Yeah, I got a bit too into my own head. I do agree with that.
- Comment on World Without Corporations 1 day ago:
That is not a feature of proprietary software. That is a feature of an organisation. It only makes sense to make software for a profit in an organisation, so that’s why there’s so many of those. FOSS also has a lot of organisations, which are also pretty often used btw, but they are not required.
Not having to rely on an approval by any entity is a big thing for people fucking around with stuff. And fucking around with stuff makes one good at that stuff.

- Comment on Sweden, Norway rethink plans for cashless societies over fears that fully digital payment systems would leave them vulnerable to Russian security threats 2 weeks ago:
I think the idea was that you can’t hoard anything, and stealing or reusing is harder. But it does make the central management way more powerful than it should be. But it’s normal bank standard.
What do you mean with “dystopian statist money”?
- Comment on Sweden, Norway rethink plans for cashless societies over fears that fully digital payment systems would leave them vulnerable to Russian security threats 2 weeks ago:
Yeah, I think so too. It should replace bank transactions completely.

The netherlands are already looking into it: www.ngi.eu/ngi-projects/ngi-taler/
The project could be used via paper trail, as far as I understand it.

Better than most, privacy wise. Better than me, especially the pine phone (again, privacy wise). But still not solely your phone. The pine phone might be. You are on the right way though!

Off topic, but it’s very funny to me that you think you have full access to your phone.

Sucks for them, but this is the wrong way. Except if I can work my own exclusive system, or a system from another service provider into this. Previous to the stealing, of course. And without anyone needing to “allow” me

How do you involve the users in there? My gripe is with the OS. And the special treatment it gets from the hardware’s driver developers.

More drivers = more good
, but I really would like the karmic justice of telling windows users to write their own kernels if they want them. Let them cook for a few years.

- Comment on Tech Giants Withholding Products Because EU Regulation like GDPR 3 months ago:
You write shitty code and it breaks something? You should be punished accordingly.
You load libraries without checking each and every one and now something’s broken? You should be punished accordingly.
You load proprietary code and now something’s broken? You better checked the whole contract so you can punish the creators after you’ve been punished.
Software developers often have way more reach (over distance and over time) than they realize. They should be held accountable more like doctors or engineers.
- Comment on Tech Giants Withholding Products Because EU Regulation like GDPR 3 months ago:
Nice! Thank you EU for the GDPR!
For the next step, please let the companies that produce software be held accountable for damages. For Nonprofits change the target to associated companies. Also punish the people responsible, like the developers, for their software and choice of used libraries. If the library was insufficiently supported by the developer, then the developer has no ground to sue for damages themselves.

I don’t want to point fingers/cast shade or anything. Hell, I myself resist change where I can.
It costs incredible amounts of energy and time to change, and that change might even be counter productive to some or most of the things you do.
Gratulations on starting Linux, I hope it does everything you need it to do. Even if you should end up using it only for a short amount of time, I hope the experience enriches you.
- Comment on My Windows Computer Just Doesn't Feel Like Mine Anymore 4 months ago:
Most people believe they will start seeing problems where there were none before. They need to invest time into research about their use-cases, which is a cost even before switching.
The typical user used Windows since before they became scared of change, so that’s what they’ll stick with.
The pain of using Windows still can and will be higher without the majority of people switching to anything.
- Comment on The fine art of negotiation 4 months ago:
You can only compare that if the $100/hr are certain. Having no clients means having $0/hr.
Also to compare the two she has to have an 8hr day. I don’t have many experiences in the field, but that sounds not sustainable.
- Comment on The fine art of negotiation 4 months ago:
Well, she’s advertised as a pretty woman, not a smart one.
And now, with a little less jest: It’s a stable income over a week, with a guy she evidently likes to at least look at. No need for advertising in that time. Meals are paid, as is time off. Also, the 21$ assume that she is paid 24 hours a day (3000$ ÷ 24 ÷ 6 = 20,83333…$) so she gets paid for sleeping, eating, essentially her own time. She also gets the opportunity to scout new, well off clients.
I would take that deal.
