Oh i can definitely see custom browsers being useful in that area. I remember the JavaScript navigator properties were always such a PITA as there was nothing you could really do to get around what they exposed

Same tbh

During my first job as a dev outta school, they had me writing scrapers. I was actually able to subvert it pretty easily using this package that doesn’t appear to be maintained anymore github.com/VeNoMouS/cloudscraper
Was pretty surprised to learn that, at the time, they were only checking if JS was enabled, especially since CF is the gold standard for this sort of stuff. I’m sure this has changed?
- Comment on Cloudflare blocking Pale Moon and other browsers with smaller user bases 4 days ago:
Small companies use CF as well. It really is one of the best ways to prevent all sorts of bad actors

Hmm that aquarium chiller solution is interesting to me. I’d like to wire it up to home assistant, so I could automate it. Wonder if there are any that I could control with an IR blaster?
Would miss out on some of the fun data you get from the complete solution though.
I also saw there was some firmware available for the complete solution, for local control. But unsure if I can realistically justify that large of a purchase while relying on a project that may lose support.
I’m aware of the bed jet, but it doesn’t seem as useful as it just pushes air, so if your room is already hot you are out of luck.

I used to get a lot of merge conflicts working with obsidian and syncthing, as I’d edit on my phone and my computer(s).
Honestly started considering just spinning up a git repo, but knowing me I’d forget to commit lol

- Comment on Google's reCAPTCHA is not only useless, it's also basically spyware 3 weeks ago:
Even if recaptcha is solvable by bots, what you’re effectively doing is making it more expensive to run these bots at scale, which is a deterrent and necessary.
Now there’s definitely ways to do it without tracking user data, but I doubt they’ll give up that control without being forced
- Comment on Tired of spotty internet, Bolivians are smuggling in Starlink. 3 weeks ago:
Only time I’ve ever used starlink was as a fallback while I was working remote out of Mexico for a few months and it was ridiculously slow compared to telmex. Was nice having it as a backup though incase the telmex went down. My travel router failed over before zoom calls would disconnect 🤠

- Comment on Time to get serious with E2E encrypted messaging 4 weeks ago:
Nah I rolled my own and didn’t publish it so that’s probably why haha.
Have you been using this one?
On my app I don’t get rich notifications only “you may have a new message”. Havent looked into it at all though, only set this up like last week
- Comment on Time to get serious with E2E encrypted messaging 4 weeks ago:
Huh I didn’t know this existed. Will compare it to mine later
- Comment on Time to get serious with E2E encrypted messaging 4 weeks ago:
I got an initial verification code and haven’t heard from signal since. Signal doesn’t support totp or SMS 2fa. But has a pin code set along with your password. A new device that is added doesn’t have access to old messages unless you have the correct seed key iirc
- Comment on Time to get serious with E2E encrypted messaging 4 weeks ago:
Sure but it allows VOIP numbers. I’m using a jmp.chat number with it just fine.
- Comment on Time to get serious with E2E encrypted messaging 4 weeks ago:
Yep, I run my own mollysocket + ntfy server.
Essentially, molly socket functions as another device, when it recieves a notif, it pings your specified unified push server, which then queues up a notification for the ntfy app on your device.
You don’t need to run your own unified push server, and can just use one of the main ones, but I figured I might as well.
I personally have them hosted on fly.io for free via the legacy hobby plan.
Now all I need to do is get more of my friends to message me on it 🤣
- Comment on How to Find Old Accounts for Deletion 5 weeks ago:
Does deleting old accounts really do much? Once you do something online, you should assume it’s there even if you delete it.
Best you can do is adopt a more privacy conscious way to go about things and just let your old footprint go stale

Mine would be as well, but tbh I don’t love the kodi UI. At least I didn’t a few years ago when I tried it.
Maybe Nvidia will drop a new shield with DP support, but not going to hold my breath on that

- Comment on Leaked Documents Show What Phones Secretive Tech ‘Graykey’ Can Unlock 3 months ago:
Has there been any information about how long physical access is needed for these attack methods to extract data?
I’ve got mine set at 8 hours, in graphene’s mastodon thread, they say 10 minutes is best for highest levels of security. The short time frame given in that thread makes me wonder if these exploits give instant access to data.
