- Comment on Is Lemmy growing or shrinking? 6 months ago:
I’m subbed to r/horrorlit and keep wondering if I’m taking crazy pills because it feels like 30% of the posts are some variation of “What’s the scariest/best horror book you’ve read?” They reword it or give it a slightly different spin but it’s essentially the same question over and over. And then of course the responses are always the same 40 books being mentioned repeatedly. I don’t understand why anyone who’s been on the sub for more than a month would keep upvoting the same question.
- Comment on Microsoft starts testing ads in the Windows 11 Start menu 7 months ago:
I made the transition to Linux Mint at the beginning of the year. I just booted into Windows the other day and saw that it had been six weeks since the last time.
- Comment on Apple fans are starting to return their Vision Pros 8 months ago:
I’ve tried Quest 2 once at a friend’s house. I thought it was pretty neat but nothing about the experience made me want to run out and buy one or even plan to buy one in the future. I believe that unless good VR headsets come down in price significantly (sub $100) they’re never going to be more than a niche hobby.

For POS they’d be much more likely to get a tip from me if the options were $0.50, $1.00, or $1.50.
- Comment on “Wherever you get your podcasts” is a radical statement - Anil Dash 9 months ago:
If you like feature rich apps then I recommend Podcast Addict.

I’ve been on Linux Mint for a few months now, and haven’t booted into Windows in like three weeks.
The transition has been relatively painless.
- Comment on The man who owes Nintendo $14m: Gary Bowser and gaming’s most infamous piracy case 9 months ago:
If I was stupidly rich I’d pay the entire fine to nullify the punishment to Gary. It isn’t about the money to Nintendo; it’s about making an example of him.
- Comment on Commercials Are Streaming’s New Norm, and Creators Aren’t Happy: “It’s Almost Worse Than Broadcast” 9 months ago:
That’s some bullshit. I hate that they can do that. They spin it as a convenience but I’d rather update all my accounts with the new card manually.
- Comment on Wi-Fi 7 quietly took off while everyone was looking at AI 10 months ago:
I can get very close to 1 Gbit on Ethernet but top out at maybe 400 Mbps on wifi.

You don’t find the ads in Windows 11 valuable?
- Comment on 2023 was the year that GPUs stood still 10 months ago:
I just upgraded from a 1070 to a 3060ti. The numbers definitely did not justify a 4060ti.

I think some of their songs are Beatle-esque - e.g. “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”

- Comment on Google announces April 2024 shutdown date for Google Podcasts 11 months ago:
It does what you need it to do because it does everything. Podcast Addict is one of the most feature rich apps.
- Comment on Nearly Half of CD Projekt Now Working on The Witcher 4 11 months ago:
For me it was too long. I finished it with all the DLC for the first time a few days ago. I generally enjoyed it but was also quite happy to be done with it when I finally finished it at around the 110 hour mark. I actually took a break after Hearts of Stone and played a couple of shorter games before I came back to finish off Blood and Wine.
I haven’t yet played a single player game that I thought needed to be more than 60 hours no matter how engaging or well made it was.
- Comment on Early PS5 Black Friday Deals Have Officially Started - IGN 1 year ago:
Yeah, the ones I still play are PS4 games - Overcooked and Lovers in A Dangerous Space Time.
- Comment on Do you feel, as I do, that this adblocker ban by Youtube will harm all of Alphabet's companies? [discussion] 1 year ago:
Yes, and interestingly the earliest cable TV in the US was built to relay broadcast channels to valleys where the signal wouldn’t otherwise reach.
- Comment on Do you feel, as I do, that this adblocker ban by Youtube will harm all of Alphabet's companies? [discussion] 1 year ago:
We’ve tasted ad-less video entertainment and found it good. That said, for at least half a century OTA network TV required watching ads and most people didn’t care much because they didn’t have to pay cash for the service. I think many/most people have the capacity to tolerate ads to get what they want.
- Comment on Report: Bungie CEO blames layoffs on waning interest in Destiny 2 1 year ago:
Very few people want to play a single game forever. But a lot of people are willing to hop from Gaas game to Gass game.
- Comment on Google Fiber is getting outrageously fast 20Gbps service 1 year ago:
20 gbps is going to require most people to spend significant cash for new networking hardware. These days most consumer hardware tops out at 2.5 gbps.
- Comment on Sony Defends PS Plus Price Rises - IGN 1 year ago:
I’ve been in Plus for quite a few years now. I used to be able to get it for $40 around Black Friday. That was an acceptable price. If I can get it for $60 this year I may re-up. There’s no way in heck I’m paying $80.
- Comment on Google Fiber goes big with 20-gig plan 1 year ago:
My provider recently started offering a 2gbps plan for $30 more a month. I was tempted until I thought about the money I’d need to spend on new equipment to take advantage of it. 1gbps fiber is plenty for now.

I know it’s gross but is there a real health risk to inhaling fecal particles?
- Comment on Lemmy users when I mention I pay for Youtube Premium 1 year ago:
Yes. I pay for YouTube Music for my six account family and, as a side benefit, we all get ad-free YouTube.
- Comment on The Problem with Jon Stewart cancellation highlights a problem for Apple’s content 1 year ago:
Yep, and the article says that:
“The show’s cancellation is indicative of the kinds of challenges owners of platforms (like Apple, Amazon, Google, and others) face when they are producing content, too.”
- Comment on Why do many folks play follow the leader even into adulthood? 1 year ago:
You don’t have to “elevate” a person in order for them to be a leader. You just have to recognize that they have a certain organizational skill set that not everyone has. That skill set helps things get done. It’s just a job and they’re just people.
- Comment on Weezer straight up writing ads for audible.com 1 year ago:
Yeah, it’s not like they’re poor and need the money. Rivers is an odd guy. It wouldn’t surprise me if he considered it some sort of art piece.
- Comment on Best Buy to end DVD & Blu-ray disc sales 1 year ago:
The 17 year old technology of blu ray is apparently too new fangled for my library. Almost all of their collection, including new acquisitions, is the 27 year old format of DVD.
- Comment on Best Buy to end DVD & Blu-ray disc sales 1 year ago:
I’d rather watch an HD blu ray than one of these crappy 4K streams provided by Netflix.
