Hey, I’ll let you know that I’m a judgmental asshole and I happen to be french, but I don’t hate the world, only the parts that aren’t french

“Judgmental asshole who hates the world” and “French” are a bit redundant

Tiens tiens tiens well I happen to be French as well and I have already judged you (I hate you because you probably are on the wrong side of the chocolatine/pain au chocolat debate)
Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago

And this is the moment I realized that German “tja” (“well”) probably comes from French “tiens” even though I’ve had five years of French in school.
TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 month ago
My understanding is french is the most Germanic of the romance languages, so I’d guess it came to them both from an older Germanic language
barsoap@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Unlikely as many Germanic languages have it, with similar meanings. It’s a variant of “ja”, yes. Add a bit of laconicy and you can make “Well.” a sentence in itself.

What’s your opinion on Bretons, Ocintians, and French Walloons? Choose thine answer… wisely.
Irelephant@lemm.ee 1 month ago
And paris, from what I’ve heard.
Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 month ago
That very much depends on whether they’re a Parisian or not. Though even if they’re Parisian it’s still 50/50.

Not every judgmental asshole who hates the world is french.
Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
Quebec here. Can confirm, bitch.
drolex@sopuli.xyz 1 month ago
Yeah OK I’ll need a source for that
inlandempire@jlai.lu 1 month ago
It’s a venn diagram where french is fully inside the circle
return_void@programming.dev 1 month ago
I’m french and your representation is oversimplifying and not even close to grabbing the complexity of the real world
inlandempire@jlai.lu 1 month ago
Oui ça s’appelle l’humour mdr

So many fucking French here. Don’t you have baguettes to put somewhere where the sun never shines and white flags to weave? I know I have
Sunsofold@lemmings.world 1 month ago
So many people on lemmy seem to not be the types to hate based on nationality, except for this. The only nationalities I have seen attacked on here are Trumpicans and the French. Trumpicans at least are an ideology, but what is happening with the French that makes them the exception?
postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 1 month ago
French is a spectrum?
