- Comment on Raspberry Pi 5 vs Intel N100 mini PC comparison - Features, Benchmarks, and Price 1 week ago:
They were awesome when they were $30. Nice support, do niche things, but now they’re the same price as a decent Window micro PC without the Linux hastle.

But i want to spend 3 hours trying to set up a NES emularor.
At this point, I’m not sure why someone would buy a Pi. I used my Pi 3 for years and got it super cheap on release.

- Comment on Fairbuds are Fairphone’s proof that we really could make better tiny gadgets 3 weeks ago:
Anything that’s repairable is by component (main board, sound card, battery, camera, case, etc.). It was nice when we could swap batteries in cellphones. I have a Samsung S24 Ultra that came with a promise of 7 years of updates but the battery will degrade well before that and will cost $200-300 to pay a repair shop to replace because of the need of specialized tools. With my old Samsung Note 1, I could get a new battery for $20.
- Comment on Fairbuds are Fairphone’s proof that we really could make better tiny gadgets 3 weeks ago:
I’m wondering about that. I’ve worked with several manufacturers, and their most profitable segment is parts. If you ever want to get the highest annual bonus, work for the parts devision.
- Comment on Dollar stores are shutting down across America. They did this to themselves 3 weeks ago:
All of that takes up less space than a mini fridge but I will give you that it is a bit unweildy to get home. You could get a months worth of food on two or three bus rides. All of that stuff is stable for at least a month. I did that for 2 years while trying to survive on minimum wage.
- Comment on Dollar stores are shutting down across America. They did this to themselves 3 weeks ago:
It cost more. When I had a $200 budget for food a month I went to Costco and bought a bug bag of rice, 5 dozen eggs, fuck ton of tuna fish, and dried mashed potatoes. Buying in bulk is the way and the shit at dollar stores cost way more per quantity.
- Comment on 5.25-inch floppy disks expected to help run San Francisco trains until 2030 3 weeks ago:
I mean 1989 was the last time I used a 5.25 in elementary before everything was switched to 3.5 with the IBM Model 30.
- Comment on 5.25-inch floppy disks expected to help run San Francisco trains until 2030 3 weeks ago:
CDs were released in 1982 and pretty damn stable. One year after 3.5 floppys…6 years after 5.25 floppys.

Shit, even looking up repair information for a household appliance if can’t find the model before the newest and it all points to a sale page for the newest version.
Maybe AkJeeves!?
