- Comment on France runs fusion reactor for record 22 minutes 2 weeks ago:
I was just making an abstract sci-fi joke based on how cold fusion has been presented like a Holy Grail in the past. Obviously a better source of energy isn’t going to solve all our problems, no matter how good it is.

Maybe if it runs longer, we all get to jump to a better timeline. 😅

Yeah, it’s probably those conflicts of interest I had in mind.

I could have sworn at least 3 of the companies he pretends to run were under investigation by different agencies.
- Comment on Opinion | A.I. Is Coming for Hank Azaria’s ‘Simpsons’ Voices 3 weeks ago:
I thought the tech for imitating voices was already essentially available. There are cases of fraud that have been based on this.

- Comment on They Exposed an Israeli Spyware Firm. Now the Company Is Badgering Them in Court. 9 months ago:
Yes NSO, keep on claiming you’re innocent until proven guilty of targeting journalists… because every single person you want to dox/harass is automatically guilty of being a “terrorist” and none are innocent citizens. The burden of proof goes on the accused unless they’re you, apparently.
I’m curious if it’s not just because they can count on judge/jury bias in their favour but because of warped legal expectations like this that they want the trials in Israel so badly.
- Comment on Vanguard takes screenshots of your PC every time you play a game 10 months ago:
There should be laws against this everywhere (with other forms of data collection included). There’s no way preventing cheating is more important than the fundamental rights to security and privacy.

Usually, but I’m conscious of that and limit what they can get where I can for now.
- Comment on As a long-time user hearing YouTube wants to play ads when I pause a video 10 months ago:
I was already blocking ads since long ago, so what really bugs me now is the heavily degraded and incredibly off-putting search results these days. (Fixed that godawful UI change right away too, and I’m just not over having to use an outside search engine for accurate results.)
- Comment on The startup offering free toilets and coffee for delivery workers — in exchange for their data 10 months ago:
Yeah that phrasing was especially egregious.
- Comment on Please hold 10 months ago:
When I did that work, they encouraged everyone to put people on hold when looking anything up because it reset your call timer and made the numbers look better.

The image looks like our distant ancestor there is crawling in from another dimension, the way the water still encloses its body so high up… or at least like it portaled over from a deep ocean part of the ocean floor.

Romaine says you’d better keep sewage runoff out of its water supply, if you know what’s good for you.
- Comment on Zionists doing a rave to block aid trucks at Ker Shalom crossing while Palestinians are starving 1 year ago:
It’s part of Israel’s propaganda to make this about religion to invoke irrational “War on Terror” sentiments in people who haven’t looked into it that deeply.
In reality, they’re dehumanizing and targeting all Palestinian Arabs, including Christians. Hence the shooting up and bombing of churches along with everything else.
- Comment on One of capitalisms biggest tragedies 1 year ago:
Interesting point. This is consistent with a “Corporate Feudalism” chart I saw recently (and am still digesting/making up my mind on), which puts central bank heads, and then major bank heads at the top two places in the power hierarchy. Corporate CEOs (who might see benefit from a more educated work force) are in 3rd place. World leaders are 4th.

- Comment on Back in my day 1 year ago:
Oh my goodness, I remember for some reason people kept giving or lending my parents all these long play VHS tapes full of movies. Random video mix tapes where you didn’t know what you’d get next. Now and then some of them had kid movies (like the Sesame Street movie, Follow That Bird and there was at least one muppet movie), but most of them were PG and occasionally R-rated stuff, and I still watched it (except the R-rated stuff, but thankfully they were mostly pretty tame as I recall). I think my fave childhood movie was always on TV though: The Goonies.

A while back, there was this thing where some very out of touch landlords were whining about having to actually do things for their tenants and that tenants should tip them for this. Naturally, they were rightfully shamed and ridiculed for it and it never caught on.

Sounds like you mean South &/or Southeast Asia and not East Asia (or perhaps just Asia in general rather than subdividing)? Within Asia, injury/fatality rates seems to increase as you go westward.
- Comment on The Aliens did a little trolling 1 year ago:
I was once among a group of (fellow) university-educated expats, during a stint living abroad in the 2000s. While we were socializing, somebody asked everyone to say what group of people they would make disappear. (I can’t remember if it was kill/erase/nuke/remove from a map that was said, but something along those lines.) People’s answers that day (and their insistence that I, too, should “jokingly” hate some group of people and want them to die) taught me a lot. On top of that, I also am part of one of the groups that was named (no, I am not mixed race-- it was just ignorance the guy’s part).

- Comment on Pfizer says it will price Covid treatment Paxlovid at nearly $1,400 for a five-day course, which researchers estimate only costs Pfizer $13 to produce. That's a 10,000%+ markup. Shameful. 1 year ago:
So many Martin Shkrelis out there pricing drugs to the highest level they can get away with. Every big pharmaceutical company does this kind of thing, especially with new drugs.
