Never forget that Peter Thiel knows about the antichrist
Oh, good: Discord's age verification rollout has ties to Palantir co-founder and panopticon architect Peter Thiel

It also seems he can’t shut up about the Antichrist, too.
Spoilers: Its always whoever he doesn’t like that’s been in the news the most this week.
chaogomu@lemmy.world 2 months ago
A note to that, Thiel always says it’s someone who expresses empathy, compassion, or other similar sentiment.
redsand@infosec.pub 2 months ago
Because it’s him? That would explain all the kids he raped with Epstein and Maxwell. And being friends with Elon Musk.

More like he’s good friends with him.

More and more things we give away because parents can’t be bothered to parent their kids. This is exactly how they win by slowly chiseling away our perceived rights until there is nothing left. I’ll certainly not participate in any Internet that requires me to shed my anonymity.
hamFoilHat@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Okay, this has nothing to do with parents parenting their kids. It has 100% to do with the perception that the internet is dangerous and using that perception to collect information about people. That’s what they want, to put a name and face to all interpersonal interactions so they can use them for marketing and law enforcement.
yeahiknow3@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
Social media converted half of Americans into nazis in about a decade and elected Trump twice. If you don’t think the internet is dangerous, you’re insane.
That said, it’s easy to keep kids off instagram and TikTok without spying. Simply require devices to which children have access to block half the internet. Problem solved.

I’ll leave this here.
Willdrick@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Read through the whole thing, you “lose access” to your stuff but it never mentions them deleting the content. Seems like the same shitty move Reddit did a while ago, “your” content in there is now theirs. Deleting your account just makes u unable to use/modify it.
helloyanis@furries.club 2 months ago
@Willdrick @BrianTheeBiscuiteer there's a cool video on the subject at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5FbRfwMEuo
Basically you have to use a tool to delete your messages and then send a GDPR request to discord before deleting your account, otherwise your messages will stay and will appear as sent from "Deleted user" with no way to delete them.
TerdFerguson@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Wooooowwwww. It’s being used for exactly what said it would be~
I know a lot if us are not even surprised the least, but i hope some of the head-in-the-sand naysayer motherfuckers wake up and learn something.
When they say the images wont leave your computer. Its because they converted it to facial geometry. They dont want the images because they take too much storage.
When they say they will delete it after processing, processing includes sending a copy to whoever else theyve agreed to share it with. Palantir, im sure here, maybe through an intermediary data broker.
I deleted my discord account immediately when the news of this face-check-age-check broke

Making the move to matrix, and hey it isn’t half bad. Convenience is a hard habit to break
Shaggy1050@lemmy.world 2 months ago
My friends and I are trying to. I’m having a heck of a time getting the server going though. Do you know of any good guides? Everything I’m seeing is from years ago and when I follow the guides i keep encountering errors.

Convenience as in “it’s what I’ve always used and I understand it” or are you noticing some awkward aspects?
CamelCityCalamity@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Why not Stoat? It’s much more like Discord.

Why he is obsessed with Antichrist? He is gay does he think the extreme Christianity will think he is one of them?
BanMe@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Once you have a few million dollars, you aren’t gay or straight anymore. You’re just a person who fucks people. There is no community within him, there is no care or compassion for others, the queer community rejects him, he can’t be one of us even in name. He’s just a billionaire who fucks men. And they’re OK with anything that comes after “billionaire” by nature.
squaresinger@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Don’t worry, he fucks everyone. He fucks his employees, he fucks his customers, he fucks government and he fucks the victims of his software.
vala@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
He’s a charlatan.
rektdeckard@lemmy.world 1 month ago
The antichrist is a convenient label he can apply to anyone he perceives as impeding his personal economic growth or power.

Oh, good. Discord’s age verification rollout has ties to Palantir’s co-founder Peter Thiel. That’s the nail in the coffin for me. It’ll be only Matrix for me from now!
biotin7@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
Or XMPP or Stoat.

Anybody here who have a good recommendation for something as simple as Discord with audio lobbies? I see all these recommendations for alternative platforms and software which mostly focus on the community/forum aspect of Discord, and not the things Discord was meant to be used for: talking with your buddies while gaming.
victorz@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I used Mumble before Discord was a thing, but the self-hosting a server thing got a bit old, and required me to keep my PC on at all times in case my buddies wanted to play games and chat when I wasn’t available.
Willdrick@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Murmur (mumble server) is so light it can run on a smart toaster.
squaresinger@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Teamspeak. It’s old and it’s still good. Uses no resources at all compared to Discord and there are thousands of free servers if you don’t want to host one yourself.
victorz@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Yeah? I’ve heard about that since I was young, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to enshittify for some reason. But I thought it was made by a company. Oh well, might give it a go. Thank you.
Yttra@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Stoat has vc, but I haven’t had the chance to try it with someone else yet.
victorz@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Any reason why anything not self hosted won’t be subject to enshittification down the line? 🥲
Clasm@ttrpg.network 2 months ago
Text has been a little sluggish with my tests. Might be due to influx of users, though.

I uninstalled Discord yesterday.

squaresinger@lemmy.world 1 month ago
There’s not really anything on that account, tbh. I only ever used it a few times to talk to friends when playing minecraft.

I love how mask off they were in choosing Palantir as their dipshit company name. Like, “Yes, hello, you are now calling Anakin Skywalker’s Daycare Service. Are you looking to enroll your child.” Bet our political elite would love that one.

To scramble and divide any organized communication just like they did Twitter and other social media.
