingestion can re-enable the enzyme production (as in, you can eat yourself tolerant again)
There may be genetic conditions that make the intolerance permanent though IANAD

Yeah, it’s a shame to get rid of it, I’m usually happy to let it go crazy for a few months so the bees and birds have their way. But I learned about bramble growth the hard way. Didn’t know they were vibes or they spread from the tips. Thought I could just chip the main stem and it wouldn’t be a big deal. But it’s had 2 summers now and when I cut the grass (or tried to) surprise!
The floor is bramble vines too. Like something out of a horror film, just kept pulling them up, ruined 2 pairs of gloves and 2 sets of secateurs , it’s only a tiny garden! (And the first sets were never up to the task)
Luckily I have some other bushes and ferns for stuff to live in but I just don’t have time to stay on top of the mechanical side to control it.
- Comment on Plant Slurs 4 weeks ago:
Cheaper than buying my third set of secateurs, I’ll give it a go, thanks!
- Comment on Plant Slurs 4 weeks ago:
If I can use it in a targeted way with limited collateral I will take it.
It between a shed and neighbours fence so as long as I don’t end up nuking their garden there’s not much else to affect.
Thanks

I wish someone had warned me before no now may about brambles.
1 shoulder injury and a year later I need chainmail gloves and a fucking flamethrower. I fill my green bin with brambles, by the time it’s picked up they’ve grown back.
The main root is under a shed. I don’t know how to eliminate it.
