FB/Instagram is a for-profit ad-driven platform that relies on fearmongering to keep you addicted to the platform. Keeping yourself addicted to a platform like that and destroying your mental health with it doesn’t help anyone.

I use Ironfox also mainly for the plugins. I have the personal stuff on my phone over Tor since I don’t want to pay for a VPN, and I’ve noticed that Ironfox is a lot slower than Vanadium/Cromite for that setup.

If all of the web engines enshittify, you can always
curlthe HTML/CSS/JS and hand-parse it. Might have suboptimal performance however. - Comment on YSK that Stanford scientists examined what happens when people stop using social media. Lemmy is a lot less addictive for me than personalized algorithm-driven TikTok/Reels/Shorts type stuff and has better quality content, but there’s also a lot less content. I blocked Instagram and other apps on my phone and now I ended up on YT shorts on my computer also

I host my main server on my own hardware, and a VPN on Hetzner because my shitty ISP doesn’t let me port forward. For the past year, bots were hitting my Forgejo instance hard. I forgot to disable registration and they generated hundreds of accounts with hundreds of repos with sketchy links, generating terrabytes of traffic from my VPS, costing me money in traffic. I disabled registration and deleted the spam, and bots still kept hitting my server for several months, which would cause memory leaks over time and crash it, and still costed me money with terrabytes of traffic per month. A few weeks ago, I put Anubis on the VPS. Now, zero bots hit my Forgejo instance and I don’t pay for their traffic anymore. Problem solved.

It might taste better if you cook it from scratch yourself and add a ton of spices/flavors or something
- Comment on YSK tricks for one of the cheapest meals: beans and rice 1 month ago:
I’m trying 1/8 tsp salt, 1 tsp maple syrup, and 1 tsp vanilla, and it doesn’t really help. Although oat milk instead of soy milk improves the taste a little (especially after Costco got rid of the sweetened soy milk version). Using frozen bananas/blueberries turns it into brown gunk when it’s ready to eat. Toast + toppings is probably a good idea.
- Comment on YSK tricks for one of the cheapest meals: beans and rice 1 month ago:
Any suggestions for relatively inexpensive breakfasts, or do people also eat beans/rice? I’ve been eating overnight oats, but they aren’t filling at all and taste terrible (and a lot of recipes have ingredients that oxidize weirdly overnight that I’ve tried eliminating). Tofu scramble takes a long time to prep, there’s not enough freezer space between my roommates and I for meal prep, and my apartment has tons of restrictions they’ve gone after me for, so can’t use a second freezer or instant pot. I’ve been eating beans/vegetables + rice + salsa for dinner though and that works well and is always filling (maybe I should switch to brown rice from what I’m reading in this thread).

I agree with this criticism, but the entire English language is full of bullshit so you might as well consider using Esperanto

- Comment on Spotify to raise prices in September 3 months ago:
The ones I’ve noticed so far were somewhere in between metal, hyperpop, and generally chaotic electronic music. Specifically:
- DEATHWISH by poutyface
- MONSTER ENERGY GUN! by KevinKempt
- PIN CUSHION by Siiickbrain Also:
- Little Game by Benny
- mi tawa lon pimeja ni
There’s a bunch of others that I haven’t looked through yet. I downloaded a list of songs from my Tidal library with soundiiz so I should do the same with Qobuz then do a diff.
- Comment on Spotify to raise prices in September 4 months ago:
I just switched from Tidal to Qobuz and when using Soundiiz like 1/4 of my songs didn’t transfer, and when I look songs up a lot of them aren’t there at all. The personalized playlist is also disappointing in my experience, so I’m considering switching back.
