Honestly we’re probably way too late to stop that from happening. That’s been part of Elon’s plans for a long time. Battery power, robot tech, space technology. And Elon isn’t the only player eyeing what’s out there.

I keep reading about how they don’t have enough helium supply. Is everything fake news?
- Comment on Is lemmy dying? 1 week ago:
Lemmy has lost that funny spark and energy, but it’s because of the weird niche user base. Other platforms don’t all have this problem.
- Comment on At this point it might be the wisest decision 1 week ago:
The Bible says that the time of Jesus’ return will be like the time of Noah when everything was shit. But instead of flooding it, the next time will be destruction by fire. The rainbow was just a promise not to flood it all again. But it gets better after that! That’s my paraphrase version.

I had shitty American school French when I went to Paris and I did my best, and nearly everyone said they didn’t speak any English which I knew was a fucking lie. I have since decided not to speak French. I’ve still got Dutch, German, Korean and a little bit of Norwegian on top of English. France is the only country in Europe I don’t want to visit again. Rural France was better but I still don’t plan to go back.

Yeah my daughter is studying ASL in college right now and have learned a lot about sign language recently.
- Comment on Why not just move to a gated community 3 weeks ago:
There is also more legal protection from trespassing. It isn’t illegal to be on a public road or sidewalk in a neighborhood you don’t live in, and you can’t be trespassed unless you commit a crime. If the road and sidewalk are privately owned they can tell you to leave for any/no reason.

My area got flooded with Flock cameras during Biden’s last year. Both parties want the surveillance no question. But they also want to be in power. God I hate those cameras.

I think usage is regional. Although I’ve never lived in a region where anyone actually used the term wieners. I’ve heard franks used sometimes. But mostly it’s brats, sausages or dogs. Brats are only bratwurst. Dogs are only hot dogs, it doesn’t matter what kind of meat or even vegan, but it’s unseasoned. Sausages are any other seasoned meat in a casing.

Yeah we have a place around the corner called the market where people shop for free. You can only shop twice a month tho.

It’s just as simple as that
- Comment on Landlords are parasites 1 month ago:
No, it’s more of a testament to how car-dependent our area is. You can live without a house, but you can’t live without a car, or access to someone who will drive you. Housing here is comparitively affordable.
- Comment on Landlords are parasites 1 month ago:
I work with a lot of homeless, and I have known a few who have rented a car in a pinch. But you’re right, most just have an old beater they own.
- Comment on Landlords are parasites 1 month ago:
In my area, the majority of homeless have cars. A car rental can be more important than a home to rent for survival for more people than you might think.

My commute is 20 minutes of curvy back roads. No traffic. Some farms and livestock, some forest. The roads get too much heavy truck use to be safe for cycling, but it’s a really nice drive.

- Comment on 1 month ago:
I actually agree with the sentiment of this post even though there are obvious exceptions. Your character doesn’t change when you’re drunk, just your inhibitions. So yeah, getting drunk reminds me I can be an asshole and probably I want to be more often than I do.
But you know what I’ve never done while even blackout drunk? I’ve never cheated on my wife. Because I don’t want to do that. I’ve had crazy hot women ask me to hook up and I was too drunk to even say, sorry I’m married. All I could get out was naww.
I’ve felt bad because I have seen devistation in the face of young women being blown off by an older dude but I was too drunk to express myself. I was also probably too drunk to be a great lover at that time, so maybe I did them a favor. But when you’re that drunk and the next morning all you can remember is destroying the ego of a skinny 25 year old, you know you didn’t imagine it.

It doesn’t help that there is way too much shitty, agenda-funded science today. And science we aren’t supposed to question. And science driven entirely by profit. Like, isn’t questioning science part of science? Of course the response is completely unreasonable too. All of my family are research scientists, and if a discovery doesn’t meet capitalistic goals, is it even a discovery at this point?

Between the cost of housing and the cost of food, and the fact wages aren’t that much better than they were 15 years ago - you’d think they would realize they are asking for the scraps people have left.
I’ve always just bought games when they’re on a good sale, I’ve never had a game pass type thing. But maybe they just want to squeeze a bit more out of their most loyal customers and they’re accepting that it is a dying model.

For me the bong hits were more in the 90s, it was more pipes or joints before that. People talking on the phone all day was more of a '70s and '80s thing. Non-stop busy signal. And then later we added modems to the same line.
