Straight up child abuse. Fuck…
Every once in a while I still spot someone smoking with kids in the car. That shit makes me irate.

Born in early 90’s. We were still saying “non” to the first question that was asked entering a restaurant.

Yeah, I think I saw that post.
Lots of “it’s OK when we do it” sentiment.
I’ve noticed the majority (or at least the vocal ones) don’t really stand on principles such as free speech. And I don’t mean as in a “free speech” Lemmy instance. I mean in terms of inalienable rights.
To many here, things like that are only for the “good” people, as determined by them.

iOS friends, check out the Mastodon client Ice Cubes.
It’s free and it’s very good IMO.

I’m too tired to hash that out with you.

I moved from Twitter to Mastodon when Elon bought Twitter. I think what you saw on Mastodon was a product of what you were following (people and hashtags).
The other nice thing happening somewhat recently is that I can follow Bluesky (through a bridge) and Threads (some accounts now, more as federation between the platforms matures).
Not being able to follow the brands you want is just a symptom of them not being on these platforms yet. I follow a few news outlets, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kagi search, Vivaldi browser, Cloudflare, Mozilla, The Internet Archive, etc.
I’m hoping more show up on these platforms with time and that BS and Threads actually do integrate more fully with Mastodon.
- Comment on What's Mastodon precious? 1 month ago:
I’ll be more excited about that when they start allowing larger federated instances.
I haven’t read a ton about it, I have to admit, but last I read, federated instances are limited in number of accounts.
More generally, the idea that taking crypto bro money will allow them to stay as open as Mastodon sounds unlikely to me.
- Comment on What's Mastodon precious? 1 month ago:
My Mastodon experience is far more pleasant than that of Lemmy.
My sense is Mastodon is far less left leaning (but still left of center) but it may just be a product of who I’m following and the tags I’m following.
- Comment on what do you use for screen sharing? 2 months ago:
Okay 2 things.
- I haven’t heard about any security issues with Rustdesk. Can you link to what you’re referring to?
- It’s strange to see someone concerned about security recommend RDP for remote access when it’s a terrible idea to expose it to the internet. But maybe you mean to expose a VPN and then connect to RDP via that?
- Comment on what do you use for screen sharing? 2 months ago:
No rustdesk but recommend RDP for remoting?
I’m confused on both recommendations.

Everything you suggest seems self evident because you supply the evidence yourself.
It should be obvious to anyone who knows the first thing about how cell phones work.
Remember, you replied to me. You seemed quite proud of your comment and all your links. Unfortunately you completely missed the point.
- Comment on Healthiest way to charge Lithium Ion 2 months ago:
Plenty of good answers here already. Just want to add a funny anecdote.
I’ve had the same USB charging brick for years, using it for different phones throughout that time. When I check the battery settings when it’s plugged in it “warns” me that I could be charging at a higher rate if I plug into a higher amperage charger. Yeah… I know. I WANT to charge slowly. It’s gonna be plugged in all night, what do I care?
I’ve had my phone for a year, 165 charging cycles, and it says it’s still at 100% health. I do cap charging to 80% and that hasn’t been an issue for my day-to-day usage.

Strange. You wanna be done so suddenly after being shown how obvious the solution is.
we can talk about how batteries aren’t removable in most phones anymore
So don’t buy those. Buy one with a removable battery….
whether or not the act of suddenly buying prepaid phones isn’t itself incriminating
Go use cash, in person.
Again, use your imagination. I refuse to believe I’m smarter than you or anyone else. These seem like obvious solutions.
My incredulity that the person further up the thread couldn’t think of a simple solution to the issue they posed came across as rude. I’m not sorry about it. Think for a minute….
I think everyone in the thread ultimately wants women to be able to get abortions without fear of prosecution.

Not bringing a phone definitely is an option.
But I suggested a burner with forwarding so that handles comms to partner.
If you can’t function without your main device for special circumstances such as this, I guess you just can’t be helped.
- Comment on Inside the U.S. Government-Bought Tool That Can Track Phones at Abortion Clinics 2 months ago:
Hm. I said without power. Not switched off.
I suggested no power but not for the entire trip. Put the battery back in when you’re sufficiently far from your house so as not to be associated with it.
Use your imagination. It helps.

- Comment on Inside the U.S. Government-Bought Tool That Can Track Phones at Abortion Clinics 2 months ago:
Don’t bring your phone.
Get a burner and set up call forwarding.

And you understand that reasonable force varies by state, right? I’ve said it multiple times.
I will use the maximum allowed for the state I reside in. I have lived in states which allowed for deadly force to protect property.

I don’t care. Like I said, in some states you can employ deadly force to keep someone from making off with your shit. I do not value those people more than my property. Straight up. I’m not deflecting or side stepping or mincing words. They’re trash and I do not morn them should they be shot and killed during the course of taking things that aren’t theirs.

There is a solution, it’s called insurance. I know that you wouldn’t get your family heirlooms back
Then it isn’t exactly a solution, is it? The jewelry probably only would appraise for <$1000 (probably far less). It’s not about the monetary cost.
but neither would you being armed but not home.
Yeah…? I don’t get this line of argument. This just in - guns only effective when there’s a human there to operate it. No shit…
You’re simultaneously arguing that guns are overkill to solve theft and that guns don’t solve theft.
I fear that you could end up shooting a porch pirate in the back while claiming self defense.
The state I live in currently wouldn’t allow for me to use deadly force to protect property. But states I’ve lived in in the past sure would. As of now, I would have to be in fear of great bodily harm or death in order to employ deadly force and that’s the standard I will follow. Just keep in mind that many robberies involve a deadly weapon on the perpetrators side which is an immediate green light on my end.
- Comment on Men Harassed A Woman In A Driverless Waymo, Trapping Her In Traffic 3 months ago:
Instead of arming civilians for vigilantism pressure should be put on the government to deal with the root causes of criminal behaviour.
Sure, I advocate for that too. Until then…
As far as I was aware the legal punishment for theft wasn’t…
There’s one weird trick to not being shot for stealing shit.
