I’m not sure, maybe Lemmy will never really become mainstream
- Comment on Tesla Cybertruck May Have A Rust Problem 9 months ago:
Musk said something like they used a revolutionary new type of stainless steel, designed for spaceX rockets. Have you ever seen rust in space? No because it’s that revolutionary.

- Comment on FLOSS communities right now 9 months ago:
Open source communities have been around longer than the internet, so they can manage fine without discord.
- Comment on Microsoft sneaks ads into the new Outlook for Windows 9 months ago:
One thing I like is that it runs on Linux, so outlook isn’t an option for me anyway.
I tried other mail clients but most of them don’t work with exchange servers (and 2FA)
- Comment on Microsoft sneaks ads into the new Outlook for Windows 9 months ago:
I pay for a plugin so I can use Thunderbird with the exchange server (and 2FA) my office has. Best purchase in a long time, I think it’s like a dollar a month or something, pretty cheap.

- Comment on YouTube is slowing down for users with ad blockers in new wave 10 months ago:
Too be honest I was fine with seeing an ad every few videos. But at some point it became unskippable ads before , during and after a video.

Also I’d rather wait without ads than wait with ads, like what’s the point?
- Comment on EU antitrust chief to Tim Cook: Apple must allow third-party app stores 10 months ago:
I was going to say something similar, if you use the play Store you’re about as safe as you use the Apple app Store. They do the same kind of checks. Some apps that are allowed I would not personally install as I consider them spyware (like TikTok or anything by Meta).
You should always be considerate what you Install, if you Install a video call app that needs camera permission fine, if you Install a digital clock app that needs camera permission not fine at all.

I once had a phone with a replaceable battery, headphone jack and IR blaster (so it was also my TV remote), SD slot.
I feel after this we gained waterproof phones.
(although I only once dropped my phone in water and it was before waterproof phones and it still worked 48 hours later).
Anyway I feel we just got downhill after this phone, my current pixel has no: headphone jack, IR blaster, SD slot, replaceable battery, etc.
I wonder what wonder what would happen when a major smartphone maker would make a phone with all those features again.

Is that even enough for a single LED to turn on?
- Comment on Al Gore To Leave Apple Board After 21-Year Run; Company Reveals CEO Tim Cook’s Pay Dropped 36% In 2023 After Shareholder Pressure 10 months ago:
About 50% of Apple revenue comes from iPhones. So if an iphone sells less then expected it’s a big impact on the company and stock price. The iPhone 15 was OK, but not innovative or interesting enough for people to ditch the previous one and get a new phone.
Also investors really look at future growth, so when the main product they sell shows signs that the end of growth has been reached they are not happy.
In reality the only thing that has unlimited growth is cancer, I just like to add this…
- Comment on Apple’s rejection of Hey calendar app revives an old feud 10 months ago:
There are more Android users than Apple users worldwide. Lots of them are not very tech savvy, but they don’t get tricked into installing random apps. You can’t even do that unless you go into settings and enable third-party app installs. I don’t think it’s really a big problem like you think it is

Just a small warning, I just played around with civit. Tried to make some Images, also wanted to try to make some nsfw images. Anyway be really careful what you prompt, I accidentally generated some images with very young people I never intended.
- Comment on Japan determines copyright doesn't apply to LLM/ML training data 10 months ago:
So if AI companies pay for a book or music (like a consumer) it’s no problem? Because I don’t think this is about paying for content, it’s that content holders refuse to work with AI companies.
- Comment on Japan determines copyright doesn't apply to LLM/ML training data 10 months ago:
If you read a book you can talk about it, quote it, draw characters from that book, write your own ending, etc.
Isn’t that kind of the same? Let’s say some day we have an AI with near human intelligence, why can’t the AI be trained on copyright works, just like humans, all our school books are copyrighted works?
- Comment on Microsoft is adding a new key to PC keyboards for the first time since 1994 10 months ago:
Yeah that’s unacceptable. You can probably fix it in software but still unacceptable.
On my mechanical keyboard, I mapped my most used programs to de F butttons, with the Ctrl+Alt+F key combination. At work we have a pretty good quality printer, so I printed the icons and taped it above the keys. It’s a little janky but it works really well.

- Comment on ...So I Finally Quit Spotify 10 months ago:
Unlike Disney, Netflix, etc, Spotify is the only streaming service where I never think oh this is missing let’s find a torrent.
Music streaming (at least for the consumer) is so much better than video. Where it’s super scattered over multiple services all wanting money.
