- Comment on Elon Musk Fans Are Losing So Much Money to Crypto Scams 3 weeks ago:
There previously were scams that invoked Bill Gates’ name, but I guess crypto made it much easier, especially since anyone can watch Musk gush on about crypto on YouTube, thus validating the ideas for the gullible.
- Comment on Reddit is making sitewide protests basically impossible 1 month ago:
The internet always moves on; the most popular bulletin boards and usenet groups and web forums eventually fell and people moved away. Even Digg had a powerful following and heavy user traffic and due to Reddit style changes everyone left too. Reddit just as likely.
- Comment on Student dorm does not allow wifi routers 2 months ago:
This isn’t rare and not altogether a bad idea.
My university had a problem of students bringing their own WiFi routers before the dorms had WiFi. Students would set them up incorrectly and cause a series of problems with colliding DHCP servers and interference and it would cause outages for nearby wired students.
A lot of IT departments locked the network down for these reasons.

This just feels so counter to Trek ideals.
- Comment on Traveling this summer? Maybe don’t let the airport scan your face. 3 months ago:
Is that what I said? No. Of course it can be and is tracked. But I’m not going to Hand over my biometrics and make it easier for them.
- Comment on Traveling this summer? Maybe don’t let the airport scan your face. 3 months ago:
That’s a strawman, who said otherwise? Showing ID is one thing, storing your ID and tracking your trips is another.
- Comment on Traveling this summer? Maybe don’t let the airport scan your face. 3 months ago:
It’s discussed in the article. We can’t really be sure if they do, but they already store the measurements of your face along with other bits of metadata. They could reconstruct your face with it even without the photo. It’s a deceptive claim, because even if they throw away the camera video they still have your face for all intents and purposes.
- Comment on Microsoft is reportedly banning Palestinians in the U.S. for life for calling relatives in Gaza 4 months ago:
Why would I give Microsoft money if they’re behaving like this?
- Comment on Everything old is new again. 4 months ago:
That’s Uber propaganda. The system was created because prior to that cities had traffic jams with a ton of freelance cabs with no quality controls or regulation. The medallion system set a price floor and mandated inspections and insurance and background checks. Uber bypassed all of that for years and surprise; women were being assaulted by drivers with criminal history, passengers were injured from uninspected vehicles and couldn’t get remedied because the drivers were uninsured, and cities have worsening traffic jams because there was no limit on Uber drivers choking downtown streets.
The taxi industry evolved this way for good reasons. Uber was initially sold as good for immigrants and now immigrants protest how that company gets special treatment over every other cab company and hurts their bottom line.

We also have to stop calling it hallucinations. The proper term in psychology for making stuff up like this is “Confabulations.”

China does the same.
- Comment on ByteDance won't sell TikTok, would rather pull it from the US 6 months ago:
First, negotiations are not yet over, so they’re hoping courts overturn the ban.
Second, TikTok is very popular outside the US too, though 40% of ad revenue is in the US. They’d survive.
- Comment on Google fires 28 employees after protest over Israel cloud contract 6 months ago:
We all know that’s inconsistent. If employees wanted to take time off to grieve for the LGBT deaths at the Pulse nightclub shooting, the company would have supported them. Would they have done the same for people grieving over dead Palestinian children, or fire them for not meeting their work requirements or ‘disrupting business’? Would Google fire employees who staged a sit-in over anti-Semitism in the workplace?
Google broke their corporate ethics by allying with a military for a lucrative contract; employees SHOULD be calling them out on it.
- Comment on Google fires 28 employees after protest over Israel cloud contract 6 months ago:
Google PRIDES itself on progressivism and diversity. From transgender visibility to veganism. Google showered Ukrainian and Israeli employees with support and gave them a platform, but Palestinian supporters were left out. Say Ukrainians are dying and google will support you and even donate for you. Protest Google’s military contract that kills Palestinian civilians and violates the company ethics policies and you get fired?
This will blemish google’s reputation for a long time to come. IBM is still in the history books as helping the Nazis.

You’re not the target for either; they’re meant to milk business customers who don’t care about price.
- Comment on Embrace, Extend, and Exploit: Meta's plan for ActivityPub, Mastodon and the fediverse 11 months ago:
Their goal is to be profitable. Whether that means embracing standards for good PR or fighting standards if it benefits them, it doesn’t matter. Money matters.

As opposed to Threads stealing all brands companies and users anyway?
There’s still advantages to a fediverse and ways to defend against “embrace extend extinguish” if you plan ahead.

I’ve been to Israel multiple times. Israeli Arabs are not allowed at the western wall and are turned away by security. I can introduce you to some of you don’t believe me.
And the Temple Mount is under the control of the Jordanian government by Israeli treaty and the Israeli military isn’t letting people in, even most rabbis have said the Mount is off limits to Jews. Not that that’s stopped extemeists from going there. The Israeli military also often bans Muslims under age 60 from visiting so you’re not special.
- Comment on Google Removes App That Helps People Boycott Pro-Israel Companies 11 months ago:
That’s nice excuse making. There’s YouTube videos of Israeli bus drivers refusing to take Palestinian passengers.
HOAs in America are private contracts but the Knesset passed The Admissions Committees Law (2011) which allows hundreds of small towns built on state land to select applicants based on their “social suitability”. The law is used in practice to filter out Israeli Arabs and members of other marginalized groups. The fact that the government does this is much much worse than an HOA.
- Comment on Google Removes App That Helps People Boycott Pro-Israel Companies 11 months ago:
It means that Palestinians living in West Bank and Gaza should be free from Israeli oppression and Palestinians living in Israel should be free from apartheid. It doesn’t mean kicking people out.

As you’re undoubtedly aware, DSM-V is a decade old and the next revision is set to include improved criteria on dependencies (including non-drug ones) and obsessive-compulsive spectrum (which this could likely fall under), as well as adding other “new” conditions like hoarding.
