It is a bit more nuanced than that, AFAIK they added female versions of a specific subset of human military, which for all this time were explicitly male with various lore reasons supporting that fact.
I’m not involved on the hobby myself but went on the occasional lore reading spree on the wikis, as s disclaimer. But I can understand that fans are upset about retcons such as this, where there wasn’t much ambiguity in the lore to squeeze the change in, making it a pretty hard lore break
- Comment on Reddit locks down its public data in new content policy, says use now requires a contract 1 week ago:
Back when i left reddit after the 3pa fiasco I used a browser side script to sift through all my comments and posts, edit them to a fuck spez message, and then delete. Made the whole process very convenient.
It is called power delete suite

100% where we are headed with this backwards capitalist approach to ai. Make bots churn out art, films, music, anything creative really, so the proles have more time for mindless manual labor
- Comment on Men over 30, what do you keep in your bedside nightstand? 1 week ago:
Just my phone pretty much. I dont need my glasses to find my way to the bathroom in the morning, and I dont wake up in the middle of the night to drink water, if anything I wake up prematurely because I need to take a whiz. And then I can take a couple sips from the bathroom sink if I am thirsty.

Well, yeah, that’s why we’re here. Streaming went to shit
While I agree that the monopoly netflix once had doesn’t belong in private hands, a public funded central media archive where all studios release their content would be preferable.
But still, for the user those were golden times. Whatever you wanted to watch, chances were Netflix had it in good quality and any language you wanted on any device with internet.

Streaming went to shit when everyone made their own. It was good and worth the money when it was one portal with everything available.
Now i am back navigating the stormy high seas, to avoid the treacherous shores of bankruptcy

Who needs economic exploitation only, if you can have physical exploitation too? 🥰
- Comment on Video of Chinese Manager Beating African Workers Sparks Racism Debate 1 week ago:
How is this news to anyone? I saw this regard exact same scenario on a bootleg phone video about a decade ago, when China first started pushing for influence in Africa. A Chinese foreman whipping and beating his african workers like a Ku Klux Klan plantation owner before the civil war.
Asians are super racist, especially towards black people. But because that isnt fitting into the tankie narrative it gets downvoted anytime someone alludes to this fact, at least it happened any time and tried. Even got a ban from .ml for it irrc
- Comment on [Serious] Any high-quality right-wing media, books, explainers? 2 weeks ago:
Yup that’s him. A Russian ultra nationalist who essentially wrote a game plan for Russia to dismantle the liberal world order of the west, and was/is highly popular in russian political and military leadership. Many of his suggestions are part of russian doctrine today (like the notion that Ukraine has no cultural identity or value and should be taken over). Quite eye opening.

I think people piloting drones is just an intermediate step, there isnt some huge demand for drone pilots in the future. As soon as it is feasible that task will be relegated to computers, be it truly autonomous drones or centrally controlled by a guidance system.

Do people also view kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species as “ranks” of some sort, with some intrinsically greater value being given to some over others?
Well, for humans we most certainly do

- Comment on giving out food bags to employees 4 weeks ago:
I cant remember the last time I went to an actual restaurant, that shit is way too expensive these days. I also dont live in America, and we have only a rudimentary tipping culture in comparison, but it is being pushed more and more because it’s cheaper for the bosses. And I hate it.
- Comment on giving out food bags to employees 4 weeks ago:
Goes for tipping too. Fuck you, pay fair. Dont ask me to support your staff with charity.

- Comment on There's a baby drought in Australia. Maybe we should fund IVF? 4 weeks ago:
Not an Australian but I bet good money it is the exact same reason as everywhere else in the west: people have no time, no money, no social services, and really bad future perspectives with the ecosystem going to shit and capitalism running the world into the ground.
People need time to raise kids, people need money to afford kids, kids need education and attention. Provide those things, and provide a not-bleak perspective for the future, and people will be happy to have kids again.
- Comment on Is there a more politically and ideologically diverse alternative for Lemmy? 4 weeks ago:
It’s almost like I need to choose a team and then subscribe to the ideologies of that team when in reality I’m more of a pick and choose type of person.
This sums up my feelings lately very nicely. I’d say I am generally well aligned with the culture on here, and share most leftist views. However there are certain topics, and even just sub aspects of certain topics, that will net you a lot of downvotes very quick and condescending proselytizing comments if you even slightly differ from the general consensus in your views.
I’m not sure what could be done about this though, I certainly dont want Lemmy to be more welcoming towards alt right bullshit and such. But talking with a bunch of queer leftists about queer leftist things all the time is like that old south park episode where the parents become pretentious wine snobs and start getting high on their own farts. Boring, pointless self aggrandizement.

But if you put them in jail you can dehumanize them and legitimize their treatment, they are now criminals after all. You also can’t put them to work for slave wages without causing a social uproar.

As someone who went through the application system to join my instance, it is really not that bad. Just have your potential users write a few sentences on their lemmy history, why they want to join your instance and what content they are looking for.
This can be answered in a few minutes, but it is already enough to discourage almost all bad faith applicants. The few hours of wait period while you check their application for copy pasting are also contributing to deter them, simply because spam users often want to do some mischief right now, waiting until tomorrow doesn’t work well for those impulses.

That seems short sighted, for example the very popular voyager client doesn’t show any profile pictures. I wasn’t even aware those are a thing. I dont want one either though.

- Comment on Germany: 'Groped' female statues highlight sexual harassment 5 weeks ago:
Its a statue. People like touching statues in odd places, take pictures with them that go way beyond what is acceptable to do with a real person. This isnt sexual harassment, what the fuck. It is an inanimate piece of metal.
