Good luck charm? I would just get a fancy key fob.
Which is why I NEED this wrapped, I’m just paying homage to a time honored tradition, see?

The mermaid takes a craftsman.
KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago tbf the anime girl probably took a skilled artist (assuming it’s not ai generated)
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
Usually the artist is paid for a drawing then it’s copied a million times.
If they’re hand drawing the wrap then that’s cool.
Sabata11792@ani.social 3 weeks ago Best I can afford is a bumper sticker on a grandma car :/

Unless the guys wrapping their car with anime girls are doing so to provide protection from storms at sea and guide them safely to their destination, they aren’t serving the same function.
lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 2 weeks ago
I mean, they didn’t really do that though… In actuality they were (hot) mascots, which now that I say that…
Unboxious@ani.social 3 weeks ago
If I’m being honest I think you’re mistaking the excuse for the function.
“Oh yes totally. Only a topless woman will do for this. Safety first.”

So it wasn’t there to give sailors some ammunition for their spank bank, to rub one out while they were at sea for 21 weeks?
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
That’s what cabin boys and sealife were for.

I assumed it was so when your rowboat out for some private time you have something to look at while fapping.
SnoringEarthworm@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago Bet you haven’t seen any anime cars at the bottom of the sea.

what happened to that pt cruiser? did a whale fall on it?!
Seleni@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Seems like they were being chased by the driver’s ex-girlfriend. The woman in the car was calling a friend because she was scared about it, then….

Wrapping your car in anime girls is called “Itasha” which is one of my favorite words in the Japanese language.
It’s comprised of the words for “It hurts” and “car”. The closest English translation would be “cringemobile”

Its only June 1st, but this is the best thing I’m going to learn all month. Me and quite a few friends love fast cars and local car meets/shows, and there is a sizable group of people who show up with anime cars. I shall share this sacred knowledge with them.
LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I figured it was the Japanese word for high school sophomore lol.

It can also mean Italian car :D
lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 2 weeks ago
痛車 (hurt+car) is a car with an anime paintjob or wrap. イタ車 (“ita”+car) could refer to an Italian car but IDK if that’s a thing.
Context matters and kanji are such a powerful tool to add context!
That is a fun fact

There’s also the itabag. Same concept, but for bags. Fans of anything (usually anime, idols) will decorate their bags with whatever trinkets to show support to literal pain because you’ll be carrying the weight of your fandom.
