Yesterday I asked an LLM “how much energy is stored in a grand piano?” It responded with saying there is no energy stored in a grad piano because it doesn’t have a battery.
Any reasoning human would have understood that question to be referring to the tension in the strings.
Another example is asking “does line cause kidney stones?”. It didn’t assume I mean lime the mineral and went with lime the citrus fruit instead.
Once again a reasoning human would assume the question is about the mineral.
Ask these questions again in a slightly different way and you might get a correct answer, but it won’t be because the LLM was thinking.

Allowing fdroid from to come from the play store is NOT a solution by any means. Users should have the right to never touch the play store or agree to googles TOS.

I recently started carrying a GPD microPC because of this bullshit.
It’s like a very bulky phone. Pocketable but kinda chonk. Thumb typing kinda thing.
But it runs Fedora + gnome with no problems.
My phone is now just for quick stuff and a way to make a WiFi hotspot.

Yeah that was part of the joke. Guess it didn’t leave well.
- Comment on I 3d printed a custom sized keyboard using open source software and hardware designs. 5 days ago:
Lol ok. First off, that wasn’t mean.
Second, it was an opinion.
Third, it was a joke.
To explain the joke, keyboards with less keys than this exist and it’s a common meme for people to comment “not enough keys” when people share images of them.
Thought this was a keyboard community. Didn’t realize it was 3d printing.

You can install a full Linux distro now. At a high level it’s basically like WSL2 for windows.
I had to do professional software development work on one at one point. It was completely cursed but it worked.

Idk that Chromebooks count as being super locked down when most of them can run Linux apps.

Hmm that sounds interesting.
I’d say to message me on discord and we can talk about it more but I don’t think Lemmy supports DMS? Or maybe it’s just my app.
Either way I don’t really want to dox myself on this account so idk haha.
- Comment on Do you actually audit open source projects you download? 1 week ago:
Depends on what you mean by “audit”.
I look at the GitHub repo.
- How many stars?
- Last commit?
- Open issues
- Contributer count
Do I read the whole code base? Of course not. But this is way more than I can do with closed source software.

- Comment on Trump says a 25% tariff "must be paid by Apple" on iPhones not made in the US, says he told Tim Cook long ago that iPhones sold in the US must be made in the US 2 weeks ago:
I wonder if he knows apple simply can not comply with this. Apple doesn’t know how to make iPhones (at the scale and rate needed) and no one in the US does either.
RIP

You can say whatever you want but people are going to judge you for it.
Most people here prefer to use inclusive language that doesn’t make anyone feel unwelcome.
People with actual mental deficiencies exist on Lemmy and it may or may not hurt them to use words like this.
If it hurts even one good person then it’s probably just worth increasing your vocabulary to avoid that.
Not too mention imo suggesting someone is actually “retarded” means they should be treated with understanding and patience. People who are deliberately ignorant don’t deserve that patience.

I don’t understand why a VPN needs special software to work honestly but I guess that’s valid. It’s likely it would “work” in wine but idk if it will be able to do what it needs to.

I’m not really talking about LLMs or ML in general. I’m talking about capitalism and enshitification.
I use LLMs every day from the comfort of my Linux systems.

What networking program? If it’s not some proprietary protocol I bet there is a Linux tool that does it.
