Maybe not the most appropriate to use a Stonetoss comic for that.

Why is that? I’m not familiar with them
Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 months ago
isn’t the whole point of it that you’re using their work to promote the very thing they hate?
todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 3 months ago
Because Nazis love LGBT pinkwashing?
Vespair@lemm.ee 3 months ago
Using a stonetoss comic is weird. Please just let this Nazi’s gross artwork fade into obscurity

Nazi cartoonist complains that corporations aren’t sincere in their support of LGBT communities. I’m sure his concerns are in good faith.
Kaboom@reddthat.com 3 months ago
It’s edited in case you didn’t realize that. Look at how the font changes in a couple places.

The last pride ad I saw talked about some statistics that only every third gay couple dares to hold hands in public and that this is awful that people can’t just be freely who they are without fearing attacks or hatred. And that this must be changed, etc. I think that was quite nice :))

Hmmm I think I remember seeing something similar at an airport once. I think it’s a good example of a company using their platform to spread a positive message.
Floshie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 months ago
maybe there is. sure the products are portraying the brand, but it’s also a way to normalize our colours in the public
yet they are still corpo so fuck them right ?
renzev@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Yeah, normalizing pride is a good thing. It’s also pretty funny when chuds lose their shit over “companies going woke” and the like, so I guess it’s not all bad.
Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 3 months ago
Hbomberguy has a fun video about that.
Korne127@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Yep. It is a good thing that pride is so mainstream that companies want to do stuff like that to profit off it. It’s much better than if all companies would make anti LGBTQ ads because that’s the most profitable thing. And it still promotes it and makes it more normal, which is super important to anti-stigmatise it as there still are many homophobic (young) people which this might actually influence and help to get more acceptive.

Still better than nothing
Stovetop@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Agreed. As much as I hate the commodification of pride, I’d rather live in a world where corporations are financially incentivised to pay lip service to LGBT rights and issues than financially disincentivised.

Good point. Maybe it’s good to see advertising not as a force of its own, but as an indicator of a culture’s values? Companies have been co-opting culture for marketing purposes for a really long time, and the fact that now they’re doing it with LGBT+ culture just shows that it’s no longer as stigmatized as it used to be

Corps use whatever is popular to try and appear modern. This happened with “girls in tech” also. They put some female developer out there to talk about her career, since its inspiring other females.
But the most important thing?
It doesn’t cost them anything and they don’t commit to any actions or results.
Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Fuck Stonetoss and fuck anyone amplifying them even if it’s in an ironic way.
renzev@lemmy.world 3 months ago
…and yet you’re the one publicizing the guy’s name? Who exactly is doing the “amplifying” here?
Vespair@lemm.ee 3 months ago
reads a Hitler speech outloud in public
“Hey could you maybe not read Hitler speeches in public?”
“Whoa guy which one of us said Hitler? Look at this guy promoting Hitler!”
Umm… okay.
PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Thats a pretty weak argument my dude.
todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 3 months ago
You are. Hope this helps.
JackbyDev@programming.dev 3 months ago
Why do you care about trying to keep the name secret when you’re using the comics lmao
eldavi@lemmy.ml 3 months ago
what did they do?
Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Being a Nazi and spreading disgusting Nazi ideology.
