Killing SNAP benefits now is demanding a Blue Congress next election.

There have been a lot of last straws, but defunding SNAP is basically begging people to vote the current crop of Right wing Congresscritters out in the next election. They could have waited to do this until November of 2026, but they’re doing it now and elections around the country are already swinging left.

What’s the play? Do they want to lose all the popular votes so they can somehow try to ignore the popular vote system in the near future? Are they actually running stealth right wing candidates as Democrats? Or are they just flailing?

MTG seems to be the first rat to jump ship, how many will follow?

yup. this is while way worse a lot like his first go round. double down as he goes down and not being able to understand any other way of doing things. its why foreign leaders have learned to do pomp and circumstance and give him words or things that would give the impression he won without really losing anything of substance. they know if they fight him he will double down no matter how much worse the economic effects are in the us vs their own country. its hard to deal with a leader who does not care about their people.

The Trump administration is planning to somehow rig the next election or stop it from happening. They are not behaving like they can be voted out

The Administration’s idea is that the 2026 election will be rigged in their favor.

Which might not work. Congressional Republicans may not be in on the plan, at least not all of them. Even if they are, they might be getting cold feet. Same with Republicans at the state level, and they’re the ones who have direct control over elections.

Don’t rely on them falling apart on their own, though.

I think the play was 100% Mike Johnson going “Let’s not swear in the newest Democratic Representative from Arizona and prevent the Epstein Files from being released in full…” and him teling the Republican GOP congressmen to leave went further than he expected, and rolled into the ACA tax subsidy collapse and then the SNAP fiasco.

The congressmen are just as blind as the rest of conservative, middle-class America as to how large the demographc of white Americans on welfare really is.

  But I disagree that Congress is clueless here. They know, they’re gambling on pushing the “Democrats are the problem!” message. FFS, they’re putting that exact message on federal websites! Said message isn’t really catching on.
  
  Wrong again, I always said our corporate and government masters would screw us out of everything but food. Circuses all day! But circuses must come with bread. Humans will put up with about anything as long as we know where our next meal is coming from. (LOL, I have a hard time suspending disbelief when reading/watching fiction; How is our hero to EAT?!)
  
  12.3% of the population on SNAP is a significant number. Considering you have to be 130% under the poverty line to apply, Haysus, that’s a lot of mad, desperate people.

Senate majority requires Maine (the easiest red seat to flip) + 3 solid red states to flip blue.

  If the house flips, though, then the Epstein investigation along with other things can proceed, and the House can block bills before they go to the senate or president. So while it won’t fix anything outright, it can stop more damage.

  Political lean can be a funny thing. States move together. It could very well be that it doesn’t shift enough to pick up those extra 3 states, but if it does, there will probably be several more.

  Pretty cynical take, but I was wrong in saying our masters would never let us starve. Even a cursory view of revolutions should clue them in.
  
  Let’s go with martial law, get it over with. The military is largely civilian, and everyone involved has family and friends. Not going to go as they expect. (What I mean is that civilians walking off the job instantly cripples maintenance, supply chains, advisors, all that.)

The play is either “it’s the Dems fault!” Or there is something a lot worse they are covering up with this drama.

I don’t think politicians are smart so I’m going with the first option.

  Speaker Johnson can’t swear in our new Congresswoman from Arizona as she’d be the deciding vote in releasing the Epstein files. May not even need that single vote as Republicans seem to be ready to jump shit, get ahead of the coming fiasco. “I voted to see the TRUTH!”

    MTG is the weirdest politician I’ve ever seen. I honestly can’t decide if she’s stupid, wily as a fox, playing games and, uh, winning or losing? Considering how she got into office in the first place, I know she has zero morals, but other than that, I got nothing.

  As much as I think the “WOKE MTG” arc is funny as fuck, and the fact she is actually sticking up for her principles (as fucked up as they are) is kinda respectable. But don’t get it twisted, I think she’s still a horrible fucking woman. To me she is now what I’d call a worthy opponent who just happens to not be in the side of the main antagonist.

    I applaud your ability to believe she has principles, but a “worthy opponent” isn’t someone who believes in “Jewish space lasers” or any of the other wackadoodle conspiracies she’s repeatedly espoused. She may be on the correct side on this one issue, but it most assuredly is either because she thinks it serves her own goals in some way.
