They put a shit ton of money into state races, too. Their plan was to get enough state legislatures in their pocket to call a constitutional convention and rewrite the US as an anarcho-capitalist state.
YSK: Two oil brothers, Charles Koch and David Koch, attempted to purchase the entire United States Congress

Seems like they found a way to do that without having to do the Constitutional Convention.

Shyeah. They tried to overthrow democracy by due process? Rubes!
aviationeast@lemmy.world 1 week ago
That sounds like treason to me.

Lets not give stateless capitalists the label “anarcho” that they try to claim.
Anarchism is the abolishing of systems of domination. You cannot be capitalist and be anarchist. It’s an inherent contradiction. At it’s most basic, anarchism is the abolishment of the state and capitalism. That’s why it’s often called “Libertarian Socialism”.

they want slavery that’s what they want.
anarchy to them means no legislation to stop what they want, you see the attacks on institutions and regulations all the time. It seems like our representatives hate the FDA and the EPA, wonder why
bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 1 week ago
I believe that was a stretch goal… the common story has always been that they wanted to take over redistricting after the census, which they really did knock out of the park, catching dems flat-footed.

And it worked.
We don’t actually have a democracy, y’all.
jagged_circle@feddit.nl 1 week ago
We didn’t before them.
FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 week ago
That’s true.
Even the original Constitution only allowed voting for landowning white men, despite the lofty rhetoric. We are not and have never been a democracy.

I wonder what their security is like?

Tight. Very tight. One man once managed to interviewed one of the brothers.
They tried to ruin his life.
At the congressional swearing in ceremony for the Tea Party wave, I saw David Koch leaving the building and got a short interview. Every other political interview Koch ever gave was carefully screened. This one wasn’t.

This interview apparently angered him. Shortly after they hired private investigators & operatives and I got harassed for over a year. An old high school media account got hacked, they hosted a website calling me a liar, edited my Wiki, a Koch blogger smeared me almost every day.

Yikes. Listening to him talk, and his security guy or whoever that was, leaves a really sickening feeling in my gut. They come across as psychopaths for some reason. It’s that cheap charisma that feels so off-putting. I worry what those types of billionaires do in private that will never reach the light of day. Epstien Island type stuff we’ll never know about.
robolemmy@lemmy.world 1 week ago
One of them it’s dead, so his security is perfect. I’m hoping the other one ups his security game real soon now (due to natural causes, obviously).

If it makes you happy, the constitution was created to prevent this exact scenario, which is why everything in the US is an oligopoly and not an outright monopoly that can buyout the entire government. Stuff like US Steel, Standard Oil, and the original JP Morgan has never truly been eclipsed in sheer power in the modern US.
Even with collusion, deals still fall through and billionaires fight each other because they all want to be king.
So uh, woopdeedoo I guess

Somewhat depressingly they bought my alma mater and gutted a lot of its humanities programs…luckily (for me) I was well graduated by then.

Funny about dodging paywalls is that nobody condemns using content without paying the creators unless AI does it.

It’s the Koch’s. If you want a somewhat happy ending, David is dead now, at least.

The kochs have been the actual boogeymen of American politics for a long time. They’re basically what the right always fear soros is, but for racist, imperialist, corporatist shit. They basically responsible for citizens united.

Jayne Mayer’s Dark Money should be a compulsory read.
