Shit post aside, I had a friend with a background in the restaurant industry (did a bunch of time in various restaurants, went through cooking school, that kind of thing), who put on a work sponsored barbeque. When someone asked why the folks helping him got promoted to Chef, my friend explained it as “everyone in the kitchen is addressed as Chef, it doesn’t matter if they’re calling the shots, cooking food, or doing dishes. It’s a show of respect.” Grain of salt and all since cultures vary between restaurants, but it’s stuck with me because it was such a genuine moment of “this dude loves to cook and got a chance to share something he’s super passionate about”.

Unrelated, but wanted to ride your coattails on something that just came to mind.
I used to be a busboy in a hotel, saw the chefs in back of house. Every once in a while I saw the chef in charge of meat, and he was a metalhead that I saw once time with a Dimmu Borgir T shirt. I called him “Chef Dimmu” in my head.

I didn’t know what Dimmu Borgir is but since were talking about food I have now convinced myself it’s a Middle Eastern take on the cheeseburger and I will not be told otherwise.

It feels shitty to keep calling girls “Jenny” when it means “female donkey”

Her name is Jeanie though, which I’d pronounce differently to Jenny… unless it’s one of those awful new age spellings of a classic name.
Fwiw Jennifer is a fine name and people can figure out the best way to shorten it for their circumstances. Maybe living in a rural community with a lot of donkeys would affect it.

This has gotta already be a popular kink within the restaurant industry
