I don’t need to ignore any facts about communism or socialism because I didn’t bring them up and they are immaterial to this conversation. I don’t know why you even brought that up here.
Its a very complex topic, but honestly also self evident if you look around. The successful EU/Scandinavian countries who are “capitalist” are also falling into fascism as we speak. The only reason they held it off so long was laws that inhibit capitalism from doing as much damage as it wants to.
The system of capitalism encourages (almost demands) antisocial, sociopathic behaviour to emerge. The ultimate result of this is always the same.
This is too big of a topic to start an explanation from scratch in this thread. But it’s also something that is very well discussed online and written about a lot. This isn’t my idea personally.

The argument is that capitalism directly and basically infallibly leads to fascism. It’s not supposed to, but it’s a consistent emergent behaviour of the system.

You are coming at this with econ 101 level understandings.
The people you’re arguing against here know the text book definition of capitalism.
The issue is you are talking about some kind of “Adam Smith capitalism” but everyone else is using the term to mean what it actually is in practice.
If you want to understand this point of view, the quickest way is to read Marx.

You are getting down voted because you should read Marx before commenting about capitalism on Lemmy haha.

Lmao, as a long time player, you really got me on the “turning my cards sideways for 2 seconds” part. It really is like that.
I would never throw someone into a group setting to play like that on their first time. Total madness.
The game was originally designed to be played 1v1 and group play was meant to spice that up by adding chaos and leading to wildly complex scenarios.

OP, read up on the fall of Rome and how it all went down. It’s pretty likely we will see the fall of America in our lifetime.

Europeans are always like “we’re bad too”. When your country has probably done what like 1, maybe 2 large scale war crimes. Let us have this one /s

Likely less than 1% of boomers were hippies. They call it “counter culture” for a reason.
What most people would consider “hippies” consisted of a pretty small group of people mostly living in California.
A larger and much less genuine movement came later when John Lennon decided to appropriate hippy fashion. But that’s all it was (fashion).
People who truly held core values like “peace, free love and compassion” were absolutely not the majority but they were loud and colorful and now we remember that period of time as being overrun with hippies.

Yeah I’ve heard few different intersting takes. I think most people agree the expression is mechanical like you said.
This is just my impression. It’s the lighting more than anything that makes me feel this way. The painting seems to be illuminating the devourer in a way that suggests he might be seeing his own act for the first time himself.

Yeah, I’ve always seen Goya’s version (if this is even Saturn at all) to be an inversion or some kind of commentary on the original theme. There are a few famous paintings of this scene from before Goya’s time.
If anything it feels to me that Saturn was in the darkness doing this act but now there is a bright and sudden light being shown on him and he is shocked or ashamed. Almost like he has possibly “snapped out” of the state he was just in and is now maybe seeing what he has done for the first time himself.
- Comment on Cheeto devouring his nation 3 days ago:
Fair point. I guess it would be better to say that there isn’t much to learn about in terms of hard facts.
- Comment on Cheeto devouring his nation 3 days ago:
Yeah he didn’t even actually name this painting. We really don’t know who the subjects are for sure.
- Comment on Cheeto devouring his nation 3 days ago:
Part of this art is that there really are no “facts”. It was painted on the wall of his home some time before his death but wasn’t found before he died. He never gave it a name or said anything about it.
- Comment on Cheeto devouring his nation 3 days ago:
Imo in this original painting Saturn is horrified either to be doing this at all, or to be seen doing it.
So I don’t think the poetry transfers to trump here.
I know this is shit posts but we’re also discussing high art so…

Idk if most software developers know this is what they should be doing and ignore it completely or if they just don’t know.
There are so, so many reasons to do this.
But I don’t think this really happens very often in the real world because it’s not the shortest line from A to B.

To be fair that’s not really true. Gatekeeper is deeply integrated into the OS and is extremely strict.
As opposed to windows, macOS will effectively refuse to run any software that is not signed and notarized by Apple themselves.
I’m not a fan of this behaviour but that’s the way it is.
