I can totally understand, the American example would be.
As a kid you are told about Santa Clause and his little helper elfs.
Now that you are an adult you have learned that the elves are actually bases on slaves and the color of their skin is als based on that.
To you it’s just an elf and you never associated them with history or slavery. If fact as a kid you are told they have this color from the chimney.
So in reality both are true, people that grew up with zwarte Piet are not necessarily racist, but the entire tradition is based on historical context and therefore racist.

I’m not from Japan, I’m from Europe. I understand how fucked up the US is for regular hard working people. That is why those people should be paid a living wage, not depend on the kindness of people tipping. This entire system needs to be replaced, and it can start from either the government or people refusing to tip. If people stop tipping wages are going up, or restaurants basically can’t find people willing to do it anymore.

Thank god in the Netherlands we first have to have the zwartepieten discussie.
For anyone out of the loop this is a tradition that is changing but some boomers get really mad about changing it.

I’m just going to say it, I kind of like her Christmas song, just hearing it once or twice around Christmas is fine (for me).
I don’t listen to radio or watch (cable) TV, so I don’t get bombarded with Christmas songs. It’s like one of those hipster beers with ingredients like strawberry short cake, in small doses it’s fine.

Go to the govt? Really? In Japan there is no tipping culture, in fact a tip is seen as an insult. Do you really think that has anything to do with their government? Well maybe the exception is that the US allows this BS by not having a decent minimum wage for any job.
Second you completely ignore parts of my response, so if you need to tip the full amount, why is is fair to tip lower at a cheaper restaurant? These people work just as hard.
But let’s go even deeper, you say I’m selfish because these people provide a service? So what? My mailman provides a service, the roadworker that fixed the road I use every day provides a service? Why is tipping even a thing? I need to pay extra for someone doing the job they got hired for?

Just so you know when they say invitro that means in a petri dish, maybe a better example than a gun is bleach, yeah it works against any virus, but it will also kill you.

The thing about it costs about the same as Spotify is not really true. I have been using Spotify family for a long long time (maybe 10 years). I use it with 5 other “family” members and we split the costs.

I don’t really follow this reasoning, so a drink cost X but you calculate Y because at other times it costs Y.
So if you go to a cheap restaurant you increase your tip because the restaurant next door has higher prices? The staff in the cheap restaurant works just as hard, maybe harder.
This whole tip thing need to die ASAP. If everybody just stopped tipping staff would get a normal pay or a better paying other job. But if you don’t tip, how do you show appreciation?? Well, do you tip your wife when she does something nice for you?? No, so people can show appreciation without money.

Wait so you get scammed but still give 20% tips? This would be an automatic 0% tip

This is what everyone I know that had one told me. The operation was not that bad, maybe a 5/10 on pain. The days after my ballsack was getting really purple blue and parts of my penis also. After about a week I went to a doctor to make sure this was “normal”, he said everything looked ok, but I’m just unlucky as for most guys it is almost painless. About 10 days after things got better in a couple of days.
I don’t want to scare anyone but going in thinking it will not hurt is not for everyone. For me thinking it shouldn’t hurt (while it did) made me worry much more, thinking they might have messed something up.

Meh, it’s definitely not 100% chance of success. Every year that passes reduces the chance of a succes to reverse it. Also there is always a risk for other complications like ending up with erectile dysfunction, the chance is really small, but I wouldn’t take it too lightly. Mine also hurt like hell for a week and everything was purple blue. I’m probably the exception, but I definitely don’t want to do it a second time.

My local gas station now has screens on the pump. Not the big unit, but the part you put in your gastank. It shows shitty ads. Also in the Netherlands you can’t lock the gas pump, so you have to manually press it to get more fuel, so you are almost forced to watch shitty ads.
It’s exactly like this team-bhp.com/…/ads-fuel-dispenser-nozzle-havent-s…

I also had the Nexus 6P, great phone, loved it. Had some phones after that, but a few years ago I “upgraded” to a Pixel 6 Pro. That phone was a lot shittier in many ways, like no headphone jack or SD slot. But also Googles own software felt kind of buggy. My Nexus had very little problems with USBC but my Pixel somehow was a magnet to dust. I needed to do a tooth pick cleanup every other month.

I would say make sure people have a clear way of becoming legal immigrants. If they are legal, make sure the labor laws are enforced. So no paying under minimum wage, make sure the workplace is a safe place, etc.

- Comment on Your TV Is Spying On You 2 months ago:
The article states that’s what the privacy policy sais samsung can sample every 500ms and LG every 10ms. It doesn’t really mean they are, but it’s definitely possible. A very basic way of detecting content is to take a 1000 pixels evenly spaced out over the screen and store the color values. That gives you something you can match against a database. You don’t need to process a 4K screenshot for this.

Thats true, I once had to repair my washing machine and I could only find 1 video about the same model and same repair. It was a large Russian man that I could not understand (this was before auto generated subtitles).
Anyways, I just looked at the video and copied everything he did and I fixed my machine.

Yeah true, but these are more business to business. RHEL support is pretty expensive, and in my experience Oracle support (maybe not really open source) is both terrible and ridiculously expensive. Maybe this will create a market for more consumer like support. Maybe that could even create new business models for open source software.
