I ignored mine for over a decade and it quietly turned itself from grass into a naturally low-growing ground cover that looks like clover. It never needs watering and the only mowing needed is to chop down the stray weed here and there. It’s quite nice.

When I’m playing civilization vi and I found a religion, I always call it “goatseism” in his honor.

It’s nice to see an actual technology post, instead of business news about tech and tech adjacent companies which is the usual fare here

- Comment on AppleTV complete replacement opinions 4 months ago:
I use flauncher. It’s ugly and doesn’t have a lot of features but I don’t care. I only have two apps installed, so I’m rarely looking at or using the launcher anyway.

Nvidia Shield Pro with the default launcher disabled & replaced, Plex server. I’m pulling the unused apple TV out of the media setup this week.
- Comment on Monthly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing? 4 months ago:
Yup, I played with literally dozens of mods under linux and steam. I’m having trouble finding it again, but I used a guide to install steamtinker and mod organizer, then everything was pretty easy after that.

That’s odd… on my TV there are no youtube ads, and no sponsor messages.

I think we’re talking about two different floridas. Yours is the young and poor one, where mine is the old, retiree snowbird one.

If the Enterprise was built in Florida, it’d be a combination of the two.

In memory of Matthew Perry, I played through Fallout New Vegas, with the Viva New Vegas mod pack. I sided with Benny (the character voiced by Perry) for the first time ever. Even played a female character with the black widow perk, so Benny could get lucky one last time.
- Comment on As far as we know, there are 0 Taco Bells on Mars. 5 months ago:
Given the incomprehensible vastness of the universe, it’s the height of arrogance to assume that Taco Bell has not arisen in other star systems. The only thing doubtful is that extraterrestrial Taco Bells have visited Earth.

- Comment on Nvidia Shield is getting Auro 3D audio support, full-screen ads 5 months ago:
This is what I’m using. It’s kinda ugly but totally ad-free and does what I want but not one bit more. I installed flauncher, connected to the shield with network adb, disabled the leanback launcher, then hit the home button on the remote. Easy peasy, and much better than remapping buttons IMO

Honestly, for running jellyfin/emby/plex, there’s nothing better. The only thing an update might get you would be higher refresh rates or maybe 8k support, but for watching video, who cares?
Once I disabled the built-in “leanback” launcher with its fucking toxic ads and replaced it with flauncher, it’s been essentially perfect for watching media. flauncher is fugly as hell but it stays out of my face, unlike google’s ad-focused launcher.
- Comment on What's the difference between asking someone title or someone's pronouns ? 7 months ago:
They lost their minds back in the 60s/70s when women started using Ms instead of Mrs/Miss. Even into the 1990s, some conservative men were still butthurt about it. Rush Limbaugh was particularly offended over Ms Rodham-Clinton’s title and hyphen.
They lost the battle over women’s titles and the pronoun thing is their new hill to die on.
