right.
el pais has a halfway decent article that doesn’t list his war crimes on him: …elpais.com/…/ronald-johnson-trumps-hawk-in-mexic…

and accordingly so, they’re sending in ron johnson as ambassador to destabilize mexico to get her and her party out of office.
ron johnson is the guy who destabilized central america in the past and he was trained at the school of the americas.

Didn’t forget about the potato. Lol
- Comment on Mind your accents! 2 months ago:
i learned this the hard way when i tried text people in spanish that my father had a great time in the new years party and they were wondering what potatoes had to do with new anal sex experiences. lol
(“mi papa disfruta fiestas de ano nuevo” badly translates to “my potato enjoys new anal gangbangs” without the accents & other punctuation and translates to “my father enjoys the news years parties” with the proper punctuation)
- Comment on How can I migrate my current Lemmy profile to another lemmy instance? 2 months ago:
i had a similar thought and i think not trying to treat lemmy like it’s reddit is beneficial here; or at least to me.
- Comment on AI Models Falter Answering Election Questions in Spanish. 2 months ago:
it doesn’t to me.
the sheer number of american born spanish speakers alone is well past the critical level necessary for the type of full representation that other industries experience, but software engineering is stubbornly not budging so they’re going to IT.
i think that the closest thing there is to representation in software engineering is the over representation of foreign born spanish speakers; but they lack the experience of growing up as a minority in this country and that makes them predisposed to dismiss the difficulties we experience in life as well as trying to get a foothold into this industry.
- Comment on AI Models Falter Answering Election Questions in Spanish. 2 months ago:
i’m addressing the underlying issue behind llm’s and any other sort of ai; the software engineers who create and work on them come from a cultural paradigm that doesn’t include anything but a few languages and spanish isn’t one of them.
that results in strange behaviors like the one the article mentions here. other examples like face recognition issues is another manifestation of that paradigm.
- Comment on How can I migrate my current Lemmy profile to another lemmy instance? 2 months ago:
i switched instances without bothering to migrate and i’m wondering why you want to migrate anything.
- Comment on AI Models Falter Answering Election Questions in Spanish. 2 months ago:
mistranslations into spanish seemed common everywhere i’ve lived in the last 5 decades; california, new york, new jersey, texas, chicago; and it doesn’t seem to matter that there are plenty of fluent & native spanish speakers in all of those places.
i’m a software developer now and did IT for 15 years before that and it seemed clear to me that american-born native spanish speakers are rare in software engineering compared to IT. i think that this is the first time that my anecdotal evidence has been confirmed. (somehow foreign-born spanish speakers have even representation throughout this industry like most everyone else).
- Comment on Linus Torvalds reckons AI is ‘90% marketing and 10% reality’ 2 months ago:
Being on the other side of the interviewing table for the last 20ish years and being told that we’re not going to hire people that everyone unanimously loved and we unquestionably needed more times that I want to remember makes me think that blacklists are common.
In all of the cases I’ve experienced in the last decade or so: people who had faang and old silicon on their resumes but couldn’t do basic things like creating an ansible playbook from scratch were either an automatic addition to that list or at least the butt of a joke that pervades the company’s cool aide drinker culture for years afterwards; especially so in recruiting.
Yes they’ll eventually forget and I think it’s proportional to how egregious or how close to home your perceived misrepresentation is to them.
- Comment on Linus Torvalds reckons AI is ‘90% marketing and 10% reality’ 2 months ago:
Same here but this one was especially painful since it was the closest match with my experience I’ve ever encountered in 25 years and now I know that they will never give me the time of day again and; based on my experience in silicon valley; may end up on a thier blacklist permanently.
- Comment on Linus Torvalds reckons AI is ‘90% marketing and 10% reality’ 2 months ago:
watch out; i learned the hard way in an interview that i do this so much that i can no longer create terraform & ansible playbooks from scratch.
even a basic api call from scratch was difficult to remember and i’m sure i looked like a hack to them because of it.

- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 3 months ago:
i’m aware and fwiw; that’s where it’ll be implemented last since the people there are the biggest and best chance at pushing back against this successfully.
- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 3 months ago:
they exist and they usually suck compared to something like comcast or at&t; but they’re much better than a $500 internet bill because you went over your limit or paying considerably more for breaking the contract that you didn’t know you signed when you didn’t read the fine print.
- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 3 months ago:
money.
data caps are coming to home internet soon too and with inescapable hidden contracts; switch to an independent isp to avoid it before you’re entrapped into one.
- Comment on Linus Torvalds affirms expulsion of Russian maintainers 3 months ago:
in today’s political landscape: genocide is acceptable and ignorable; progressives are dirty commies that you should ignore at all costs; and being russian is enough to get you kicked out of contributions to FOSS and all this comes from people who call themselves “liberal”.

- Comment on A little essay I wrote about "mods are power tripping" 3 months ago:
a bigger dominant group will always encounter issues when trying to gentrify a neighborhood out it’s original inhabitants and this digital lemmy neigborhood; its original tankie inhabitants; and it’s reddit enshitification induced gentrifiers are no different.
several features of lemmyverse sustain are intended tankie audience and work against you like anti-homeless architecture if you try to dominate the discourse through banning/blocking/defederation. it’s sort of like a digital equivalent of anti-homeless-spikes or anti-homeless split public benches; but for people who try to power trip when enforcing moderate only views like most of these moderators and admins do.
martin luther king jr believed that moderates have “shallow understanding”](letterfromjail.com) and the reddit refugee’s desire to maintain that shallow understanding has shepherded them to self sort into mostly inactive echo chambers and the few active ones have censorship problems since those refugees have; effectively; cut themselves off from a majority of the communities and conversation on the lemmyverse.
i likewise have shallow understanding of the lemmyverse’s issues from a moderate’s perspective. i think i’m more tolerant of people with THOROUGHLY uninformed political views due to having immediate maga family members and i think that’s served me well accepting that i’m in a tankie safe space and adapting myself to thrive in it instead of trying to force the environment to suite me. those same family members have also taught me to accept when someone’s world views are so rigid that they simply can’t handle anything to the contrary, so i can accept that reddit liberals don’t want to talk to tankies and i hope that they can find something about this place to stay.
if they leave they’ll discover that no reddit diaspora has ever survived and the lemmyverse is in the best situation to survive if it can capitalize on the relatively huge user base bump and the political disposition of this particular diaspora. leaving means either going back to reddit or signing up with bluesky where future enshitification is already guaranteed and they’ll eventually go back looking for a new social media platform again as they are now.
- Comment on A little essay I wrote about "mods are power tripping" 3 months ago:
I think I made a mistake by bringing in the concept of power tripping mods.
you’re right to: a huge majority of the lemmyverse’s current userbase has self sorted themselves into a few instances that makes power tripping mods a real problem.
if they had embraced the lemmyverse in it’s original tankie spirit this would not be is a problem at all because the fediverse is design to keep the discourse going despite any block/ban/defederation; taking those actions only serves to remove yourself from the main group chat that everyone else can see. a power tripping mod has no power when you can easily side step them to continue participating in the discourse.
