Money / social fallout. Every single time. Divorces are expensive, and so is therapy for your kids family structure loss trauma.

I agree that a lot of shows and movies, especially the more recent ones, have little rewatchability. You could always replace those with an armful of whatever is current and on your watchlist after you are done though.
And personally i have a couple of evergreens and classics i enjoy watching again now and then, and it is nice to know i always have something to watch even if i cant afford the subscription any more / the stuff i like gets region locked / fucking licensing pulls the rug. It also feels a little empowering to have my own stuff that really is just mine and nobody can revoke my viewing permissions, in the face of endless enshittification.
As for the media server, i am not tech savvy enough myself to run one so i just bought a large ass external drive. When i am away from home i just bring that thing and can watch my stuff on any computer and generally also tv i plug it into.

The key words here being “left with a library”. Your media, now and forever, at no additional cost, available whenever you want. I could not go back to netflix etc.

Personally I would assume the person who has me reaching into their pocket knowingly that I will injure myself quite substantially is doing so deliberately aka trying to harm me. So if you had those blades in your pocket without telling the officer that should count as a booby trap/assault on the officer.

Not really, but it sounds like your family should rather sell that cabin and spend their money on more importsbt things.

I mean, the way I read it is “not a day goes by on which I am not regretting doing this”. So, every day you are regretting it 🤔

So you regret it every day? GOS is amazing in my opinion. What’s your gripe with it?

The key is conveyor belt placement mode, you gotta set it to straight. That, and foundations to have everything aligned and level.

Even beyond that, the “complex” language they claim is confusing is the whole point of Wikipedia. Neutral, precise language that describes matters accurately for laymen. There are links to every unusual or complex related subject and even individual words in all the articles.
I find it disturbing that a major share of the userbase is supposedly unable to process the information provided in this format, and needs it dumbed down even further. Wikipedia is already the summarized and simplified version of many topics.

It would be the ultimate irony if the ai horseshit is giving nfts a renaissance, which are the previous iteration of tech horseshit.
- Comment on What would it take to make Gemini suitable to be president of the world? 1 month ago:
- The singularity happening
- it (the machine consciousness) by some twist of fate being belevolent towards us
- we, by another twist of fate, are unable or unwilling to destroy it out of ignorance
- the stars align and we allow it to become involved in governance and administration
And then it still needs to be able to dismantle capitalism to allocate resources efficiently and where needed and not hoarded to increase the power of a select few.

I think it is a great compromise between defederation and being more palatable to less extremely minded people. Anyone who wants to can still unblock the instances, and this way their users at least get to show up in outside communities and posts for everyone.

Seriously where on earth is your boyfriend from that he doesn’t know rain? That seems absurd, I’m sure even old school desert bedouins are familiar with the concept.

If the ability to make your own feed without much defederation behind the scenes so to say I’d recommend lemmy.zip as an alterative. When I made my account I specifically looked for an instance that would defederate only illegal and mega fucked up shit like cp and gore. This instance offers that, and is federated with almost everyone.

Dude people on the phone when they shouldn’t is one of my pet peeves, I hate it so much. Especially because it makes me feel racist sometimes, since apparently the threshold of shame is a lot lower to just video call on speaker in public when people assume their surroundings don’t understand the conversation.
So many non white germans not giving a fuck about these things, makes me want to learn all these languages so I can embarrass the people by understanding their private talks. Honestly I think that’s the root cause, I can’t imagine that being customary in their places of origin.
As for the people who use their phone at the cinema, I have to seriously fight the urge to throw my 20 bucks concession stand coke at them.

I have maybe a handful of people on lemmy tagged, if that. That means, those where the most stupid, ignorant, obnoxious, disingenious people, or otherwise not worth of serious discourse, to the point i felt it necessary to remember that with a tag.
Now this guy i have put down as “that weird guy who really loves corporations”. Make of that what you want for your conversation.
