Watching the dick van dyke show on b&w tv and begging mom to tell me why my dad was on the show (dvdyke doppelgänger) and they why were keeping it a secret from me - Dad was a road salesman and never home when the show was on…

The biggest rush of nostalgia I’ve ever gotten was from booting up Ratchet & Clank 2 after several years. Just hearing the intro music teleported me in an instant to my childhood.

Playing Joust and Rampage with my sister

Rampage was a great two player game! Another favorite of ours was Bubble Bobble!

Seeing weird anime and other TV during late nights in my teens. Also discovering video games I hadn’t known about. There was mystery back then, and now everything feels discovered.

Sitting on the floor and building whatever I wanted with the, maybe 800, Lego bricks I had.

I’m by no means saying Lego are bad today, but I loved inventing my own stuff, not assembling someone else’s design. Yeah my stuff was nowhere near as accurate or realistic….but wasn’t that the point?

I once built a fairly realistic interplanetary spaceship out of duplos.
It might’ve required some squinting, and some imagination to have seen it before the 3yo niece came careening off living room furniture to knock it over… but I’m still vaguely proud of it.

Yeah. Sales.
Though…. When my nephew started figuring that out he brought his burgeoning Lego set over to play during a sleepover.
“Can I play with you?” “Nope! These are my legos!” “Okay.” … “please? Id really like to play legos with you.” “NOOO!!!” “Okay,”
Should have seen the pained look on his face when I went out and brought in my Legos. The thing here is, I never stopped playing with legos. ~2.5 decades of growth took three stacks of trays (immaculately sorted, of course,) riding on furniture dolleys.
(The carts are a bit more than waist high. The top two trays swing out on corner bearings and then two more trays are drawers. Each tray is 2 inches deep with compartments made by using 2in balsa boards dipped in resin to make adjustable/customizable bins. They’re not quite as space effecient but the easy sorting more than makes up for it, besides they’re easily tucked away.)
