Do you really want the world to join here? I don’t think you do. A lot of the world is anti trans, anti woke or whatever they want to call it. I’m pretty open minded but the Marxist purists who continuously shout down differing opinions get really old sometimes.
- Comment on YSK: starting Feb. 1, passengers arriving at US airports nationwide without a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport, will face a $45 fee 2 days ago:
I’m not going to lie, having a crowd of people waiting at the end of the deboarding tunnel for you was freaking awesome.

I just saw a story about Bill Gates. Sounds like a massive file dump is happening.
- Comment on PSA: There's a free Fallout 4 mod for that Fallout Show NCR power armour Bethesda are charging $30 for as DLC 3 days ago:
Im happy playing it without the DLC. It has been my #1 game for the last couple of years but I’m not giving them more money. I am currently playing with no mods and can live without that power armor too.
- Comment on YSK that a general strike is one of the most effective ways to push for change. There is a general strike in the works across the US for this Friday. 4 days ago:
In my area the only union jobs are government employees and a few contractors that contract with the government. My wife has a union job but they’re almost impossible to get. I’ve never been able to land one.
- Comment on UK announces largest ever facial recognition rollout as part of policing reforms 6 days ago:
They’re not going to abandon the surveillance state, it will only grow. They may posture like they’re putting controls on it, but at some level all of the assholes in government want this.

Brazil could be the world’s superpower but they have other priorities.

It’s still pretty big.
- Comment on YSK: Europe Can Wreak HAVOC On America Without Firing a Bullet. 1 week ago:
Well they are cowards, that’s why there are so many “former” colonies. Give it 20 years, Europeans won’t even control their own lands.
- Comment on PC game recommendation for my partner and I 1 week ago:
Honestly the coop play on Lego PC games is pretty good if you can get over them being cartooney. You have lots to pick from too, so maybe your partner has movies they’re a fan of that are represented in Lego games.

It’s true. But I’ve been alive a long time, and it’s pretty fucking bad right now.
- Comment on If only 1 week ago:
It was a great time. Felt like less racism, big brother hadn’t been built, pirating was easy, cost of living was low, and the music was lit.
- Comment on YSK: A real American Civil war will NOT be like Battlefield or COD. 1 week ago:
Also, many progressive cities are literally surrounded by conservative suburbs and rural areas. It wouldn’t be difficult to cut the cities off from food supplies.
- Comment on [meme] choochoo 2 weeks ago:
90% of the US has none of that. Nothing walkable. No trains. No buses. No sidewalks. I’ve lived in places with transportation pretty decent, but the only option where I live currently is cars. We are generations away from what you’re describing. Making cars more expensive isn’t accelerating the development of alternatives, it’s only making people suffer and more and more angry.
- Comment on I've never been in a situation where me having a gun would have made things bettter. 4 weeks ago:
Yeah I’ve had the tent I was sleeping in broken by a bear while solo backpacking. I didn’t end up needing to shoot it but I always carry bear spray and a gun when I’m solo camping in bear country.
- Comment on Microsoft kills official way to activate windows without internet 4 weeks ago:
I moved three Win 10 boxes to linux mint cinnamon this week. Twenty more and I’ll have made good progress on my little nonprofit. But I’m probably at least a decade from being able to go 100% away from windows and Mac’s. Fuck em both.
- Comment on Ska ftw 5 weeks ago:
Damn, I didn’t realize I was ska until just now. I in fact have a trumpet and a coronet. And the first live show I ever got high at was Skankin Pickle touring Skafunkrastapunk. Somehow completely unrelated I ended up with their bass drum kick pedal about a year and a half later. I don’t even listen to ska though. But the attitude is all mine!

I have always simply refused to memorize anything.
- Comment on earth, fire, water, wind - it's not hard 1 month ago:
Yeah this is exactly why I mentally checked out of chemistry. Memorization was being pushed harder than conceptual understanding.

Honestly we’re probably way too late to stop that from happening. That’s been part of Elon’s plans for a long time. Battery power, robot tech, space technology. And Elon isn’t the only player eyeing what’s out there.

I keep reading about how they don’t have enough helium supply. Is everything fake news?
- Comment on Is lemmy dying? 2 months ago:
Lemmy has lost that funny spark and energy, but it’s because of the weird niche user base. Other platforms don’t all have this problem.
- Comment on At this point it might be the wisest decision 2 months ago:
The Bible says that the time of Jesus’ return will be like the time of Noah when everything was shit. But instead of flooding it, the next time will be destruction by fire. The rainbow was just a promise not to flood it all again. But it gets better after that! That’s my paraphrase version.
- Comment on It's important! 2 months ago:
I had shitty American school French when I went to Paris and I did my best, and nearly everyone said they didn’t speak any English which I knew was a fucking lie. I have since decided not to speak French. I’ve still got Dutch, German, Korean and a little bit of Norwegian on top of English. France is the only country in Europe I don’t want to visit again. Rural France was better but I still don’t plan to go back.
- Comment on It can be harder to surveil private conversations if everyone just used sign language. 2 months ago:
Yeah my daughter is studying ASL in college right now and have learned a lot about sign language recently.
- Comment on Why not just move to a gated community 2 months ago:
There is also more legal protection from trespassing. It isn’t illegal to be on a public road or sidewalk in a neighborhood you don’t live in, and you can’t be trespassed unless you commit a crime. If the road and sidewalk are privately owned they can tell you to leave for any/no reason.
