Boycott Xbox!
Oh, everyone already is…
Sweet. I’ve been boycotting micro$quash for a couple of decades now.
Same! Crazy to think that it’s been that long. My first real Linux OS was Kubuntu Dapper Drake.
Don’t forget to schedule your colonoscopy. 🙂
The more reason to get a Steam Deck.
Is Microsoft worse than Google?
It’s been shittier for longer, if that helps.
I mainly game on Xbox but run Linux exclusively on my PC. I am considering cancelling my Xbox Gamepass Ultimate sub but my kids also use it. That’s a tough one.
This is the same for me. I might have to move my kid’s console to PS5 and use their Game Pass equivalent.
Probably not the best advice considering the current economic situation but you could cut your losses and restart on Steam. Buy the games there and your kids can probably still do what they did on Xbox. You probably already know this but Steam has a Big Picture Mode which makes it more controller friendly and nicer for large TV displays. Keep a keyboard and mouse handy for when things need technical support.
I’m kind of done with my boycott era
Oh, so you were only doing it to be trendy? Weak.
Have some empathy, boycotting might inconvenience him.
Call it caring fatigue. There are causes that I care about and that I spend my time and energy on. But over the course of 2020-2025, every little thing-of-the-week issue that popped up demanded that I stop buying socks at target, or burritos at chipotle, canned beans or pens or video games or cloud services or t-shirts or shoes or plastic cups or what have you. I just don’t have it in me to pretend to care about everything that everybody else cares about all the time. I’m picking my 2-3 things and sticking with them

The only bad thing about switching to Linux is that you can old do it once.
(Ok, sure you could switch back to Windows and then back to Linux again but nobody does that…)

I feel like there’s a joke in here about Linux users propensity to distrohop being like a ritual reenactment of switching to Linux for the first time (without having to defile one’s computer with Windows again)

Keep Windows in a virtual machine where it can’t cause any trouble.

if you get someone else to switch then that counts too

This year presents a big opportunity for many of us to get user friendly Linux distros on family members’ PCs that are currently running win10 and not able to upgrade to 11.
I’m already a Linux Mint fan so that’s right where I’m headed.

Yeah, Nintendo don’t help Israel.

I switched back to Windows, because Mandrake was frustrating, but Ubuntu got me back a few years later. It helped that I was into Richard Stallman and the philosophy of free software. There were a few Linux supporters in the local punk scene, too.
