Surely this cannot count as a booby trap

Booby traps are illegal even in the US. May as well just harm the officer.

Yeah, he’d have to keep them in his bra for that.

Personally I would assume the person who has me reaching into their pocket knowingly that I will injure myself quite substantially is doing so deliberately aka trying to harm me. So if you had those blades in your pocket without telling the officer that should count as a booby trap/assault on the officer.

The officer should have asked. That’s when you could tell him you don’t consent to a search. It’s a bad idea to do this for a lot of reasons but that’s not one of them.
If someone is searching through your pockets without your approval and against your wishes, they better hope they are right to do so and are taking all of the necessary precautions.
You’re not under any obligation to make the private contents of your pockets safe for other people to rifle through.

That grammar was rough, and so was your argument

In this case you’d be performing an illegal search and should not have your hands in their pockets. How could they know you were going to illegally search them? If they’re a law abiding citizen with razors in their pockets and you illegally search them, those cuts are on you.
Now, as for how this would play out in front of obviously corrupt police institutions — yeah you’d likely have evidence planted on you for pulling a stunt like this.

You’d have to be able to argue in court that you had some other reason for having loose razors in your pockets.
You would probably lose. I mean trust me I don’t like cops, but you totally lose.

Legality or lack thereof also doesn’t matter if they’re at the point where they’ll just force-feed you their Glock and throw your corpse into a lye pit in the woods.
Mirshe@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Why bother disposing of the corpse when they can just tell the media you were resisting arrest. Interesting fact: corpses can’t press charges.

Public stories attract ire and inquisitive noses. Having to put together a story (even a shallow lie) also implies that they have an obligation to answer to the public. They would prefer that not be the case, in fact they would rather questioning their work be a crime in and of itself.

“wait I have razor blades in my pockets. They were on clearance…”

That’s not a booby trap- those are his loose jimmies
